He did say he needed it, read it back. Lol
I am aware an extra half a mile would be no problem. Same with the runner up.
January 22, 2022 at 16:07 #1579345I’m looking forward to next year’s Tingle Creek already
January 22, 2022 at 16:11 #1579347Brilliant race; Emergumene the much more fluent jumper, Shiskin seemed to go right at times. Next time you’d have to fancy Shishkin, but a few inaccurate jumps could easily see the result reversed; v little margin for error. Hope this is the start of a long rivalry
January 22, 2022 at 16:14 #1579349Has Seven Barrows got another horse in the Champion Chase?
Team Shishkin may well need a pacemaker, because after that performance Townend will be trying to slow it down still further if allowed another soft lead..Agree with FF, if anything is going to run in the Ryanair next year it’s most likely to be Shishkin, as the Irish horse seems to have most speed… Although is possible Shishkin just finds much more for pressure at any trip.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 22, 2022 at 16:14 #1579350That race is up there with Moscow Flyer / Azertyuiop / Well Chiefs Tingle Creek as the best 2m Chase this millenium IMO.
Energumene lost, but christ on a bike what a jumper. He seemed to leap from miles behind every single fence. Not sure I have seen the like. And Shishkin doing a passable Dayjur impression after the last
.That race was utterly exhilarating.

January 22, 2022 at 16:24 #1579354Ginger not a chance Shishkin goes to Ryanair next year whilst he is winning at 2 miles. If anything it might be Energumene that does unless he can turn the form round.
In the previews the ‘racing post experts’ were wondering if Energumene would switch if he lost today.January 22, 2022 at 16:28 #1579357That was some race; two out I thought it was up for Shishkin, but the afterburners came on after the last, and somehow he won. Enugermene didn’t do a lot wrong. Bring on the next match up, I still couldn’t call it; small margins.
January 22, 2022 at 16:45 #1579359Energumene didn’t do a lot wrong. I’m not sure if going slower will help him at Cheltenham. Something else will take up the running. Shishkin has Cheltenham course form and the hill to help. He made a few mistakes and one big one when his nose hit the floor and yet still won. If he jumps cleaner at Cheltenham I don’t see the Mullins horse turning it around.

January 22, 2022 at 16:47 #1579361Of course Shishkin will stay at 2m if continuing to win, Mike.
I’m on about after both have run in the Champion.
Don’t get me wrong. I think Shishkin is the most likely winner at Cheltenham.
However, I can see Enugermene travelling the better for most of the way. Therefore, if Shishkin does get beat it will appear he lacks speed against the Irish horse and as a consequence appear as if 2m5f will suit him.Where as if losing, Enugermene will still (most likely) have travelled best for a long way and therefore won’t be anything like certain to be as good at 2m5f next season. Yes, he might stay but – given how he travels – is unlikely to be as good at 2m5f.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 22, 2022 at 17:12 #1579368As a 3 mile ptp winner and a winner over 2 and a half already the Ryanair trip ought to suit Energumene, just like it did when Un De Sceaux, another front runner, did the same.
One thing stopping them atm is Allaho.
January 22, 2022 at 17:20 #1579369in that final furlong was energumene getting outpaced or outstayed?
January 22, 2022 at 17:21 #1579370A magnificent, breath-taking, 2m Grade 1 between two absolutely brilliant chasers with a pound between them, and people are already droning on about Cheltenham and the rancid Ryanair.

January 22, 2022 at 17:42 #1579374Were you not saying the same about Shishkin back along?

January 22, 2022 at 17:47 #1579375That’s very true Tatling, but you’re droning on relentlessly about people being obsessed with Cheltenham too.
You’re almost as obsessed with people being obsessed by Cheltenham, than the people being obsessed by Cheltenham.
January 22, 2022 at 17:50 #1579378Would not take a blind bit of notice of that Larkhill run, Mike. what a horse was like four years ago, trained by a different person, in a slowly run point to point in which he quickened up from the last to win – bears no resemblance to what the horse is today…
And even looking at the 2m4f win, Energumene has improved at least a stone and a half if not two stone since that win. Also noteworthy that his exceptional trainer has – despite the 2m4f victory – kept the horse at only up to 2m1f since. Seems to suggest Mullins believes him best at around 2 miles… And then there’s how he ran today; travelling with ease for most of the way against the best 2 mile chaser Britain has to offer.
As I say, yes he might stay but is unlikely to be as good at 2m5f than he is at around 2m imo.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 22, 2022 at 17:55 #1579380All I want to think about after watching that, is those two re-opposing at Cheltenham, Punchestown, and next seasons Tingle Creek.
Spoony – you appear to be obsessed about me obsessing about folks obsessions.

January 22, 2022 at 18:07 #1579382I do not like the Ryanair either TTC. I wish the option was not there. However, it is and it is not going away.
If Shishkin beats Energumene again in the Champion Chase (and especially if he beats him even more convincingly), are Mullins and Bloom likely to keep running him against a horse they know they cannot beat?
I agree they should (and will) go to the CC this year but I doubt they will again if he loses.
