“Never said I was better just prefer it and get excited when my team scores.
barely battered an eye lid when England scored last night”Beyond my comprehension this. Are you even from Liverpool Nathan?

July 9, 2021 at 15:03 #1549908Liverpool is up the road I use to go home and away 80 percent of the games and the odd European game until I became ill with kidney disease and had to start dialysis. My son was very young at the time and I had to make a choice of stop going to the game otherwise I’d probably be dead. Was a heavy drinker at the time. It was the break from football that got me into horse racing.
If a wizard stopped me in the street and offered me the choice of Liverpool winning their match in the 1st round of the Mickey mouse cup or England winning the world cup with the one I don’t pick losing I’d pick Liverpool everytime.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 9, 2021 at 21:29 #1550003Aye, being from Somerset, and not caring about England but loving Liverpool FC makes perfect sense.

July 9, 2021 at 22:11 #1550016Why do I have to care about England?
Do I have to care about England Cricket, Rugby, hockey, snooker and/or Netball team as well? Were you heartbroken when the UK got zero points in Eurovision?
Or does it only apply to the football team.
I find it very over hyped and don’t need to pretend to be part of it. I’m naturally not fussed if they win or lose on Sunday.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026

I’d say the same about the Premier League but I’ll be screaming the house down on Sunday evening. Funny old world isn’t it?
July 9, 2021 at 23:15 #1550028The only thing Dick will be doing on Sunday evening is blubbering like a little girl whilst deliriously repeating โthey told me it was coming homeโ
😭😭😭😭😭😭
July 10, 2021 at 09:26 #1550071I do find it amusing when people come on threads specifically about the England team to tell us all how they don’t care about the England team!
I can see why the good Captain wants to support Italy tomorrow though, after all they have been the bastions of fair play and sportsmanship throughout the history of the game.
Being totally honest it absolutely warms my heart to see all the hate the England team are getting at the moment and the football world had better pray that we don’t get the win because please believe we will not shut up about it for years!
COME ON ENGLAND.
July 10, 2021 at 09:36 #1550077I donโt think anybody needs to go as far as praying England donโt get the win.
No need for god when you have Roberto Mancini

Definitely you
July 10, 2021 at 11:59 #1550119It’s the thought of Ms Sturgeon being made to paint the England flag on her face. Being dominated by England’s what BigG gets off on. If all Scots were truthful that’s what they all enjoy.
Value Is EverythingJuly 10, 2021 at 12:08 #1550122Nathan didn’t come on this thread “specifically about the England team to tell us all how they donโt care about the England team”! Moyenne. He was just responding to a question asked so rightly gave reasons.

However, I do also generally find it a little strange when someone is so consumed with their own Premier League club (and often not a city/town they live in or are nearest to and sometimes one far away and with little or no connection to)… Where as with a team representing their own country they have little or no interest. Baffles me.
tbh I think this same feeling has possibly held England back over many years. Gary Neville talked recently about when he was in the England team. Man U guys kept together in their bubble, Chelsea theirs etc. Where as Southgate has seemingly been able to bring players from all clubs together off the pitch as well as on. Not sure whether that is a significant reason for their success though. For me the biggest reason is England has more top class individuals; but is true they’re certainly playing as one team.
Not the same if someone wasn’t interested in the particular sport, but if interested in football I don’t see why the England football team shouldn’t matter at least as much (if not more) than the league team he/she supports.
Value Is EverythingJuly 10, 2021 at 14:01 #1550174I do take interest in my home town. Played for Taunton Town reserves at 17 and 18 and trained with the first team on a few occasions but kept getting gout unknown at the time linked in to latter kidney problems(thought I was just injury prone). Also look out for results of Taunton and attend a hand full of games a season. Always been a member of Somerset county cricket club even when my wife passed away and I didn’t go anymore as it is a long day and my son is my priority.
Will go again when my lad is older and more dependant.
Even if everyone in the world thought my preferences are strange what can I do about it?
It is what it is and I make no apology for it
That being said I have posted elsewhere that I’d like to see Southgate win it as although he is not a top class manager it would be fantastic for somebody to miss the key penalty in the 96 euros and have to live with that for a quarter of a century to become the 1st England manager to deliver a major trophy since 1966 would have even the most stone of hearts amongst us emotional.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 10, 2021 at 14:41 #1550185We are all interested in horse racing but no one gives a monkeys if UK win the sugar cup ginger.
My passion is my club team. Doesn’t matter if I live on the moon.
Does it matter that the owner is American or the manager German. I find it strange and baffling that people find it strange and baffling that my preference is for Liverpool and it’s a big preference at thatGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 10, 2021 at 15:04 #1550190It is not unique to football. In cricket, I will always support Lancashire ahead of England. Even more so in the era of central contracts when England players seldom play for their counties.
Although it was good to see James Anderson take seven wickets for Lancashire last week, one of which was his 1,000th first class wicket. Due to central contracts and fewer County Championship games, he may well be the last ever bowler to reach this milestone.
July 10, 2021 at 17:04 #1550237Didn’t mean it as a criticism Nathan / CAS, just personally find it hard to understand.

Yes, Racing enthusiasts don’t care about the Shergar Cup, but the Shergar Cup is a an incredibly small part of Racing… a sport that doesn’t lend itself to team sport anyway. So hardly the same.
Euro’s and / or the World Cup are massive in football and Sport in general. You shouldn’t do anything “about it“, whatever works for the individual is right for him/her. Just seems a strange thing to me. For me country – England – always comes before regional or club. Although Britain comes before England – but that’s just me.
