Happy with the 66’s Appreciate It, and 100’s Duffle Coat, but I’ll wait till NRNB kicks in, which seems sensible right now

I must be going mad but I quite fancy… Mister Coffey. O from 15 over fences and his trainer has never won the race. However, he ran well from the front in 2023, going for home too early and fading from 2 out. He’s been consistent this season and if ridden a bit more patiently, he has a chance of making the frame. He’s best priced 80/1 with Unibet which is a bit of a concern but worth chancing.

I think that if you forgive him his last run, then a real case could be made for Broadway Boy. I’ve taken 66-1 ew 5 places

A good effort by Surrey Quest in the Edinburgh National, raced prominently and held a chance to two out, but can’t imagine he will go up from 139 as he was eventually well held by a convincing winner. King Turgeon was never going and pulled up. It’s possible these two will get in off their present marks but it would be touch and go.

Vanillier just battered the ‘field’ in the Cross Country at Punchestown.
    Any 66s, etc gone.
Now trading from 40s to 25s.
Anyone fancy him for the GN?

He’s on my long list. Needed to win it to have a chance of getting in, but let’s see what the handicapper does to him after that. Irish handicapper might only give him 4 or 5 pounds, but the British handicapper has put horses up 10/12lbs for similar performances.

    I backed Inothewayurthinkin @ 33/1
    He’s now 14/1 co favourite.
    Yippee!… Well, it would be…

Trouble is, when the trainer all but ruled out running, saying they had to “do what’s best for the horse”… I laid it @ 80 to get back little more than a third of my stake.

That’s what Mike calls a “cash out”.

    Fil Dor isn’t qualified. Yet.

That’s because he hasn’t been placed in a long-distance chase. Indeed, he hasn’t run in a chase further than 2m6f, when winning a two-runner race at Thurles at 1/40.

Today, runs in the Rated Chase at Fairyhouse, which is a 3m five-runner effort. As long as he gets round, and doesn’t finish last, he’ll be qualified for the GN. Is currently rated 151 so is number 30 and would absolutely get in.

He’s 100/1 and I’ve had my first Ante Post bet in many many years.

And I repeat my question from above. Are they all qualified? Anyone got their eyes on watching out for which horses need to achieve and qualifications targets? (There’s always that Bluegrass Stamm 30 Chase at Down Royal where they sneak them in while everyone else is looking at Cheltenham!)

Fil Dor finished third in that race today to qualify. Didn’t go too hard, wasn’t really looking to win I wouldn’t say. Job done.

May even get a pound back from the handicapper.

Going to be more difficult for horses to do both Cheltenham and Aintree this year, with less time between the two.

Beauport could be a very good call – trip no problem as he won a Midlands National over 4m2f on heavy ground last season and ran a right screamer when 1½L 3rd in the 3m Long Walk Hurdle last time out and as a 9 yr old he is also the right age.
