25s into 4s AM I BLUE under Johnson, never in doubt.
I only got 5s but it had no form whatsoever
Tailed off last 3 starts.Even Chapmans saying how can punters win at this game
September 1, 2010 at 14:39 #315385I love Dilys the trainer. What a character. Treated the horses back since last time and took Richards advice to ride from the front. Outstanding

Lets be serious for a minute, no top punter will even look at below class 4 unless they have info so I dont know.
September 1, 2010 at 14:44 #315387I think Scotney’s boys require some spinal therapy after that one.
Buffham’s diagnosis was right – a distinct lack of backbone.

September 1, 2010 at 15:08 #315393I was under the impression that a conditional jockey could not be substituted for matters of ill health and injury other than by a jockey of similar standing.
However, my attempts at establishing this by searching the BHA’s "user friendly" rule book drew a blank for a number of different search criteria.

Does anyone know if such a rule exists?
September 1, 2010 at 15:13 #315394Can someone please clear up exactly what the controversy is about this race?
I realise a huge gamble was landed and Am I Blue won by 19 lengths but what exactly is this issue? Is there some sort of enquiry taking place?
Thanks.
September 1, 2010 at 15:20 #315395Delyth thinking that the jockey change may have been the reason for the money was a lovely touch.

Nah you’re alright, cya later.
September 1, 2010 at 15:21 #315398In it’s last few races it’s finished tailed off and today it’s led all the way and it was never in doubt, that’s the issue.
September 1, 2010 at 15:22 #315399As I understand it (and I have not been following events through the day), the horse was punted on long before it was announced that the 5-lb conditional declared to ride it was too unwell to ride and was replaced late on by Richard Johnson, after which the gamble continued.
According to one report, the "unwell" conditional jockey was seen at the paddock before the race. The horse was ridden from the front, in stark contrast to previously, and won.
The trainer subsequently said that the horse had been treated for a shoulder ailment but changed that to a spinal problem when reporting to the stewards.
No idea if the situation is being enquired into going forward. But it should be, imo.
September 1, 2010 at 15:26 #315400Thanks for that.
I’m definitely no expert but it amazes me how races like that are possible.
I’ll keep an eye on this (especially as I was on Northern Lad!).

27Mar10 Banger – Led
06Feb10 Wetherby – Chased Leaders
30Nov09 Fakenham – Chased Leaders
07Aug09 Lingfield – Prominant
12Jun09 Goodwood – Tracked leadersThis doesn’t suggest that the front running tactics have never been used before as stated.
Its previous best form was when Richard Johnson rode it for Tim Vaughan, all in the form book just some people miss things more than others.
3 runs since June for new trainer with a bad injury surely the right thing to do is race it in the rear to risk getting injured or racing at a pace that could cause too much stress to the joints.
September 1, 2010 at 15:37 #315405From the racing post:
Stewards satisfied
The stewards have accepted Am I Blue trainer Delyth Thomas’s explanation that the improvement in the horse’s form had been brought about by a change of tactics and some spinal therapy and decided not to hold an inquiry.
September 1, 2010 at 15:42 #315406Amazing….

I could name you a few conditional/apprentice jockeys who are better than a number of fully fledged ones.
