    Beware of your bets.

    Above bet should read

    URBAIN

de Sivola, not UT at all.

At least I actually backed the right horse, just wrote it wrong here.

I thought something was wrong here too.

I’d backed Fingal Bay for two races and took the quote from the wrong race. I backed Boston Bob for the Albert Bartlett

    So it should read:

Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle Cheltenham Festival
    23 points @ 14/1 (WH) Fingal Bay
    25 points @ 2/1 (L) Boston Bob
    4 points @ 24/1 (betfair) Lovecen

And can afford bigger bets on these two so a further:

Bookmaker prices are all over the place. One 7/2, one 9/2 and 5/1. William Hill out on their own on 8’s. Grands Crus is much better than he showed at Cheltenham. Impressive at the Boxing Day meeting this season. At 8/1 it’s worth taking a chance he can return to his best by then.

Not happy. With confirmed front-runner Kaffie a non-runner pace was funereal. Jockey giving his rivals lengths at the start and then allowing Ruby first run in a sprint for home. No wonder Jack Doyle has been replaced by Noel Fehily. Be surprising if placings aren’t reversed in the Cheltenham Mares race.

Not doing so well this year, but this isn’t the first time I’ve got out of trouble (well, almost) in the last bet/race of the day. For Non Stop coming through late.

Not much between a winning and losing day.

    11 points @ 11/2 (sporting) The Minak (SP 7/2)
    Penny Max a non-runner
    -37
Cappa Bleu a Grand National and JLT (Cheltenham) entry, wasn’t given as hard a race as the first two. Even so came through with every chance at the last. Mistake there didn’t help. Jumped well otherwise and still have great hopes for him. Like many Nicholls horses on the day, The Minak disappointed.

    3:00 Ascot
    40 points @ 9/2 (b365) Medermit (SP 7/2) 2nd
    10 points @ 4/1 (b365) Kauto Stone (SP 11/4)
    -50
Medermit improved and could give Gord another big ante-post win in the Ryanair. Although will have to do so again to beat the winner here, Riverside Theatre. Thought the Henderson horse might be rusty, but not a bit of it. The one they have to beat at Cheltenham. 7/1 after the race long gone. Kauto Stone pulled hard and shouldn’t be written off, particularly as Nicholls was briefly out of form. Possibly the Champion Chase might be his best chance.

    3:20 Haydock
    28 points @ 6/1 (SJ) Giles Cross (SP 4/1) 1st Return 196 points

    15 points @ 11/1 (VC) Rey Nacarado (SP 10/1)
    (69)
    +127
Giles Cross well backed and won with a bit to spare under a confident ride. Putting up a fine Grand National trial. However, he’s thought best on soft ground.

    3:45 Wincanton
    37 points @ 11/4 (sporting) Celestial Halo (SP 7/4) 2nd
    -37
Got tremendous value, but as Reet would say, “no good if it doesn’t win”. Don’t often back so many Nicholls horses, but chose a day where he’s briefly out of form. In truth though, even at his best Celestial Halo wouldn’t have beaten the seemingly back to form winner.

Days Stakes 193, Days Return 196, Days Profit 3 points. A Profit!

    2:00 Kempton
    20 points each way @ 13/2 (1/4 odds b365) Une Artiste (SP 13/2)
    -40
Une Artiste 4th seemed to have been looked after a bit too well, but suppose it’s “pocket talk”. Not that he’d have been in the first two. My fault, shouldn’t have backed one having its third run shortly after its second. With possibly other targets ahead.

    3:05 Kempton
    12 points each way @ 14/1 (b365 1/4) Consigliere (SP 12/1)
    30 points @ 7/1 (b365) Hectors Choice (SP 15/2) 2nd
    -42
Arrgh! Consigliere one place out of the medals in 4th, and the win bet one place off the win. With former such a dodgepot (may be it’s hindsight but) may be should’ve concentrated on the 7/1 shot each way. Some may think Moore went for home too soon. Rather give Brennan credit. Nacarat can idle and his rider seemed to allow Hector first run.

Days Stakes 82, Days Return 0, Days Deficit -82 points.

    6 points @ 13.5/1 (betfair) Carabinier (SP 14/1)

Both main bets very well backed. Nataani (imo) would’ve won with a better ride. Murphy got mixing it with a horse who likes being on his own. Then couldn’t see a stride at the last, lost ground jumping before finishing with a rush, all too late.

Marty’s Mission backed to the exclusion of everything else. No way did he have that big a chance. Ballyfoy just missed out by a rapidly diminishing neck. Although it wasn’t a great race and few will go on from this.

Unless it was so long ago not to be in the Racing Post archive.
Anyone know who I’m thinking about? Wore black and gold stripes if I remember that correctly. Big if! Think I’ve got Alzheimers.
