The anti-racing mob did not even approve of the Virtual Grand National in 2020 because it promoted gambling.
April 17, 2023 at 16:34 #1644265Much of the uncomfortable watching in the first half a mile was due to at least half the field trying to go on the inside. The outside half of each fence may as well have not been there as nobody used it.
So, when horses bumped into each other (eg Big Breakaway and Darasso at fence two) then they ran out of space between other horses leaping together.
The field was wider apart jumping Foinavon than it was at the first six!
Maybe there needs to be run-off areas alongside the inside of the track too, to enable loose horses to exit the track that side? IDK, just suggesting it as a thought.
If I had a horse entered in this next season I’d absolutely ask my jockey to go down the empty outside down to Becher’s to avoid any early crowding.
April 17, 2023 at 16:55 #1644266Off topic, but Why no virtual Grand National this year?
April 17, 2023 at 17:07 #1644267I wondered that too Chestnut; it seemed to have become a regular part of the build up.
I know it was not popular with some, but I enjoyed it. And I would make a very similar comment about Toyah!
April 17, 2023 at 17:16 #1644269Delighted to see there was no cartoon racing..👏😛

April 17, 2023 at 17:19 #1644270I see the antis are out trying to impose their will on everyone else again
April 17, 2023 at 17:28 #1644273If they bring back the virtual National next year, they should probably include a virtual protest too for authenticity.
Perhaps they could do simulations of where the protestors climb over the fence, and what they glue themselves to, in order to help manage the real event.

The only will I’d impose is losing the will to live watching the cartoon race..

April 17, 2023 at 19:30 #1644295There’s an article on the Daily Mail website about the same protesters now targeting the Derby.
April 17, 2023 at 19:39 #1644299If it happens I hope they don’t give them any air time.
just put a caption up saying there has been a delay due to foreseen circumstances

April 17, 2023 at 19:41 #1644300I expect Royal Ascot will be a target as well, especially as it is the first of Charles III’s reign.

The protestors made the point before Saturday’s GN they’ll be targeting horse racing this Summer, and not just the big meets. They could turn up anywhere, and bar the big meets, security will be minimal, so it’ll be easy for them to target the small meetings and be relatively ‘successful’.
April 17, 2023 at 20:03 #1644304This is really getting out of hand now.
Everyone has the right to peacefully protest. But they do not have the right to disrupt events to make their half baked political points.
These are arrogant people who seem to believe they know best and have the right to impose their views on everyone else. They clearly do not believe in democracy, partly because they are authoritarians at heart but also because their arguments are feeble, do not convince many people and have no chance of being successful at the ballot box.
April 17, 2023 at 20:11 #1644306This is where the fun starts for them:
They’ll target any sport they can.
April 17, 2023 at 20:23 #1644308Just Stop Oil has justified targeting the snooker because “oil and gas will snooker us”.

They go on: “We are demanding that the Government immediately stop all new UK fossil fuel projects.”
Since when did a minority, unrepresentative group have the right to demand anything?
