Obviously Stradivarius the one to beat here, but Santiago an interesting entry…..

I’m not a big fan of the cup series, but there’s big interest for me here, with a surprise entry for Euchen Glen. There’s no way I’m missing the opportunity to back him at 66’s EW here, should it cut up, as bar the front two, there’s not much between the rest. He’s ran three solid races on his comeback from injury, and sentiment aside, playing for second at 66’s, is not beyond him at his best. No doubt end up with egg on my face, but I’m taking a chance, and I’ll certainly top up if I see bigger.
I think Eagles By Day is an interesting runner two, and he’s another who could outrun his odds.
Euchen Glen 66’s EW
July 22, 2020 at 23:18 #1494721the way stradivarius won at ascot – he will almost lap this field on his more favoured ground.
July 27, 2020 at 11:02 #1495193Going to have a go at the straight forecast for this. Nayef Road has improved this year and Mark Johnston has a great record at GG. Santiago is incredibly short vs Stradivarius and not guaranteed to stay, so makes sense I think to have a go at one of Spanish Mission, probably prefers faster ground, Eagles By Day, interesting or Nayef Road to finish 2nd. Having a go at Nayef Road, pays just under 8s
Stradivarius-Nayef Road straight forecast 7.7/1
July 27, 2020 at 11:18 #1495195Santiago is already seen as a Gold Cup horse for next season by connections. Him not staying is unlikely. Think he can give Strad something to think about getting 15 lbs but this is all match practice for the Leger this year and the Gold Cup next year.
July 27, 2020 at 11:56 #1495199Yeah I should change that comment to not guaranteed to excel at 2m. He showed a fair amount of speed in the Irish Derby. This could also be a little bit of a fact finding mission for them. Anyways very very short vs Stradivarius for me, which means value in some of the others. Santiago could be anything. He could very well give Stradivarius something to think about, but can’t find any value anywhere in the front 2 really.
July 27, 2020 at 21:58 #1495278Il be very interested in Nayef Road w/o stradivarius
Hoping for 5/1+ as that seems a knocking e/w bet
July 27, 2020 at 22:04 #1495281Santiago is pretty strong in the market today. I wonder if that’s bookie money, desperately trying to avoid a Stradivarius hammering?!
July 27, 2020 at 22:06 #1495284Will have a look at that as well FF. I do quite fancy Nayef Road here, w/o Stradivarius obviously
July 27, 2020 at 22:29 #1495285The price differential between Santiago and nayef Road is way too big for me
Santiago won a terrible renewal of the Irish Derby and has never run over the trip
nayef road finished 8 lengths clear of the 3rd in the gold Cup a very creditable run
July 27, 2020 at 22:37 #1495287Echo that FF, nayef road without strad is the bet here for me @7/1, santiago is 2/9 which is an absolute farce if i can lay that i will be
My biggest worry is the trainer, i never, ever get his right, too many fall off a cliff when improvement looked likely
July 27, 2020 at 22:43 #1495289Betfair do usually have a w/o market on the exchange so you should be able to id think
July 28, 2020 at 06:18 #1495305I agree with you Ham on that I usually avoid Mark Johnston. Apparently though he’s been top trainer 4 years in a row at GG I read yesterday.
I’m more worried about the lack of market support now. Out to 20/1. Seems to crazy for a Gold Cup second surely?
I also agree FF with Santiago’s price. It’s crazy short on what’s he’s done.
Stradivarius-Nayef Road straight forecast is paying 13/1 now this morning.
Well I can’t resist a little more then at that price!
Also having some at 8/1 EW w/o fav but these prices feel too good to be true to be honest?!
Worth a shout though. Come on Mark Johnston!
July 28, 2020 at 07:51 #1495307Yeah ff theres usually a market but hard to get takers at that price, ill be trying though!
July 28, 2020 at 08:16 #1495308Santiago looks the chief threat to the favourite to me. Here’s why…
As a 3 year old he won the Queens Vase. Same as Stradivarius did before he won this as a 3 year old.
Backed it up by winning an Irish Derby despite not having an ideal break since Ascot.
People say what has he done to earn the odds? Well Stradivarius was rated 100 and a grade 2 horse before winning this. Santiago has achieved more.
Gets lots of weight from the favourite which makes him the chief threat on figures.
Gosden mentions him as a big threat to his horse in the media.
July 28, 2020 at 08:27 #1495309He’s the most obvious one no doubt, but he’s 2/1. Stradivarius was 6/1 before he won as a 3year old and he wasn’t up against himself!
I don’t have that much issue with the odds as such based on what he’s done, it’s the odds when you consider he’s racing against Stradivarius. He can’t be a 2/1 shot surely?
July 28, 2020 at 08:47 #1495311Not sure what odds you are expecting. If he is being backed then not a lot we can do about it.
July 28, 2020 at 11:08 #1495322On official ratings santiago should be fav
Hes rated 115, strad 125
And he gets 15lb
