I suppose anyone can miss a penalty – but when you faff about on the run up, the keeper goes the wrong way and you still miss, it does make you look a bit of a fool.

England blew it; favourable draw, home games, early goal. But once I heard the commentator describe Declan Rice as a Rolls Royce I knew England had no chance. Italy ultimately had more grit

Robbo possession means little
England were 1-0 up after 2 mins and were happy to let Italy have possession and defend their lead which led to conceding more shots
those stats just paper out the way the game went because England were happy to defend a lead instead of attack for a second
Italy were better to be fair but not by muchLoad of rubbish. The best team by a mile won. Not only the superior team on the night but the best team throughout the tournamnet. Totally deserved.
A team of champions doesn’t snatch a 1-0 lead and then sits back and waits for the opponents to equalise. That’s what loser mentality teams do.

I’m hugely under pressure myself at this time, but wanted to comment on the big leveller. Peter Crouch enjoyed the match, and so did I, but England did us proud ? – sorry Peter that’s a popularity line. They have a great team with character and skills a plenty but they hmmm.. LOST. Tonight they wanted it so much in the hugely emotional arena that is Wembley but under huge emotional pressure against the foxes of Europe. Europe ? Yes most of Britain have just left Europe – and they suffered wooden leg syndrome against a Mancini inspired team that seemed to draw on invisible energy reserves and a three year unbeaten record – that can only inspire confidence. My heart wanted England to win but Italy outclassed them in the second half… Let’s look at the pundits.

Why to be beaten by a team with more guile ?I was surprised by Southgate’s penalty list. Look, black players have extra extra pressure – I don’t think he put the racist card into his reckoning but it was so important. There is far more pressure on a black player to perform well, especially under the spotlight of football’s home stadium. They should have been placed earlier if used.
I think it’s more eccentric to keep losing – we are such gentlemen and yes slightly eccentric. We attend a common party for 50 plus years and then want out for selfish reasons about erm… patriotism
Italy deserved their win ! Mancini’s been through it several times before – they were under far less pressure. When Italy equalised suddenly it became a nailbiter Great to watch – great theatre – get your hankies out but don’t cry – England are the second best team in Europe – quite an achievement. Quite an achievement indeed.
I am up early today and feel very sluggish – opened a good bottle of wine last night as an exception and see it is empty. I am fearful what this result does for the psyche of England – it was far more than a football match. I think Southgate has proven himself to be a very good manager and I think the team could have nicked this. They had to avoid penalties at all cost and I wasn’t that jubilant with the very early goal because it added to the team’s emotional pressure. Italy was light of foot after they equalised. The scoreline of 1-1 says it all. It was close. All a big shame really, and that we did not perform as well as we have previously or are capable of is possibly down to the pressure and weight of the occasion.

Dirty Raheem Stirling dived to get the penalty against Denmark that got England in the final. None of the lads had a problem with that as it’s just part of professional sport and everyone cheats apparently.
