Hes going to the grade 1 at down royal by the sounds of it
I can’t decide what way to look into that. Seems to me like he’s followin the Storyteller’s route and therefore, it’s probably his GC at Down Royal. At the same time if you’re a backer, and he does win it, you’ll at least have some hope for a GC…..i’m edging to the “won’t be good enough” thoughts.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 14, 2021 at 01:42 #1563241If Galvin isn’t Elliot’s GC horse then what will be ? , last year they put him away for the winter so he didn’t run in the bad ground , will they not do similar this season ? , has he a native river profile to him where he keeps winning and people are slow to realise how good he is ?

October 14, 2021 at 09:45 #1563247Delta Work? Still only 8- done far more as a Novice than Galvin did and is proven in open company.
He’s never exactly hinted at being GC quality bar his run in the 4mile which he won without being absolutely a standout performer.
Down Royal will tell us more, it’ll be his Gold Cup so to speak i would say. He’ll be given every chance to prove himself as an open G1 runner. Whereas the likes of the proven Delta Work will be out to clear the cobwebs. Beating Frodon round a sharp 3 miles is different to beating up handicappers which he did yesterday though.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 15, 2021 at 10:49 #1563338I don’t agree with it being his GC Jack , he,s 7 so we really don’t know how good he could be , Native River couldn’t win the 4 miler then look where he ended up , he won on Tues prob 60/70% fit , he was blowing hard in the enclosure after , both the horses he beat were race fit , nothing against Frodon but he,s a one trick pony and we know he ain’t a GC horse , he can get beat at down royal and still be in the GC , they are two completely different races

Read what im saying lol. GC so to speak, as in, right now there are still massive doubts over whether hes a open class G1 horse. Down Royal will give him his chance to prove yes or no. He’ll be going there race fit vs others not fit. If he can’t beat the likes of Frodon or at least go close, they will probably have to re-evaluate his target.
Of course he’ll have been more than 60/70% fit lol.
Nothing against Frodon but he’s a King George winner, on a flat, sharp right handed track….which is what Down Royal is. Nicholls says he’ll be ready for his life. 167 rated, Galvin 159.I am not saying by “his GC so to speak” that if he wins it, then that’s that. It’s his acid test, maybe that’s a better way of putting it. Two different races, but both require a top 3m chaser, and his jumping needs tidying up no end.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 15, 2021 at 17:51 #1563363I read what you said Jack , I’m just disagreeing , you may well rate the king George form but it was more the ride rather than Frodon being the best horse in my opinion , I don’t think it,ll go down as one of the strongest , regardless of what Nicholls says I’m sure Frodon main aim will be the KG again , we know what he is you beat him by heading him and disappointing him , last year in the Many clouds Native river headed him and he spat the dummy

October 15, 2021 at 19:30 #1563373You can disagree all you like, but at this stage, Galvin needs to prove he’s a g1 open horse, and Frodon has. That’s the point i’m making. I don’t particularly care how strong the KG was, we know Frodon is a good horse but not a 3m2 Chelt horse.

October 31, 2021 at 19:35 #1565671Thought Minella Indo was a bit underwhelming yesterday, but I suppose it’s a long season
October 31, 2021 at 19:51 #1565677I dont like him for the GC befair but TBF to him he was underwhelming for the most part last season until the GC where he suddenly found 11lbs improvement (doubt that)
Thought galvin was super yesterday,
From a distance i think the race currently looks underwhelming
Galvins the only one id bet currently, i think
October 31, 2021 at 21:23 #1565684Indo was def undercooked yesterday and Rachel was kid gloves with him , time may prove the GC has left a mark ( a lot of winners are never the same ) however it’s fair to say his best to runs have come at Cheltenham over the last 2 years , still a worthy fav

October 31, 2021 at 21:51 #1565686I thought Minella Indo ran well yesterday. I got it completely wrong with my earlier comments – he was undercooked. Gary O’Brien and Ruby Walsh on RTV both said he looked burly in the paddock. Walsh said he would be amazed if he won. Given those circumstances, he ran well to still be there two out. I would not be discouraged about his Gold Cup chance at all.
November 1, 2021 at 09:19 #1565715I think this will be the turn of A Plus Tard; only just 7 last season and it was one of the few instances at the festival where someone got the better of Blackmore
Two years ago he was beating CPS over 2 miles and I think last year’s Gold Cup was one too early.

To be fair he’s still 20s so i shouldn’t crab him too much but given he was race fit for Saturday, and clearly Gordon’s one for the race (Delta always strips fitter). I’m not sure he’s going to be open to as much improvement as some think. Frodon around a track like Down Royal is very good, so it’s certainly shown Galvin is a G1 chaser, whether he’s good enough for this i wouldn’t be convinced.
He had every chance on Saturday.Twitter: Jackh1092
Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 1, 2021 at 13:10 #1565750Galvin has no chance in this imo
He might pass beaten horses to place but it would need to be one of the worst renewals of all time for him to win
By all accounts indo was as big as a house and will come on massively for the run
November 1, 2021 at 17:16 #1565799I def wouldn’t be dismissing Galvin yet , my concern on Sat was would he be able to travel and jump at pace , he did and we know he,ll def get up the hill , as I said I have a definite don Cossack vib about him and he,s still value
