Eurotrek’s BHB mark was raised to 158 after the Becher so providing Hedgehunter runs Eurotrek is unlikely to be alloted top-weight. That said he’ll do well to get into the race with less than 11st 7lb on the day.
February 2, 2007 at 13:45 #27830An interesting entry is François Cottin’s Louping d’Ainay. This giant grey won the French equivalent (prix du Président de la République) back in 2005 and finished second behind stablemate Princesse d’Anjou in the Gr 1 Haye Jousselin last November. The trainer has been thinking of the National for him for some time. Will be interesting tosee how he gets on in the Racing Post Chase later in the month.

Ok, you’ve twisted my arm (although it didn’t take a lot of twisting).
Bit of a slow news day at work so I’ve had a bash at framing the weights, taking into account of the likely compression of the top weights.
Criticism, constructive or otherwise, warmly welcomed (apart from criticism of the dodgy formatting)

February 2, 2007 at 13:55 #27832All you need now is some prices Happy Jack! The Outlier looks to be fairly weighted there, unlike Take The Stand who has run like a dog all season.
How many of your top weights will run? I know Hedgehunter is likely to run so will keep the weights up.
February 2, 2007 at 16:52 #27833I see Kelami is entered and is running tomarrow at Sandown anybody rate this fella??
February 2, 2007 at 16:56 #27834Eurotrek will carry a bit of weight for sure. yes…could be top weight…but there is bags of potential here still (very lightly raced for his age)
The high weight doesnt put me off. Sure there will be stats for this and that, but the national is a race just as easily (and more so these days i think) won by quality animals carrying a bit rather than some 10st burdened plodder. Esp if ground is good too
and Eurotrek couldnt be in better hands

Yes, Nicholls’ Grand National record is second to none!
February 2, 2007 at 17:50 #27836I think DJ what he means is that the trainer won’t be getting him to run badly in his next 3 races so it can romp in in the god knows what next year, and that Nicholls is prepared to just run it the once.
February 2, 2007 at 18:09 #27837Is there any 7-4 an Irish-trained winner on offer this year? ;)
February 2, 2007 at 19:32 #27838<br>There’s always a story – and in 2007 it’ll be all about McCoy and JP putting the disappointments with Clan Royal behind them as Far From Trouble wins easily.
Should have won the four miler at Cheltenham, cantering when he fell six out in the Irish National, then winner of the Galway Plate. Unraced since August to preserve his handicap mark, it’s becoming a familiar pattern.

February 2, 2007 at 19:42 #27839I’ve had a tiny tickle on the Egerton beasts at massive odds. Both are entered in the Racing Post Chase and both are likely get into the National with less that 11 stone. I wouldn’t be at all confident of either turning up but Edgy has been sparing in his declarations all season and I’d at least be reasonably confident that both still have the requisite number of legs. Which is a plus.
February 2, 2007 at 20:05 #27840Gallant Approach is the one I’d be interested in of the pair……
February 2, 2007 at 21:02 #27841Yes dear. But you conned a drunk man into giving you that information. He was really only after his mammy I’m sure.
February 2, 2007 at 21:10 #27842We don’t necessarily know he was drunk…..

Sorry I just picked up that you wanted an update on Preacher Boy.
After his bad mistake at the 2nd last and losing his shoe it was feared that he had quite a bad injury with a hairline fracture being suspected.
In fact it appears that it was a very severe overreach and the horse is now back, lameness at the walk has gone and he is back on the horsewalker.
Some think the enforced rest may do him some good – others the contrary! but he should be fit enough if he runs.
February 6, 2007 at 05:48 #27844I still fancy Hedgehunter, along with Clan Royal, Garvivonnian and Liberthine

I’d love to see the Outlier or Zabenz winning but that’s just my heart talking.
February 7, 2007 at 14:58 #27845An eyecatching National trial from far From Trouble over hurdles at Down Royal, winning a 20f minor event on the bridle. Looks likely to run off something like 140ish in the National judging by his weight for the Racing Post Chase.
