Still don’t know even one person who’s been touched by this in any way. Mind you, I’m having to mix even less than I normally do because according to the news, people are dropping like flies.

You are very lucky Tank to not have known anyone touched by this.
My brother in law is currently on the mend. I’ve just got off the phone to him and he is still coughing and wheezing a month on. He is in his 50’s and pretty fit, working from home since March, only goes out for a run or to the shop and always wears a mask and careful with hand hygiene and still caught it.
The hospital in Taunton is over flowing with it too. Operations are being cancelled as operating rooms are being used for more patients in critical need.
I’ve had the 1st jab but am still shielding and will do so until the numbers on infection rates etc go down.

I indirectly know (friends or friends of friends of my parents) three people who have got or had the virus, one died.

Please delete posts that could be offensive to anyone who’s lost a close family member, Tank.

Those who don’t believe the Covid figures should look at 2020 excess deaths. Difference between 2020 overall deaths and preceding years.

To be honest Tank, I’ve had to bite my tongue on this thread, if for no
other reason to keep my blood pressure down. I have 2 sons, one in Bavaria
which is the hub of Corona virus in Germany, the other in London, the hub of
Corona virus in England. Fortunately my son in Germany has escaped so far with
Bavaria having greater periods of lockdown. My son in England has not been so
lucky and caught the virus last March. He was very unwell for the best part of
5 months, and although he has improved greatly he still has irritation in his
chest. He was 39, very fit and had no existing medical problems when he caught
the virus. I’m retired now, but recently heard that one of my colleagues, who
was out climbing Munros one week, caught the virus the following week, and was
    dead within a further week.

You are entitled to your opinion, as I am entitled to mine. My opinion is that
anyone who believes this is a massive conspiracy, and some kind of hoax, which
would have to be orchestrated by all politicians, medical staff of all levels,
TV, broadsheet and tabloid reporting, on behalf of some shadowy collective needs
to give themselves a good shake.

You linked to an interview with “an expert”, a GP in Canada who went to great
lengths to explain how this was no more than a drummed up pandemic no worse than
any other common virus that has been dealt with annually. From memory I belive
he gave reasons for the vacine which included, killing people or in some way using
it for surveilance. Really!!, do you actually believe that?. I think your Gp, as
probably having to go to Canada to find such an “expert” perhaps suggest, is a
complete idiot. He is peddling much the same as David Icke, who some time back
proclaimed himself as the son of God, and believed by wearing torquoise that it
    did, I don’t know….something?

The world wide death toll, and it’s nowhere near finished, is over 2 million
people. To be honest, I don’t know how much of that stuff you truly believe
and how much is just black humour, either way I think it’s severely missguided.
I hope that you and your family continue to stay well.

I friend of mine died on the 31/05/2020.

She went into hospital for treatment and unfortunately contracted “Covid19” there and died there.

I trust that nobody thinks that I think that Covid is a hoax!

I am lucky, Nathan, as I’m not seeing any suffering in this backwater that I call home.

Can’t see any of my posts that should be deleted, Ginge.

Best wishes to all that are suffering or those that know them. Probably best if I don’t post anything else on this thread as some people are getting a bit emotional :rose:

The trouble is that you’re talking absolute bollocks, at best you’re downplaying the seriousness of it.

Beyond a couple of people at work whose family members had seemingly mild cases of it and are thankfully fine, I haven’t been affected either. That doesn’t mean I don’t believe in it or that I think it’s exaggerated.

You’re entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. I find it strange how the odd crackpot doctor who backs up the view that it’s all made up is accepted by the sceptics as gospel but the millions of experts worldwide who say otherwise should be questioned.

Glastonbury Festival already cancelled – that’s not a great omen.

Mind you, I never back any winners at that meeting and the viewing even on TV is awful – I can’t even see the races.

Richard, do not equate people who think it is a hoax with lockdown sceptics. They are not the same.

although I’m unlucky as high risk to covid
I can’t help feel really sorry for those who have lost employment, businesses’ etc

The reason that Honk Kong has had so few infections and deaths from Covid compared to similar social distancing / healthcare countries like China,Singapore,S.Korea Germany, Italy, and Spain, has been the adoption of universal mask wearing in and outdoors, and its strict adherence. When samples of 10,000 were looked at the non-compliance rate was 3.5% Compare that to my recent counted studies in the local park( circa 500 sample ) with a non compliance rate of 92%. The cluster outbreaks in Hong Kong were found to have originated in mask off indoor settings – restaurant’s, bars, kareoke events and gymnasiums.

I found out yesterday that two good friends of mine are both self isolating with symptoms. One is a nurse who has extreme lethargy, headache, fever, and restricted breathing (she is in bed)and feels she caught it from a lady patient she was treating last Thursday. ( She was not even treating Covid patients – but had been in the first wave. Her husband has similar symptoms but is less affected.

Point is though CAS, in some ways lockdown sceptics are just as bad as people thinking Covid a hoax.

Even if they themselves say they’re keeping to the rules… the more people thinking lockdowns don’t work encourages more to think the same… And the more people there are thinking lockdowns don’t work the more people will think what’s the point of following lockdown rules if they don’t work.

The more people expressing the view masks don’t work the more people won’t wear masks. etc.
The more people expressing the view vaccines are dangerous, the more won’t have it. etc
…And therefore the more people will get the virus.

Where is the evidence that lockdowns work? They are an almost unprecedented experiment and the burden of proof is on their advocates.

And it cannot be ignored they have a considerable downside – socially, educationally, emotionally and mentally. And that is before considering the economic cost.

Lockdown sceptics are not denying there is a virus and that it is a danger, especially to the over 80 age group (both my parents are). What they are saying is we have to weigh up the pros and cons. How would you feel about lockdowns if you had lost your job or seen your business go under? Or if you are a student having their expensive education ruined and seeing your career prospects go up in smoke? And it looks clear that lockdowns hurt the poor far more than the rich.

There are no easy answers here. We should be sensitive to people who have suffered the pain of loss. But we also need to understand that people are struggling as well. I really do think some lockdown supporters are very insensitive on this point.

We can all agree these are grim times. Thank goodness the racing is still on to shine a bit of light in the gloom.

Look if people kept 2 metres apart and wore masks diligenty and properly inside and outside ( as per my Hong Kong post ) then lockdowns should only be needed when Sars-2 Covid variants broke the rules
