There are literally dozens of acts that aren’t white blokes. The main stage can only have three headline acts, white blokes are popular amongst what is an overwhelmingly white crowd so if they make up the bulk of the headline acts then so be it. Nobody is making anyone watch it, there’s about eight stages in total with all sorts going on.

They do need to spare us the lectures on sustainability etc though, Glastonbury sits in an incredibly draughty glass house on that front.

Axl Rose letting the side down a bit here, Slash can still play though.

Yeah got a little bored of the Guns N Roses, at 11 I’m going to put on The Park Stage to watch Fatboy Slim when his set starts.

I was right into Metal and heavy rock back in late 70s/early 80s. Never liked Guns ‘n’ Roses – typical American rock band. Always thought they were a bit of a joke – sorry if ur fans

My favs were Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, UFO, early Iron Maiden, Judas Priest – saw all of these on a number of occasions.

As for Glasto, never appealed to me. A few younger fam membs are there this year. And they’re just ‘ordinary’ working class kids, who are more into the pub, clubs, hols abroad.
I think the typical Glasto attendee, from ‘back in the day’; the liberal trad middle classes are just a small segment of overall audience these days. The newer middle class attendees are just going for the music.
I noticed a few Corbynistas and, of course, you have the celebs wanting to appear cool and into all the usual campaign type stuff.
The music is certainly diverse. I mean where do you see Lizzo performing to 000s of white kids?
The audience does seem very white though.
This Guns ‘n’ Roses set is their typical, boring crap. Think i’ll get the Foos up on iplayer.

Agree, Axl is terrible. I can barely hear him.

Is there any reason the BBC is not showing Lana Del Rey’s set? Rather watch her than Fatboy Slim.

Try iPlayer Cork, most of the stages are live all day. She’s listed as coming on at 10.30 so don’t know what’s happening.

I didn’t see or hear a single second of ITV Racing at Royal Ascot and it’s the same deal with “Glasto” as a former female middle class hippy friend of mine used to refer to it.

But I’m enjoying reading about it in this thread, not least because I’m saving fortunes by not being there.

This will make me feel better about the copious number of orange lollies I fully intend to purchase at Waitrose tomorrow morning.

Don’t understand this, Lana Del Rey got her mic cut off at midnight but the somewhat louder Fatboy Slim went on to quarter past.

That said, if she knew there was a midnight limit then why turn up half an hour late? Meanwhile GnR turned up on time (unusually for them!) and played two and a half hours. Perhaps answers the question about who should be headlining the main stage.

It’s bollocks though frankly, can’t the local curtain twitching busybodies give it a rest for three days and allow music to go on a bit later? Bugger off on holiday for the weekend if it bothers you that much. I bet they don’t complain about all the money it brings in.

I thought that might happen to Lana Del Rey when I read she was half an hour late on stage. She says she was still having her hair done, in which case she should have started asked her hairdresser to start half an hour earlier.

I hope it was not connected to that silly incident earlier in the year when she objected to her name being so far down the official poster (not noticing it was actually in alphabetical order). It is a pity because “Summertime Sadness” and “National Anthem” were amongst the songs she could not perform.

I do not know the area but are there many houses around Worthy Farm? It does not look like it on the television pictures, so how many people would be objecting to the noise?

Residents near Wimbledon often grumble during the fortnight, which makes me wonder why they bought a property near to one of the world’s major sporting venues if it bothers them that much. I think Centre and No 1 courts can only play to something like 11pm under the roof but I can understand that to an extent. The District Line must stop around midnight.

“she was half an hour late on stage. She says she was still having her hair done, in which case she should have started asked her hairdresser to start half an hour earlier.”

People pay fortunes on tickets and to travel there – so many of these highly-paid performing artistes have zero concept of customer service, or that the bottom line is they’re paid (very well) to do a job of work entertaining a paying audience.

I’m sure many see themselves as superior beings who can do as they please.

And sadly too many of their fans deify them and happily accept reduced time on sets or whatever.

I was flicking between performances but she appeared to still be having her hair and makeup done on stage. Perhaps she was told to go on at 11 or not bother?

‘And sadly too many of their fans deify them and happily accept reduced time on sets or whatever.’

Absolutely Ian, she even gets a gushing five star review in The Guardian. A full set may well have been worth that, she is a great talent. I’d be knocking at least two off for lateness, sorry but you have one job to do for an hour and a half at 10.30pm. There is literally no excuse for being late.

I don’t know the reasons behind the curfew either. In in the past I have heard of artists and/or the organisers happily paying the fine so I don’t know why the change of tune here (*ba-dum-tsh*).

I think the Guardian would give her a 5 star review if she just read the phone book. They do seem a bit besotted with her.

I do admire her and I think she has written some genuinely great songs. But being so late on stage is poor. I would have been very disappointed if I had paid big money for a ticket.

The Guardian gave Guns N Roses 4 stars, which is also generous. What I saw of their set was poor.

I watched the Manic Street Preachers open their set with a rather good rendition of “Motorcycle Emptiness”. But isn’t it somewhat ironic to hear a song about the hollow consumer culture watched by a crowd of affluent, middle class people who have spent hundreds of pounds on a ticket to attend an event which is now more corporate than edgy?
