    Here you go:

    Ginge on 1st April said:

Is everything ok with Nick Rockett?

Still 16/1 with Corals and Ladbrokes, but more than double that with Hills and 46 on the machine.

Celebre D,Allen was one of my handful of speculative bets and was getting excited with a few fences to go .
The way he stopped suggested it was something physical not just stamina as I think has been alluded to in another post.
It was a shame as he jumped beautifully.
He should have been stopped going into the last but maybe Mikey Nolan thought it was safer to pop him over then pull him up.
Fingers crossed for a positive outcome for the old fella.

Heatstroke according to Matt Chapman for Celebre D’allen. Apparently both should be ok touch wood which is grest to hear

Incidentally Michael Nolan has been suspended for 10 days for carrying on with Celebre D’allen when he was done which I notice some media outlets are already having a field day over.

Watched the replay and I thought it was a bit harsh as the horse still seemed to be in with a chance at the second last and he did pull him up, albeit a bit too late. Having said that, I also think this should be called out much more than it is and I don’t think Nolan was the only (or necessarily the worst) offender today.

That’s a shame as he was running his heart out ,there were a few folk questioning that he should run this week being 13yo but they nearly always get round safely as they have the experience and know the script.
Vic’s Canvass a few years ago nearly pulled off the big one .

Speaking on Luck On Sunday, Carl Llewellyn has just confirmed that Broadway Boy is healthy enough to return to the stables and will be retired if he cannot race again.

Celebre D’Allen had heat exhaustion but should be able to go home today.

Just a tremendous race. My only downside is unless it comes up heavy I can’t see a smaller yard winning it in the near future. Due to the changes in the race its now being won by grade 2 horses and you could say the front 3 were nearer group one than two. The third I think would have won had it had a decent jump at the last but the fences are part of the national test. Felt a bit for townend as thats galopin and now I am maximus who would have really go down into folklore had the won. Soft going and I reckon it could have been different but thats the ways it goes. Amazing to see how much it meant to all the connections even after so many big wins.

Great to get positive news about both Celebre D’Allen and Broadway Boy, both on their way home and hopefully will recover. Broadway Boy such a good jumper but last year seemed to have lost his spark so was good to see him racing enthusiastically again on Saturday

Meetingofthewaters picked up an injury too so fingers crossed for him as well.

Thanks for the updates on Broadway Boy. That’s the best news.

I do think there may be a slight case of making an example of Nolan, but it did end up being exactly what Aintree would not have wanted spectators to see – an exhausted horse collapsing within sight of the finish. Falls are somewhat unpredictable, heat exhaustion on a sunny April afternoon not so much. The jockeys do get reminded of this.

Agree about Nolan. I have a little bit of sympathy because he has made a mistake with the adrenalin pumping in the heat of the moment. But jockeys need to realise the Grand National is a race scrutinised like no other and unfortunately he has generated a lot of unwelcome headlines for racing in the tabloids.

I haven’t bothered reading it but there is an article in the “Daily Mail” which has attracted over 500 comments. I don’t imagine many of them are friendly towards racing.

Great news they both going home, felt sick when saw his fall then when he lay motionlessness I feared the worse, well done to the veterinary team at Aintree for giving the horses the time they needed to recover

It was such hot day even the winner wobbled shortly after the finish

I noticed the weights of the first three where in the over 11st again winner 11st 8lb thats most since Many CLouds

They were 3 of the top 4 in the handicap and all probably put up performances that would have seen them hitting the frame or thereabouts in the Gold Cup (assuming they could replicate that level of form over shorter at Cheltenham). Obviously none of them were going to take on Galopin going for number 3 this year. Curiously two of them will be 10 next year despite it not feeling like they’ve been around for long and for Grangeclare in particular it seems like what might have been. Did he have some issues for a season or two or was he just a latecomer?

“Grangeclare in particular it seems like what might have been. Did he have some issues for a season or two or was he just a latecomer?”

Won a bumper in May after arriving from Elliott’s after the dead horse photo fiasco, then IIRC did a suspensory just before what was supposed to be his novice hurdling season and missed the whole season at 5/6yo.
Then did go novice hurdling 6/7yo but was largely a flop, would travel well then cut out so presumably some issue.
Novice chasing last year at 7/8 and looked superb but cast in his box and injured (broken pelvis maybe?) just before the DRF (was entered in the race in which F2F schooled around alone after Gaelic Warrior ran around hating Leopardstown till he fell over) so that was that for last season.

This season- they considered Gold Cup but decided Grand National instead, presumably as so close together. I would have loved to have seen him in the Gold Cup, I think he’d have had a right chance.

The problem with Grangecare West is he’s a bit fragile , be interesting to see how he comes out of the race , he does seem to prefer better ground so u just have to hope he can stand up to it , def a nice race in him

Kevin Blake did a good analysis on Saturday of what’s required in the Grand National these days.

You no longer need a good jumper, since the fences were changed in 2013 the top 14 inches is loosely packed spruce.
The bigger, better, more exuberant jumpers are wasting time and energy jumping the fences.
Horses need to jump through the top 10 to 14 inches of the spruce, as it is far more efficient to do so. No better example of this than Tiger Roll.

Unfortunately Kevin’s combination tricast of 6 horses based on the the last 7 runnings of the race failed as Nick Rockett and Grangeclare West both didn’t qualify. As is often the case with stats they are very good at telling you the past but not so good at predicting the future.
