Jesus – delay to racing as checking false patch of ground and then RTV show a groundsman laying on his side with his whole arm up to the shoulder burried down a whole just before the last hurdle 2F out.
Cleeve Hurdle runners somehow barely missed it but not sure they can move around it because it is slap bang in the middle of the hurdles course from where the rail and the fences have been moved out to.
Have to abandon
January 24, 2026 at 16:19 #1751663I actually thought Ma Shantou stepped into some kind of a hole right after jumping the last. You have to abandon, you can never be sure this is the only one they have.

Good grief. Got to be a collapsed drain or something, they should abandon straight away, light or no light. Can’t guarantee another section won’t go.
January 24, 2026 at 16:22 #1751666No, it’s just another further delay…..
January 24, 2026 at 16:24 #1751667Disaster of a day for Cheltenham …
January 24, 2026 at 16:25 #1751668Now they are rebuilding the course….
January 24, 2026 at 16:26 #1751669It isn’t a false patch of ground it is a hole and I am not sure that the man that had his arm down it to the shoulder was at the bottom of the whole.
I wonder if it is something to do with a drainage whole – moving rails now, utter madness to run the risk with such little investigation of the surrounding area and the light quickly running out.
Jockey just came out and said he was being told that it is a collapsed land drain – trainers/jockeys going to have a look now.

Worst Trials Day I’ve ever witnessed…. The injury to Sir Gino, Poor GC and CH trials and not the hole in the ground.

That’s my nomination for comment of the year Nathan.
January 24, 2026 at 16:31 #1751677Lydia just said the hole is 40cm deep (15″) – rubbish, that man had his whole arm down the hole and my arm is over 60cm long, Nicky has just withdrawn his horse,
January 24, 2026 at 16:34 #1751679Going ahead with the race….disgrace!
