This thread is to allow all those who reckon that horses are being backed as though defeat is out of the question, and who believe that such occasions are an everyday occurence and are easy to spot, to highlight these occasions. I’m fed up of reading about them AFTER the event.
The only rule, therefore, is that you need to post here BEFORE the race off time.
NO AFTERTIMING!!
December 4, 2008 at 12:38 #194223It’s not going to happen, is it, Corm?
The people who spot these are too busy beavering away on Betfair to take the time off to post on here.

December 4, 2008 at 15:08 #194248You could well be right SB.
December 4, 2008 at 15:58 #194260Persevere with this one I’d say. I tend to spot one or two a week and will post them here next time.
December 4, 2008 at 16:07 #194262I hope no-one is going to suggest that if a race is flagged up and nothing untoward happens (the drifter might even win) then dodgy betting patterns are a myth. None of us has a behind-the-scenes view of what is going on, whereas the BHA employ specialists to do just that. There are bound to be a few mistaken calls from where we are sitting. I would see them as an alert before the event rather than a definitive statement on the matter.
December 4, 2008 at 16:55 #194269Surely dodgy betting moves are only applicable in conjunction with a poor or suspicious ride?
There´s nothing shady about a fav drifting, only if the fav drifts and is then anchored in rear while the jockey sits motionless for 2 circuits.

So is a horse who is usually dropped out always a non-trier when it drifts?
If dodgy betting moves only count when there is a suspicious ride:
Then if most drifting favs run a fair race and only the odd one gets a poor ride, doesn’t that suggest these "suspicious rides" are just a coincidence? How many poor rides happen when there are no dodgy betting moves?
How many dodgy betting moves happen without poor rides?Taking these last two questions in to account it is highly likely that when they coincide it is (usually) mere coincidence.
Admire you for trying with this thread Corm, but I don’t think there’ll be many takers. Aftertiming is what conspiracy teorists rely on.

The Ginger PreacherValue Is EverythingDecember 5, 2008 at 19:09 #194617Maybe not what you had in mind Corm, but I’m very suspicious about punters plunging on a thief like Barber’s Shop in the 2.35 at Sandown….
December 5, 2008 at 19:25 #194624Gallantry out to 20’s on the machine. Any chance he’ll miss the break again today?
December 5, 2008 at 19:31 #194626Think I’ll stick to aftertiming.

Ajara is 11/1 from 4/1 for a yard who don’t mind a gamble (Nicky Vaughan) in Wolvo’s 7.50.
Now back into 9/1.
Only interesting as I backed it when it was up at 4s.

And it wins!
Sorry – was this supposed to be a ‘tip a drifter to win’ thred?

It would appear that way, halwaytoheaven

I’m just hoping the 4/1 I scribbled on my slip isn’t noticed!
Still seems a rather odd drift for, as I say, a yard who don’t mind putting their money down. It’s not as though the front two were only just ahead of the rest of the field, Ajara having been on the pace throughout (rather than held up as he was on debut).

December 7, 2008 at 19:37 #195176……and that’s why you should always take the value.
