“The Derby Arms (and the Rubbing House) is bookings-only today, too.”
Thanks Glad, I thought as much.
The Derby Arms used to be OK but it got so busy that I gave up going there on Derby Day.
I only went to the Rubbing House once, after the August Bank Holiday meeting. They tried to short change me twice and I never went there again!
June 7, 2025 at 12:28 #1732336Stanhope Gardens 16-1
Pride Of Arras 9-2The more I know the less I understand.
June 7, 2025 at 12:34 #1732344Two for me this year with Stanhope Gardens 20-1, and Tennessee Stud 40-1 ew 4plcs
June 7, 2025 at 12:35 #1732345Added Pride Of Arras after rewatching the Dante. He was impressive there and a reproduction of that effort has to see him go close, especially if the rain stays away (which is beginning to look likely).
June 7, 2025 at 12:39 #1732349Stanhope Gardens looks a bit over-priced I think at 20/1. Close to Delacroix last year and perfectly fair reappearance. But it looks an open renewal. I’m intrigued to see how The Lion In Winter runs, definitely not ready at York and will be a LOT better today BUT he’s been binned by Moore which is a big negative I think.
June 7, 2025 at 12:45 #17323549/4 hardly represents value in a field this size with so much deadwood
So it’s two against the field for me for the interest
Ruling Court 8/1
The Lion in Winter 9/1
That Cape Cross input may help RC if its easy and he may just take to Epsom like he took to Sandown on his debut. Clear stamina doubts more than covered in the 8/1
At least Lordan isn’t riding the Lion!
June 7, 2025 at 12:48 #1732355An intriguing race as always from a punting perspective.
I could see any of the top three winning impressively, but at 18–1 I’m with Stanhope Gardens each-way.
That form with Delacroix looks good, and the trainer is absolutely top-drawer these days.
My tip in the race last year unseated at the start, so if mine gets round it will be an improvement.
June 7, 2025 at 12:50 #1732357Thanks for all the weather updates Glad..🌊🌊🏇

Will they run Ruling Court or not..
Shame to have come this far and not take part.
I’ve had a saver on him but have chosen 2 horses that will love the soft groundNightwalker 40/1 – EW
Love this stunning grey by Frankel, he’ll get the trip and go on the ground. Has to improve to beat some of these but he’s on the up
Good place chances.Stanhope Gardens – 22/1 (Price boost Paddy Power early morning)
By Ghaiyyath and still the Dubawi factor to consider but he must have a great chanceBest of luck..Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 7, 2025 at 12:51 #1732359Stanhope Gardens 18s
to add to my 2 antepost longshotsBest of luck to all today
June 7, 2025 at 13:04 #1732365Another front runner wins in the opening race.
June 7, 2025 at 13:05 #17323661st race today – just like yesterday’s races.
From the front, almost from the off and nothing can catch the winner.
Just seen CAS’s post
June 7, 2025 at 13:12 #1732368With almost “nill” wind and the winner seemingly allowed an easy lead…
Spiritual just came within three quarters of a second of beating Racing Post Standard.
Things could change, but the ground is imo currently not much worse than Good.
Value Is EverythingJune 7, 2025 at 13:28 #1732377William Buick is “not happy” with how conditions are after the opening race.
Buick, who rode Royal Dress in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes, called it good to soft.June 7, 2025 at 13:33 #1732378Bit strange Both Gosden and Havlin saying they believe Nightwalker won’t like a soft surface. Granted his only previous victory was on a firmish surface, but that was only a maiden. But far better form – his best two year old performance – was a 4 1/4 lengths 3rd to Delacroix and Stanhope Gardens in the Autumn Stakes.
Is this another example of connections finding excuses whenever a horse loses and having an elevated opinion of any victory purely because they’re elated to win?
Value Is EverythingJune 7, 2025 at 13:39 #1732379Winner in 2nd race comes from last to first for a change.

Buick, who rode Royal Dress in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes, called it good to soft”.As I said, “not much worse than good”. Neither of today’s races has seemed to be strongly run and yet both are pretty close to Racing Post Standard. That would be impossible if it were Good-Soft verging on soft. I’d say right now it is between Good and Good-soft.
