I think with Sublimity a lot depends on how the race pans out. If it’s a nice even pace and he can travel well within himself then he has the toe to beat the best of them and could very well win it again.
If on the other hand something sets a very strong pace and Solwhit takes over early and makes it areal test of Stamina then I would have severe doubts about Sublimity getting to him.
His trainer stated recently he needs a strong gallop. Probably still got Hardy Eustace leading him round in the Champion Hurdle in his head.
Last year the race was run to suit. Hardy Eustace set no more than an average pace, Brave Inca according to Ruby blew up 3 out Sizing Europe went from cantering to floundering and That left Sublimity who cruised past them to beat Won in the Dark
Ruby’s comments proved to be correct when they met again in the Toshiba Champion Hurdle. In the race itself Allez Petit Luis set of like a bat out of hell and after the 4th last first Hardy Eustace took over but very quickly Ruby sent Brave Inca to the front increased the pace to try and burn off his rivals. Turning for home Sublimity, who had been on the bridle, was already showing signs that he wasn’t travelling too well and approaching the last his stamina gave out completely and he trailed in almost 20 lengths behind in 4th.
In the Champion Hurdle where the pace is electrifying again he came there 3 out on the bridle and went out like a light.
The horse simply doesn’t stay 2 miles in a true run race
and the best advice I could give anyone who wants to back him is do so in running with Betfair. If the pace is steady you back him if the go off at a rate of knotts and Solwhit is sitting in the first 3 ready to take over don’t touch Sublimity with a barge pole.
or you could just stick a few quid on and pray he wins
December 23, 2009 at 21:29 #265197Such a shame for Hurricane Fly and connections.
Suspensory ligament injuries are very bad, obviously any injury is bad, but injuring a Suspensory ligament can be a career threatening injury.
I just hope we see him back on a racecourse again.
He will definitely miss the festival too in March, there is no way he will recover from such injury and be fit in 3 months, not a chance.
December 23, 2009 at 22:34 #265206Jumbo Rio is the one that would interest me now given that Hurricane Fly is sadly out and the rest of the field is likely to cut up. Murphy is supposedly leaning towards the Listed Mares Hurdle with VLV.
December 23, 2009 at 23:13 #265220I put up Jumbo today at 14/1 and that seems to be going. His French form isn’t too shabby and he’ll like the speed test this race is likely to be. Has it on to beat Solwhit but far too big each way.

December 25, 2009 at 12:25 #265453I have a funny feeling Sublimity might well win this again. Solwhit is a classy individual but is the wrong price now and I had preferred Hurricane Fly before he was sadly withdrawn with an injury.
Robbie Hennessy states that he has Sublimity in fantastic condition in preparation for this and a repeat of his run last year should be enough here.
I like Jumbo Rio but think his French form is a lot less credible than we are led to believe. He hasn’t gone up against the top notchers in his division in France. Donnas Palm interests me more as an alternative at 8/1 – could Mr Mullins strike with his ‘second string’?
The ground could be a carbon copy of last years ground and that’ll suit Sublimity down to the ground. It’s a speculative bet in fairness but 6/1 is too big for Sub to hit his best stride yet again.
1pt Sublimity @ 6/1
December 25, 2009 at 12:53 #265457I’m not sure why Donna’s Palm is trading at high odds, if he may not make the race but he will be my pick, unbeaten so far this season even if the last race was pretty farcical but aagain he showed a turn of foot and seemed to have plenty of gears, also before he went of stray last year he was the only horse to give Hurricane Fly a race.
December 26, 2009 at 14:45 #265577I wonder will Colm be tempted to run the mare here now that Go Native has won again?
The yard is flying at the moment. Winner already in the handicap at Leopardstown and Captain Cee Bee giving a big boost to Zaarito’s form.
December 28, 2009 at 20:10 #266123Even though I have a feeling that this might turn into slowly run affair, I can’t bring myself to back against Solwhit.
Everything seems to point to a Sublimity victory, but I just can’t back against Solwhit, who is the best horse in the race imo.

Well called. IT definitly all fell sublimities way in the way the race was run but solwhit is a really tough nut and has now got an outstanding chance at cheltenham.

December 29, 2009 at 18:15 #266281Yes, I thought Sub was going to do him in the straight but Solwhit stayed on well up the hill. Sublimity made a terribly mistake down the back, but I don’t think he would have passed Solwhit even if he had jumped that flight fluently.

Panned out as I thought it might….when Solhwit kicked Sublimity still looked a danger but just failed to see the out trip. Still decent form though if you consider Punjabi only just beat him.
Comes up good to soft or soft at Chelters he will take some pegging back and I’d rather be on him than Go Native if it comes to a slog up the hill.
