It might be a bit different Mike. You’d need a horse good enough to jump at pace- so a grade 2 2 miler probably- and everyone would know what you were at and leave the hare run off into the distance.
March 18, 2022 at 16:12 #1588558McCoy went for Galvin that made me think it had less of a chance.
I feel a bit sorry for pacemakersMarch 18, 2022 at 16:13 #1588559Mullins / Elliott / Henderson / De Bromhead / Nicholls can’t be as smart as you Mike.
BUY THE SUN
March 18, 2022 at 16:14 #1588561Pacemakers never get any respect. Similar to people that nab some glory at the end of a thread – neither have won !
I am certainly not in the first name click 😄March 18, 2022 at 16:17 #1588562Yes that’s probably right Green they need to go the gallop and there’s the risk of injury too.
March 18, 2022 at 16:18 #1588563She was shaking a bit as she held the microphone with both hands. All very emotional for her. These jockeys have to win the race then the viewing public. Not a job for the faint hearted.
Who would be a jockey ?
You need guts !March 18, 2022 at 16:22 #1588566I don’t think they would allow a hare in the Gold Cup !
There’s nothing in the rules but tradition says…
NO HARING !March 18, 2022 at 16:29 #1588571I feel sorry for the pacemakers too Gamble. Always like it when they hold on and win e.g. Maroof.
March 18, 2022 at 16:36 #1588574Gamble, I was told Paul Townend used a virtual hare in his head the way he rode towards the stands rails in the first three hurdle races today. His mounts looked like a 6 dog, always wide….
March 18, 2022 at 16:37 #1588576Galvin lost because he’s not good enough not because they didn’t go fast enough
A plus tard won easily and indo wouldve been way further clear in 2nd than he was if Robbie power hadn’t done a Harry Skelton and gone for home so early.
March 18, 2022 at 16:46 #1588578Galvin should be trained for the Grand National next year. Completely outpaced when they quickened but he was plugging on relentlessly up the hill.
March 18, 2022 at 16:47 #1588581Initial looks can be deceiving. The time was very fast it’s been reported.
March 18, 2022 at 16:48 #1588584“Cheveley Park have had a good week. I hope they continue to dabble in NH racing.”
Not sure they will. They said they were in it to win a Cheltenham Gold Cup and they have. As far as I am aware they have not been buying any new stock.
March 18, 2022 at 16:49 #1588587Cork, he’ll be joint top-weight with Royale Pagaille. But he has the looks of a horse for 3m4f and beyond.
March 18, 2022 at 16:52 #1588595“Can people stop backing the Al Boum Photo’s of this world lol. Aside from the odd Champion Chase win from superstars, 10 year old plus just dont win championship races any more”.

Could it be something to do with 10 year olds being vastly outnumbered by other age groups?
…And how can a 10 year old win one of the races where there were no 10 year olds taking part?…Vast majority of 10 year olds in these races are at big odds; is it a surprise they did not win?
Did Mike know beforehand that the 10 year old who failed by just a short head to win the Gold Cup actually had no chance of winning?
It is true that obviously 10 year olds have been on the go for longer and therefore fewer are in the best form of their lives – which punters need to take account of when assessing whether it is currently in good form and / or is worth taking a chance on at the price.
But to dismiss their chance or criticise other punters for backing any 10 year old is just plain stupid.
Value Is EverythingMarch 18, 2022 at 16:58 #1588599You are more the experts
I’m a bit out of touch these days.
Yes I can remember Maroof at a big price. He was a lackey that came good. I missed the first two races Ruby – I was in royal company rather than hay and may. I was looking through the form of the Gold Cup when the hurdle race before it was on. I used to use Australian sites and they kept crashing. From what I read it all looked a bit open. Some of the runners may have been a bit past it but the pace made a difference. I have enjoyed my selectively watched Cheltenham.
I have been doing so much travelling I was really tired on Tuesday, and thought as I would miss Wednesday, I would rather not see any at all. A very spoiled attitude. I had no alarm and actually woke up at 1.25pm, so late, and I switched on the menace and staring at me was the super horse that won the first. It was the fact I thought it would win that made me back the winner of the Arkle. I really used to enjoy the betting side, but strange I enjoyed the spectacle this year. I rather enjoyed watching other people enjoying themselves – rather than just me – that is ODD in itself.
I may have changed into a totally different person – which although novel is slightly worrying.

Nothing really stupid about it. The stats tell you it gets harder. Its friendly advice to save some folk a few quid, no offence intended.
