The trainer was saying pre race that delta work was his gold cup horse

So even Gordon doesn’t see him as being good enough

For know id say Saturday is as good as he is, happy for him to prove me wrong if he runs in the savills chase next

How so ff? I Certainly dont think it would be one of the worst renewals of all time for galvin to win, not that i think he will win just yet though but i dont see why not, now rated 165, rated 1lb higher than minella indo was prior to his gold cup success (the only run in which hes supposedly ran to 175) (he definitely did NOT run to 175), APT who finished 2nd to MI had been running to 160-167 for the best part of 2 years prior to (172 in the GC (no chance))

If there was ever a benchmark for form its frodon, whos ran conescutively into the double digits 160-169 on a track which would have suited him, so you can safely assume you know galvins ran to around 164/165 anyway, given that he has excellent cheltenham form (1-1-2 over fences there) theres absolutely no reason he cant run to 169 which might/probably would be about good enough this year, obviously because its the gold cup gets upgraded to 175.

Hes bang there for me, currently.

Also, trainer comments are about as pointless as they come, “delta works his gold cup horse” you can rest assured now, thats either not the truth, or has completely changed since the weekend, delta work is as inconsistent as they come, best way to please giggi who are back buying is to promote there GC horse at all costs..

As it stands currently and until proven otherwise, galvins his gold cup horse.

As for minella indo being unfit, we shall see, doesnt have the worst FTO record and it was a grade 1, there was no need to run him in it atall, could have taken the same route as last season

20/1 galvin or 6/1 minella indo, no brainer for me…

I fail to see anything outwith minella indo/ABP who look good enough, castlebawn west looks a nice type but doubt hes making this, asterions not a good enough jumper, Chantry house isnt good enough, allaho certainly will go ryanair, APT ? Maybe but given the record of returning to the race for a second time, envois not good enough

    Wide open.

Bit premature to say Chantry House not being good enough considering he is a second season chaser who is unexposed over the distance and with a good rating after just 5 chase starts.

Good arguments Ham, but this one doesn’t quite stick to me. Delta Work might well be inconsistent, but it’s pretty obvious the horse is always needing the run at Down Royal. He shaped well on Saturday and to me proved he retains the ability he had. He finished closer to Galvin than he did The Storyteller and Chris’s Dream….

Galvin has proven himself a G1 horse, but i still think he should’ve won on Saturday IF good enough, he had a run under his belt.

As for minella indo being unfit, we shall see, doesnt have the worst FTO record and it was a grade 1, there was no need to run him in it atall, could have taken the same route as last season

Lol come on..he won a point and a egg and spoon race on debut.

He’s been stuffed my Small Farm (lol) and Laurina.

He’s clearly better as the season goes on and importantly at Cheltenham. Henry also had another horse to run in the race at Wexford so he couldn’t anyway.

I know he won the pertemps but I’m not convinced Delta really performs at Cheltenham , Id be amazed if Galvin didn’t beat him in a GC , I wouldn’t worry to much about what Elliot says , it’ll be all go for the GC while I reckon Delta,s GC maybe of the Irish variety

Ruling out unexposed multiple grade 1 winners like chantry House and envoi allen as not good enough then putting up galvin make little sense to me but its a game of opinions I guess

Had you questioned envois stamina id agree its far from certain

Chantry is still unexposed but he was gifted the race at aintree , he was poor first time out last season so I’d be happy to take him on on reappearance

I dont plan on backing him either but its too early to dismiss him as not good enough

Still though jack, training him for fitness in a grade 1 doesnt really stack up for me but im not suggesting he wont come on for the run, not atall, of course he will,im aware of the opposition he faced FTO prior and im not suggesting he wont win the GC i dont really have a strong view on anything, was only really answering ff stating itd be the worst renewal of all time if he galvin won lol, but delta work wont be winning at cheltenham, thats my strongest view on anything ive said.

And ff/mike, chantry house has yet to really “win” a grade 1 for me over a fence, envoi coming down meant he won a horrible jlt and he was most certainly beat at aintree IMO when gifted the race but lets just pretend EDR stood up and lost, it would have been tight, are we suggesting espoir de romay would have a hope in this on that formline, not in this lifetime… until proven otherwise unexposed or not, the formlines miles off this level, miles… id take shan blue to reverse aintree with him.

Chantry House may have been fortunate at Cheltenham but the fences are there to be jumped. As for Aintree its usual for some horses to not be at their best there after Cheltenham. I think Chantry House would’ve travelled all over Espoir if he hadn’t gone to Cheltenham and been prepared for Aintree instead.

he was poor first time out last season

He had kissing spines. (And in fact hurdled quite badly in the Supreme so I wonder if they were starting to bother him then). Once they were sorted out he was back out winning remarkably quickly.

id take shan blue to reverse aintree with him.
He’d have to reverse Cheltenham form and Aintree form then. Chantry beat him 12 lengths at Cheltenham despite losing a shoe.
“Oh Envoi woulda beat him if he’d stood up” “Oh Espoir de Romay woulda beat him if he’d stood up” “Oh Shan Blue woulda won the Charlie Hall a million lengths further if he’d stood up”. Shoulda woulda coulda. It’s jumps racing. They have to jump all the jumps. If you want to point to what would have happened had a horse stood up, why not consider the first of only 3 defeats Chantry has suffered, when he made a hash of the third last in his P2P whilst in the lead, losing his rider and leaving Monkfish to pick up the pieces (Fury Road and Fiddlerontheroof back in 4th and 5th).

Just saw an interview with Nicky Henderson. He said Shishkin and Chantry House are the two that have physically developed the most over the summer in his yard. He said if all goes well at Sandown at the weekend Chantry House will likely go to the King George. He said he can go the pace there due to his form at 2 and a half.

He won’t be the last outsider I’ll add for this, but more than happy to have an early bet on Minella Times here.

It would obviously make sense to assume that Aintree is the target, but I just wonder, now he’s best part of a stone higher, that this is on the radar.

At this stage it’s obviously unlikely, but he’s only an 8yo, and they might just fancy a crack at it.

I might be mad after his run today but I have taken the 10/1 against Minella Indo.

He was not in great form this time last year either but still came good at the Festival, where over the years he has won a Barlett, should have won the RSA and then won the Gold Cup.

I honestly think we will see a better horse on spring ground on a track that plays to his strengths.
