Don’t think the race will tell us much. I’d wait till first run of 3yo career before looking at a potential Derby winner.
October 22, 2016 at 16:48 #1268229Boyles still going 33’s SJL. Fancy this one quite a bit after todays events.
October 31, 2016 at 13:04 #1269726I feel CAPRI ran ok even though was 3rd had to make challenge from the outside because the nearside rail was place to be and think he develop over the winter and i not rule him out.
I agree with you Botchy in that i feel CRACKSMAN is a darkhorse he in my list as horses to look out for next year.Full list in 2yo sumarry thread soon
October 31, 2016 at 18:54 #1269827i really like CRACKSMAN and ATTY PEERSE. im still not syre about what a obrien got. theres nothing im getting excited about. thats how open i think next years derby is. might not have seen the derby winner yet.
could be an unraced colt we not seen yetDecember 13, 2016 at 14:49 #1277025Out of horses who not won yet i think VENICE BEACH looks intresting was 2nd on debut finish race very strong he did can see him winning a trail before going to Epsom.
January 27, 2017 at 11:35 #1283975I’d not looked at the Derby in-depth at all…until last night. I got bored lol.
So, I applied some very simple Derby trends of mine and got the following ‘watchlist’. I did this very quickly so a couple might have fallen through the cracks for the time being;
Atty Persse 40s
Crystal Ocean – unsure as to the family’s effectiveness as a 3yo. 40s
Devamani NA
Franz Schubert NA
Mirage Dancer 33s
Pharaonic NA
Sir John Lavery – slight concern about his foaling date. Also worried about the quality of horse the dam side produces. 20s
Waldgeist 20sA few others I’ll just mention…Escobar (his dad didn’t win a Group 1 though), Pealer (I’d be surprised if Campanologist could sire an Epsom Derby winner), Titus and Venice Beach (not sure either of them are really top quality but they fit the trends).
I’m on Cracksman at 33s already. Very simple reason why he’s not on the shortlist…he’s not entered. I was just working off the RP’s entries. Obviously he can be supplemented.
Churchill does meet all the trends but I’ve just removed him as I just don’t think he’ll stay.

Phew…Thankfully you haven’t mentioned the winner amongst that lot.

January 27, 2017 at 18:30 #1284043Titus would be one that interests me for Dermot Weld. He won on debut although the time wasn’t great, but has a big frame and can only improve this year. Being an end of season maiden the form hasn’t been tested but Venice Beach for O’Brien is prominent in the betting also. Sired by Dansili whose progeny of course includes strong stayer Harbinger so should get the trip. Currently available at 33s.
February 8, 2017 at 12:55 #1286451Zarkava Gord likes Tartini i see him more leger horse myself i do what you think of him
February 8, 2017 at 14:07 #1286455Leger

Did I tell you that Darren did I? ..Tartini won a maiden at lowly Nottingham.Derby winners dont do that do they Darren? His half brother ‘Lucarno’ ran 4th in the Derby and went on to win the St Leger,he was a son of the monstrous and enigmatic ‘Dynaformer’ a son of ‘Roberto’ himself.’Tartini’ is a ‘Giants Causeway’ colt who looks much more like his sire,he certainly showed that will to win his Father had in bundles.Having seen him in the paddock he is a colt who will develop physically this winter and even though he’s not even entered in the Derby, neither was ‘Golden Horn’.I expect ‘Tartini’ to re-appear at York and then be supplemented for Epsom. He wont be a St leger horse because he’ll have won the King George by then and be 3/1 fav for the Arc…You do make me laugh Darren.
February 8, 2017 at 16:42 #1286476If Gosden has a derby horse i think it be CRACKSMAN i do Gord.
Good luck with Tartini mate but more leger for me

Good man,you are a good judge Darren you are pal.
February 9, 2017 at 19:29 #1286597As no one has mentioned it I’m happy to be the laughing stock. I backed Eminent each way for a couple of quid. You’ll Be Mine wasn’t a world beater and her first foal As Good as Gold isn’t great but she was well thought of and I was visually impressed, so chucked a couple of pounds at him. Be more confident of a run from a bigger trainer though.
February 10, 2017 at 18:44 #1286678Form’s pretty rubbish but he ticks all the major trends
February 11, 2017 at 00:49 #1286775Venice Beach might be a good play for the derby
related to an arc winner and the way it stayed on in it’s maiden suggests to me it could be high in the pecking order in the O’Brien stable, in terms of what horses they’re going to be aiming at the big race
