No real thoughts just yet, wait and see which ones will turn up here….

I`m not sure how to assess the Derby winning form of Windstoss. Not the strongest of Derbys in my eyes and some horses behind him like Enjoy Vijay(2nd) and Promise of Peace(5th) were already beaten in a listed race and a weak grade 3.

Iquitos is the obvious one and loves the track. He might be the best chance of winning it for the Germans. If the ground gets at least soft Savoir Vivre has a very good chance but this i very unlikely at the moment.

There 15 britsh horses entered, 1 or 2 might turn up in the end, you can see the entire entries here:

Would love to the likes of Benbatl or Wings of Desire there but i doubt that this will happen.

I´d say the race is wide open and Windstoss the worst bet at the current odds.

On the former I agree, but on the latter of course not, this is Iquitos for me.

This discussions and opinions about the german derby winner taking on the elders in the Großer Preis von baden and if he is good enough reminds me of the 2000 Edition. This was part of the Emirates World Series and Samum has destroyed a high class field. At the time i was 17 years young and have visited Baden Racecourse for the first time…couldn`t believe how easily he won against these british battalion :-)

I want to post the result as a picture. Can someone explain me please how this works? If i click on “img” i have to fill in an URL but i have this as jpeg on my hard disk.

@Hein: Do you travel to Baden? I`ll be there for the final Weekend, September the 2nd and 3rd.

Hi Noverre, this a a good comparison to 2000, and the result would suit me :good: .
Beforehand one can only anticipate, and I see Windstoß as outstanding.
For me he will deter many of the British horses and then Iquitos remains the main rival.
Iquitos is a dual Gr1 winner at Baden, but he has only beaten horses like Nightflower, and for me this is not too much. So I find 55:10 a very good price for Windstoß.
Unfortunately I won’t travel there and will have to stick to the livestream  .
When you go there, I wish you a pleasant time!

I´m with Noverre. I don´t know what you see in this Derby form. Enjoy Vijay was beaten 4 1/2L by Iquitos recently. Colomano/Instigator were beaten by similar distances by Dschingis Secret, Shanjo even further. Other top ten finishers in the Derby (Monreal, Promise of Peace, Ming Jung) were beaten in Listed company by another older horse in Near England. The form of the older horses seems much stronger.

That´s before we get to the issue that at the current odds Colomano and Instigator would be much better bets among the three year olds through various form lines.

Lacazar is the big unknown. If you wanted to bet her, I´d get it.

Shame Attica got hurt. She looked the best 3 year old. Klug said she might run in August/September again, definitely as a 4 year old.

    I´m with Noverre.

Well, he compared Windstoß to Samum, so I’m with him to  .
I could give many more reasons why I favour Windstoß, but to be honest your style isn’t very likable, Pete.

Hein, I don’t know much about German form. But, Windstoß beat Enjoy Vijay (who is by Nathaniel) in the Derby over 1m4f. I’m willing to forgive Enjoy Vijay’s subsequent runs which were over an inadequate 1m2f. In the Munich G1 race he was held up in rear and arrived very late then in the Hannover race, which was an extremely slow 5-runner affair, once again he had no chance over 1m2f that was run at a crawl.
Given the fact that Windstoß still has a lot of improvement in him, I would take him at 7/2 rather than Iquitos at 2/1 who won a very weak Grosser Preis last year.
    But, that’s only an opinion.

Spot on Ruby, that’s quite close to some of my thoughts ;-) :good: .
It’s not Windstoß’ fault that he only beat horses like EV so far, but he showed some outstanding qualities in his races and I see him highly progressive, particularly from his breeding.
Iquitos has already shown every card, and to my eyes that was not much.
You are so right, last years Baden GP was more of a Gr3.
On top Windstoß will have by far the best jockey up.

And don’t be to modest Ruby, you know more about German form than some others  .

    Good morning guys,

some nice opinions here. Just to clarify, i dont compare Windstoß and Samum and dont think that he is just as good as Samum. Maybe i`m wrong and he developes into a real Grade 1 horse. We will see after the race, especially if the british send over a strong yardstick.

It`s very unlikely that Lacazar will turn up here, her prefered target is the Prix Vermeille a week later.

This sunday we have the “Goldene Peitsche” Grade 2 over 6f, surprisingly no british horse turns up here…so please have a look at the 100K Auctions Race for 2yos over 6f.

There are Emilia James(M.Johnston/Joe Fanning) and Folklore(I.Gansera-Leveque/Adam Beschizza), what can we think of them?

I don’t know what to make of the Goldene Peitsche.
I find this field quite disappointing for a Gr2, and bettingwise I will leave it alone.
Okay, then you just brought up your youth memories ;-) .

FYI Lacazar not in the Vermeille. Dschingis Secret only German horse in the Arc trials.

Savoir Vivre running in the Deauville on Sunday takes him out of Baden-Baden. Doesn´t look like it will be much of a field.

    The big race is here.

Gotta say the two year old fillies look very good: Narella, Auenperle and Rock my Love. I was certain I´d bet on Rock my Love for the Winterkonigin until an hour ago. For Narella, Reliable Man out of a Monsun mare, to win this easily over 7f twice against very good opposition is a pretty exciting prospect.

Guignol wins easily from Iquitos, Colomano, Windstoss and the shitty Godolphin horses. ;)
