January 24, 2009 at 06:22 #206168Hmmmm,
Not sure if I think this thread is a good idea or not. I do wish Fist would do his own thread. But for another person to do it….
Seems in poor taste to me.
And how can you tell if Fist backed them or not?
You might think from what he wrote before the race he backed Calgary Bay "hack canter", but afterwards he said the price was too big so did not back it.
Still, will be interesting anyway Carv.
Not sure I would’ve got away with it.

Value Is EverythingJanuary 24, 2009 at 13:01 #206176I don’t think anyone would get away with it that wasn’t an old timer on here and in the palsy walsy club. If a new member did that his feet wouldn’t touch the ground.
As David seems to think it’s ok for a poster to single out another in a poor effort to mock him the so be it. I would have thought you wouldn’t need send me a PM to ask.
With little protection against such ignorant posters than it’s up to me to defend myself. I’m a big boy and with som thought I’m sure I can come up with a suitable response which should be fun
.I had a quick look though carvs list and immedately noticed a few missing like Sizing Europe who I backed earlier in the week. Also my ante post bets were mentioned nor the bets I had on Sunnyhillboy 7/1 and Witchita Lining that wasn’t for 1000 baht I can assure you.
Binocular 10/11 was my biggest bet of the season until Cheltenham when I has more on Master Minded 11/4 I put 50% of those winnings on Zarkava 7/1 which to date was the biggest bet I had in my life. 30 % of those winning are now riding on Kauto Star EW 7/1-5/1 Binocular EW 25/1 to 8/1 and Master Minded at 6/4. 50% of the winninghave a lready been putto gooduse and the
EW bets with good returns if they win on Calgary Bay 40/1 and Kicking King 25/1 What A Friend 14/1 Hurrican Fly 7/1 Ebadiyan 14/1
Compare those to current prices and judge for yourselves if you think I know what I am doing or not.
Other members may notice most of my posts are made in the Cheltenham and Big Race sections………….it’s pretty obvious most of my big bets are in Grade1 and not in handicap races unless I have good info on a certain horse. I certainly don’t back to a level single stake and never have.
CARV: If this is how you want to spend your time son then go ahead.
I’m sorry if the fact I have taken a little bit of your limelight away bugs you.You attacked me out of the blue here a few months ago because of the following posts:
Rory: Nice trial from Character Building over timber sees him a best priced 8/1 for the race. I hope you had a bob or two pre the publishing of the weights FoF.
Fist: If I say I did Rory some one is sure to bite my head off
I backed him EW mate but won’t win much if he wins. Reason being I have bet another horse which may cause a ripple or two on hereI took 20/1 about Don’t Push It at the same time and he is and always has been my main bet for the race. I am taking the gamble he comes right, the ground suits and Jonjo will send him. He is adamant the horse needs further than 2m4f and shouldn’t be too harshly treated.
Grasshopper: My chin will hit the deck if he stays anything like 3m, let alone 3m 2f
Fist: Really…….I think he’s a stone wall certainty to get 3 miles.
He was running on like a tiger when getting up close home against Mr Pointment over 2m5f at Cheltenham in soft ground. Surely on his favoured good ground you would expect him to have an excellent chance of getting 3 miles over fences?CARV: Fist, you are making a bigger fool of yourself every day that passes on here. You were tolerable last year because you had the nous to realise that there is more knowledge on here than you possess. FFS have the cop on to use this site to learn a bit and not to make yourself look a complete tit, which you are doing to good effect at present.
Fist: He stayed at Aintree. He must have as he only got home yesterday. Laughing

Totally out of order Carv……..can’t believe your attitude mate……never said a bad word to you even if I thought you were wrong.
FFS lighten up and think before you type….Why on earth would Jonjo waste time and money entering him for athe Hennessy if he thought the horse had no chance of staying?
You’re a big hit for yourselves if you think you know more about a horse than the man who trains him. That’s all I have to say other than you can bet your life Jonjo intends trying him over 3 miles this season.
That’s the post that led to this…..how wrong you were then and how wrong you are now. Oh guess what Carv he did run him over 3 miles three times and he stays every bit of it ………and guess who never mentioned it again or rubbed it down your throat when he did?
We can all dig up each others posts and make a fool of each other.
My bet is Corm will delete this now as it makes you look like a spoilt little boy who can’t see green cheese going past him and we can’t have that can we? I would prefer it was left up to show people what kind of person you are if they don’t already know.
January 24, 2009 at 15:09 #206199I had to start somewhere, so decided that the beginning of the jumps season was the obvious place. Hence ante-post bets from last year aren’t included. Sizing Europe is there. Didn’t see Sunnyhillboy, will have a look back. I’m only counting those in the big race section as other threads are too hard to retrieve. I have no way of telling what your bet size is.
Feel free at any time to take over the thread as your own, then we’ll get the real story. The reason for the thread is an invitation I made to you a while ago to start a thread on here for the NH season. If you remember I offered you a monkey (500 sterling ) if you finished in front to the end of the season. With a few minor conditions, that offer still stands.
Where I’m coming from really is that FOF posts in great volume in the big race section. I’m just interested to know if his opinion is actually worth listening to. To my mind, that’s best ascertained by keeping track of his selections over a period and level stakes is the fairest way IMO.
On the Don’t Push It issue, my post referred to his chances of winning a Hennessy (nil) not whether he’d stay 3 miles, which I did clarify later.January 24, 2009 at 15:20 #206200Cleeve Hurdle

January 24, 2009 at 16:14 #206217.I’m a bit confused about what you are doing and wonder why you think I had 1000 baht (for talking sake) on all those selections.
1000 Baht onTidal Bay to beat Master Minded against 1000 Baht Kauto Star to win the King George (backed him twice for therace incidentally not once)
I must be just as stupid as you are trying to make me look.
Trust me when I tell you this. I’m having a good laugh at this thread and you wouldn’t have a clue how much I have on each horse I mention unless I told you.
Please continue though Carv you are doing a wonderful job

In your early days on the forum, you had a tendency, deliberate or not, to give the impression that you were contemptuous of the opinion of anyone who disagreed with you. This was never going to go down well with the fairly large number of forumites who also know what they are talking about.
You appear to have mellowed a little over the months or perhaps changed your style a little and there is no doubt that you bring enthusiasm and instigate debate, which are vital to any forum.
But I have to say, as someone who is definitely an amateur, there are other forumites who’s opinions I would rate more highly than your own. Apracing is one and Carvillshill another – for the simple reason that they have proven that they know what they are talking about. Their successes and failures are a matter of public record.
If you were to barge into a group of people chatting at a racecourse, declare yourself an expert and then proceed to rubbish any suggestion they made, you might expect one or two of them to take against you, at least initially. I think this is what happened in your early days on the forum and perhaps some of that dislike is lingering.
Still, having said that, I’m not sure this thread should be a particularly long-lived one.

January 25, 2009 at 04:22 #206373Having given the matter a fair bit of thought I would agree that it is not really fair to single out Fist of Fury in this way, however tempting it may be to do so.
I think Carvills, you have made your point.
