Absolutely gutted.
Really hope Cue Card goes and wins it now
February 21, 2017 at 13:24 #1288275Cue Card wins and so begins the comment bombardment of how Thistlecrack destroyed him at Kempton.
I think he will win also, 11 year olds in the race dont usually perform, but this is definitely an unusual year, if he runs to 170, who beats him??

It’s a different race to most. I cant see an eleven year old winning a race like this. I can see Sizing John, Native River and Djakadam all in a line turning for home with Native River trailing off coming to the last and Sizing John outstaying Djakadam up the hill.

0 chance of sizing john outstaying native river up the hill
Will be staggered if he wins

At this rate though, who knows

Why?
Perhaps all bookmakers can return stakes on all injured horses? What a great idea that would be.
February 21, 2017 at 14:20 #1288288The perils of ante-post betting. Those who backed it at juicy prices months ago must be tearing their hair out.
Maybe I’m pushing too hard with the conspiracy theories but perhaps the fact that it got beat last time, they looked at that race and thought the gold cup is over two furlongs further, and it’s got no chance of getting up the hill?

Doubt that. The horse that beat him is dead and the rest were a good way back. I’d say he’s really injured.

We have been soured by the antics of other stables but I wouldnot believe this for a minute. Its just not his style at all. Or most trainers
Ive seen some online try to water down the bullshit we get from certain quarters by claiming that they are all the same. They most certainly are not
its a great shame and although having backed NR i will go berserk if the most wonderful horse of these last few years wins it at 11. And i wouldn’t be surprised. For all that some will claim that he “beat nothing” he bounced round ascot last week. Was a privilege to be there. The Kempton run means nothing. Even when winning last year he wasnt as fluent as he can be and he just doesnt get the track
February 21, 2017 at 15:20 #1288301On ratings Djakadam is right up there with the rest of them. I can easily see him turning for home with Native River. After the last and up the hill its anyones race.
Having said that I hope Cue Card beats them all!

Dont know how this can be taken as a negative, around 30% of antepost money was placed on thistlecrack, plus likely in the future people who get that refund will stay loyal to PP to some degree
Its a great incentive to those who benefit (dosent benefit me whatsoever never had a dime on him in a single)

I have to admit it annoys me also. I received a “justice refund” when getabird was declared a NR.
Why give a refund for just thistlecrack or getabird, min and faugheen. Which were all favs?
To entice the casual punter?People even expect these refunds as soon as a horse is out or is an unlucky loser/ faller during the race etc….
One of the reasons why the antepost odds are getting shorter each year Imo.

The fact that some can still benefit from getting a free bet when a main “fav” is ruled out is a positive not a negative no matter what anyone sais, for example the casual punters or the big race followers will look at one angle, the hype surrounding thistlecrack and the stack of 1s next to his name would be enough for there money to be placed
the “majority” of bets on the gold cup were on thistlecrack, 30% + of the market to be precise, you have to applaud PP for doing that, they didnt have to do it…..
You cant tar them for who they decide to refund antepost bets on, the fact that they do it atall as i said is due some credit, its stating the obvious that there going to do it on the “big hype horses” so saying why dont they do it to lesser important horses/races is stupid
And no, this is absolutely nothing to do with why antepost market odds are shorter, nothing whatsoever.
