Spot on BigG, it felt like a cold and clinical (or maybe cynical!) performance, maybe Alex suffering from the after effects of the laryngitis

I will stick up for Arctic Monkeys and say they were decent. I don’t think Turner is ever Mr Charisma on stage, that’s just how he is. Fact is, they’ve moved on and aren’t 20 any more singing about pubs and shagging so it was probably more of a set for the fans (they are in the middle of a tour). That said, for a festival they could maybe have jettisoned one or two of the slower ones for the older hits.

Watched the Manic Street Preachers on Saturday. They started off well with a good performance of “Motorcycle Emptiness”. But “If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next” was an odd choice on which to close. It is not exactly a feel good anthem to send the crowd away happy!

I read an article which said Lana Del Rey’s lateness was caused by “patriarchy-sponsored pressure on beauty standards”.

Nothing to do with her being unable to keep time!

Good grief! I suppose it would make us part of the patriarchy to call her a diva? She is a good singer but she sounds a bit insufferable as a person, although I’m sure many famous people are. Most of us manage to get up and ready for work on time at least five days per week, and we have to a damn sight longer than 90 minutes too. The Guardian live blog was taking pot shots at GnR for their (or at least Axl Rose’s) infamous lateness and in the end they were bang on time and did two and half hours while their darling Lana was late, did an hour then had a tantrum.

I put the GnR set on again in full and he was most exposed by the ballads like November Rain but they really did seem to be enjoying themselves, perhaps while they can! If/when his voice goes even more, they’ll have to call it a day. The band can sure as hell still play too. It was good fun despite his ropey singing.

I’ve also watched a few of the sets that I completely missed now, quite enjoyed the Manics and QOTSA were good if it’s your sort of thing. They all disappear after 30 days so there’s a few weeks left yet. Test Match Special will be today’s soundtrack however.

Here is the article. I should point out I am not an habitual reader of “Glamour” but it was one of the first articles to appear when I searched for “Lana Del Rey Glastonbury 2023”!

The author also pathetically complains that a male performer would not have been treated in the same way. Ignoring the fact that the festival’s licence does not permit performances on the main stages after midnight.

I like her work and always will but she did not cover herself in glory last weekend. Aside from turning up late, she has clearly not allowed her whole set to be put on iplayer. Not a good look when plenty of other performers have.

    ‘If they cut power’

    Sounds like she knew.

Of course, we’ll never know if a man would have been cut off because they, and the other female acts who were last on their respective stages, turned up on time!

As I understand it, they can have their licence revoked if they aren’t careful with the curfews. However good someone is, it’s not worth another half hour for the sake of putting the entire festival at risk. I am still of the opinion that they could allow a bit more time though, it’s three days a year (with approximately one year in five off in normal times) and I am sure local residents don’t mind the premium that a Glastonbury address no doubt adds to the price of their already expensive houses for example. As I said before, go away for the weekend if it’s that much of an issue.
