12-1 is a nice price Mike but I’d just be concerned a horse that couldn’t beat Nayef Road wouldn’t have the class to win a Leger normally. Maybe I’m being a touch harsh but Nayef Road was beaten easy enough in last years Leger, I’m not sure he’s improved that much if at all as a 4 year old.

Yes! Get in! Looked too good to be true but actually wasn’t! Great run from Nayef Road, was a simple bet, just follow the Gold Cup form in.July 28, 2020 at 15:38 #1495398Waste of time going for the Arc when there’s the Long Distance Cup he can win again.
July 28, 2020 at 15:42 #1495399Tinman not many Leger horses get chucked in to a race like that at this stage of their careers. It was always a prep for the Leger AOB said. You might be right there may be one lurking somewhere but at this point dunno what.
July 28, 2020 at 15:45 #1495400I have had a bet on Darian for the Leger, from a classy family full brother to Too Darn Hot. I am just hoping he gets there. Had Logician last year 12/1.
July 28, 2020 at 16:33 #1495402Nayef Road did his own thing up front. Time 13 seconds slower than standard. A right crawl.
July 28, 2020 at 16:35 #1495403Mike im not rubbishing it, its a fact what i said, thats how its calculated and thats why they give weight, to even out there rating in open company Against there elders…..
What the tinman said is correct, the tv, trainers, media etc feel its too generous in some cases, which it is come the end of the season as the 3yos tend to be a different horse from april at the start of the season than they do in september. Best example being the extra 2lbs santiago got from strad today, the 4 days from now until august 1st make no difference in the horses progression… so its effectively well in 2lbs
Hopefully thattl save you a few £ down the line so your not thinking that the lbs convert to or’s/rprs in a WFA scale
Santiago wont win the leger i agree with that.
July 28, 2020 at 16:53 #1495405I wouldn’t rule out santiago winning the leger on that personally
They went slow and he pulled his chance away
Finishing just on the heels of the gold cup 1/2 is by far the strongest piece of form he has
In a stronger run race id think he’d finish ahead of nayef road who looks a much improved horse this year upped to marathon trips
And I backed nayef road so can’t be pocket talking
Though like Mike987654 my leger hope is Darain, who I’m very much looking forward to seeing up in trip
July 28, 2020 at 20:55 #1495435The thing is I’d expect to see a decent Leger horse go past Nayef Road (particularly in what turned into a relative test of speed rather than stamina) – Logician did twice last season with ease, Kew Gardens would have, Capri despite the wheels coming off in his later years was a very good 3 year old who beat Stradivarius and Crystal Ocean in his Leger and Cracksman in his Irish Derby so as a 3 year old he would have…. the two before that were poor renewals and he almost certainly would have been good enough already to win them. Maybe this one will be too but if there is another one of the first three named lurking I’d be concerned Santiago might not be good enough. It is early days though and it could be a weak renewal we just don’t know. I shouldn’t have said I’d have torn up my ticket on him that was too strong without the evidence of what he’s likely to come up against so apologies
July 28, 2020 at 21:41 #1495440If the price had gone to 4/6 I would of had have a very big bet on Strad, missed the 4/6 earlier and the best price I saw for 2 seconds was 8/13 but how did Dettori get boxed in, poor riding, too much worrying about the 15lb given away . I can’t understand why the owner wants to go for the arc, it is too short. 12 or 14/1 is not long enough. If Strad wins the Arc I will kiss my cats backside.
