I was doubting his flat ability at this age, but I’d like to see him take another step and run in some sort of Handicap, Conditions or even Listed race. He settled fine today and WILL COME ON FOR THE RUN. Even though it was just a Maiden, he couldn’t do more than winning in style. He did that 100%….
February 20, 2026 at 20:07 #1755425Campaign him similar to how Haggas has done with Hamish and Constitution Hill could still have a lot of success on the flat even at 9yo.
What a shame Nicky didn’t have the balls to try him earlier.February 20, 2026 at 20:08 #1755426I’d love to see him in the Sagaro Stakes next.
February 20, 2026 at 20:08 #1755427Ruby he got up the hill in the festival and Skelton has already stated the international was a teaching job , that makes perfect sense , he isn’t going to win the Champion on the bit , if he gets in a war with TNL then there only winner

February 20, 2026 at 20:09 #1755428To be fair he did all he could do and Its great to see he hasnt completely fallen out of love with the game. I just think and in fairness this is more aimed at the wider discussion outside this forum, its largely a race of NH trainers tonight. No classic generation to give weight to. No Godolphin, Shadwell, Juddmonte, Aidan O’Brien etc…. just a bit of perspective needed probably for those lofty targets if they are even targets.
February 20, 2026 at 20:10 #1755430Quotes from Michael Buckley on ATR
“I love the horse to death”“It’s been a nightmare these last twelve month”
“Be so uncertain about his jumping”
“At least he didn’t have any to jump and he was pretty damn good”He also said something along the lines of being an easier watch, so should they swerve Cheltenham, based on this?
February 20, 2026 at 20:11 #1755431Hopefully Cobden replaces De Boinville and he will jump safely at Cheltenham and win.
February 20, 2026 at 20:11 #1755432HDLG, it is a bold prediction to have CH and TNL in a war for the Champion Hurdle. Both of them have huge jumping issues, especially on faster spring ground.
February 20, 2026 at 20:13 #1755433No Godolphin, Shadwell, Juddmonte, Aidan O’Brien etc…. just a bit of perspective needed probably for those lofty targets if they are even targets.
That’s true, but we know the horse has the ability and will come on for the run. Gladders suggested the Sagaro Stakes next, sounds okay to me. Then move on again….
February 20, 2026 at 20:16 #1755435TNL doesn’t have an issue , he’s fell once , unbeaten apart from this ….

February 20, 2026 at 20:17 #1755436I admire your confidence, HDLG.
February 20, 2026 at 20:19 #1755437I think people forget how snug he won this , I’m not a bridle horse man , never have been , I want a horse that fights ..

February 20, 2026 at 20:19 #1755438I would forget the Champion Hurdle this year. Sea Pigeon won it as a 10 & 11 year old so he still has time. He needs a less high profile race to show he can jump again.
Have a flat campaign this summer. I would go for the Ormonde Stakes at Chester’s May meeting. A number of older horses such as Hamish have targeted this race over 1 mile 5 furlongs.
Then have a go at Royal Ascot in the Hardwicke Stakes or a crack at the Gold Cup. Depending how that went perhaps aim for the King George?
Forget the Melbourne Cup. He’ll fail the Vet checks with them!
February 20, 2026 at 20:21 #1755439Its a good point regards the vets and Australia actually
February 20, 2026 at 20:22 #1755440You do realise that posting that clip just reminds people of how crap that race was, right, HDLG? The Yellow Clay has done sod all this season, while Final Demand is just a flat-track bully.
February 20, 2026 at 20:23 #1755442What made the difference today was a globe-trotting champion jockey aboard who was able to settle the horse and give him the confidence needed to run in 6th position throughout the race and not worry about the kick-back or the crowd’s roar.
Oisin and Nico, though riding under different codes, are worlds apart.
February 20, 2026 at 20:24 #1755443Glad was there a Yellow Clay at Southwell tonight …
