FFS, give it a rest.
February 16, 2009 at 07:30 #210489It is interesting to see Notre Pere shortened in the market for the Gold Cup by bookmakers, yet pushed out on Betfair.
Yet has been backed for the Grand National on Betfair to be the same price as the bookmakers.
Has anyone heard of a change of plan?

When the trainer said after the Welsh National that he’d prefer to miss the GN this year, I didn’t give that as much weight as other people did because at the same time he said that his son does most of the training nowadays. If his son is doing the training, wouldn’t he have a say in where the horse should run?
February 16, 2009 at 15:11 #210502Notre Pere a possible Gold Cup winner ?
I don’t think so !
More a Welsh National type. Lacks the speed to win a Gold Cup in my opinion.
Neptune Collonges ran a fine race, but my one slight resevation is that he doesn’t seem to find an enormous amount on the run in – especially when out in front.

February 16, 2009 at 17:10 #210521I wouldn’t say it was impossible the runner-up could reverse placings in a true-run Gold Cup on softish ground- he doesn’t have the speed of the winner but sloggers like him have won Gold Cups before: I’d say they have every right to take their chance as long as the ground suits. I’d say the only chance of him running in the National would be if he missed Cheltenham because of quick ground.
February 16, 2009 at 17:22 #210522So losing to Kauto Star by what? A short head last year. Seven lengths behind a horse who is under a thunder cloud at the moment. Long way ahead of the others. That means he has no hope of winning this year does it?
I backed Neptunes for the Gold cup soon after last years race and at the moment deserves to be second favourite. Am a little worried a hard race on very soft ground will not do his Gold Cup chances any good.
On Notre Pere for the National, am hoping for a good run without encouraging them to keep him to Grade 1’s. Ideal type for the National.

That means what you want it to mean mate and if you want to go by his proximity to Kauto Star and a form book word for word, ignoring all other important factors of the race, that is your prerogative. I’m sure Ruby Walsh can’t wait to get of Kauto Star and ride Neptune Collonges

Did not say Neptunes Collonges has a better chance than Kauto Star Aristo. If I were Ruby, I’d want to ride Kauto Star. Just that Neptunes has the second best chance of winning it. Considering Denman looks only half the horse he was. And as Kauto Star has never yet run to his best at Cheltenham, I’d rather back Neptunes at a much bigger price. To say he has no chance is foolish.

Value Is EverythingFebruary 16, 2009 at 21:47 #210579Ginge,
You think Neptunes has the 2nd best chance of winning the Gold cup!
i think he has No chance, just my opinion, but to be absolutely critical i think Exotic, Kauto, Denman and Albertas all have better chances of winning the Gold cup run over 31/4m of Cheltenhams unique course!February 16, 2009 at 22:49 #210594That is what makes this game so great, opinions.

Nothing wrong with having an opinion, even a foolish one (foolish, of course, in my opinion).

We shall see.

Carv,
Rough Quest won the Grand National after being placed in the Gold Cup. If memory serves, didn’t Miinihoma win it after running in the GC? West Tip was placed, The Thinker? Don’t see why he can’t run in both. If he’s in the first 4 or 5 that would make Notre Pere look well handicapped. Judging by the run yesterday he put up a better performance than when winning the Welsh National. An increased test of stamina could see him improve quite a bit more. Has the size to carry big weights. Only having a hard race on very soft ground at Cheltenham would put me off.
