That’s put a different slant on things, Drone. Wouldn’t bother me much if most of that went. I don’t get out much
September 25, 2020 at 17:36 #1503365Sorry drone but that’s nonsense both economically and socially
September 25, 2020 at 17:47 #1503368There is no reason at all why arts and sports should not be bailed out like other industries. Stating that some are “essential” and some are seemingly frivolous is nonsense. They maintain massive employment and whilst I am far from in favour of unnecessary government involvement as a habit or for reasons of control, this makes sense
It’s Keynesian economics of course but with borrowing rates virtually zero there is no likely pressure on wider economic factors such as inflation
And who draws the line at what in necessary or isn’t? It should revolve around the economic activity it creates not whether someone likes it or not
Lastly it is simply fair. This crisis is not the fault of sport or arts in the slightest.
September 25, 2020 at 19:47 #1503395Agree Clive. I believe the arts and sport are essential. Aside from the jobs they create, they give us enjoyment and are good for our mental health and wellbeing. It would be a dull world without them. People do not just want to exist, they want to live.
I notice that John Gosden has said there should be no hand outs or subsidies. Easy for him to say when he has the patronage of wealthy owners and a stable full of blue bloods.
September 25, 2020 at 19:57 #1503398Well put on both points
