You do realise that posting that clip just reminds people of how crap that race was, right, HDLG? The Yellow Clay has done sod all this season, while Final Demand is just a flat-track bully.
You forgot to mention that TNL dived at that final hurdle, which just proves how prone he is to errors.
February 20, 2026 at 20:25 #1755445I’m guessing page 162 by midnight ….

February 20, 2026 at 20:27 #1755449Tough call for them anyway regarding Cheltenham. Its a very winnable champ hurdle but the worst case scenario is the very worst case sadly. I’d like to think if theres any doubt at all in their minds they give it a swerve and hes only lining up if they are as convinced as they can be.
February 20, 2026 at 20:27 #1755451225 by the time he retires

February 20, 2026 at 20:28 #1755453250 by the time Ian Davies comes back.
February 20, 2026 at 20:29 #1755455A flat career seems the obvious route now after that – Murphy’s comment of ‘I dropped him in because I wanted him to learn what it is like to be in amongst horses in a flat race as a black type race would be the obvious next target if his next race was on the flat’ is telling.
He seemed to have no trouble with the faster than optimal first few furlongs and while the pace slowed mid race he still picked up best and clocked under 12s for each of his last 3F, hitting a top speed of 39.95mph and a finishing percentage of 109.72. One might argue that a even stronger run race would play even more to his strengths as the further he went the better he looked.
If he had not already won a Champion Hurdle then you might be tempted to go back hurdling but going forward I would rather connections be of the mindset of thinking what might have happened if we went back to hurdling rather than, we should have never risked going back to hurdling. As I have said before you can’t keep challenging the law of averages…….three heavy falls have resulted in no serious injuries other than being stiff and sore for a few days but if you keep pushing it………
There are plenty of options available to him at 12F, 14F & 16F range in either group or handicap races and until he shows he is not of that standard then you would be silly not to at least give it a go. Fast ground in mid summer might be a bit of a worry (he did change his legs a couple of times once hitting the front) but he has a rather fluent action and with watering policies being what they are you would probably be ok on quicker going.
Lets also not forget that there are a lot of weaker groups races dotted around (Germany in particular) that don’t take as much winning so this performance has opened up a whole lot of new doors for him going forward.
February 20, 2026 at 20:30 #1755457Come on, let’s be positive about the Hill. He proved some of us (including me) wrong and did a lot of things right. I hope they stick to Flat racing with him.
February 20, 2026 at 20:31 #1755458I’ll think they’ll find Davies hanging in a cupboard over the weekend , belt around his neck , choked on a chocolate hobnob with the Southwell race on constant replay …
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 20, 2026 at 20:31 #1755459He was handicapped to win based on his hurdles form, and glad he did on the provisio that they stick to some flat races and not risk him over hurdles that he can no longer jump properly.
February 20, 2026 at 20:32 #1755460He couldn’t have done more right , just please don’t go to Cheltenham , what we do now have is nearly 2 weeks of will be won’t he…

Errrr… it wasn’t a handicap. 🤔
February 20, 2026 at 20:43 #1755464Did Nicky say he is not a Summer flat horse? Does that not rule out most of the big flat races?
February 20, 2026 at 20:47 #1755467Some performance. I enjoyed that.
