How many different British based trainers will have a winner at Cheltenham next month?
Last year it was 7, and 4 of them came on Day 1.
March 3, 2026 at 16:34 #1757029Having listened to quite a few Cheltenham previews over the past few days (as I’m laid up on the sofa with a lousy cold!) I’m rather hopeful that we’re going to do quite well this year.
March 3, 2026 at 16:41 #1757030I suspect that without the mares races, X country and bumper we’d be in with a chance of the Prestbury cup this year – so only 6 behind?!?
March 3, 2026 at 16:50 #1757033I know all my cold medication is making me hallucinate a bit ( although, sadly, Benylin no longer contains morphine…sigh, those were the days) but I’m imagining the Skeltons winning the Ch H and GC and Adam Nicol winning the Triumph.
March 3, 2026 at 17:25 #1757036The Skeltons winning the Champion Hurdle AND the Gold Cup?
I’ll have some of that cold medicine, please.
March 3, 2026 at 17:28 #1757039He’s likely to win the Champion hurdle , I expect Skelton will win a hcap or 2 to
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 3, 2026 at 18:04 #1757046He’ll possibly win the Champion Hurdle, given the severely depleted opposition, and maybe a handicap or two.
But that isn’t the same as saying that he’ll win both the Champion Hurdle and the Gold Cup.
March 3, 2026 at 20:05 #1757093First day is a big big day for the brits. Favs in the supreme, arkle, likely CH, ultima. Live chances in plate
If they dont win at least 3 on first day it really sets the tone.
March 3, 2026 at 20:06 #1757095Who actually cares? 🤷♂️
The Prestbury Cup is yet another contrived “divide and rule” load of b******s.
March 3, 2026 at 20:16 #1757098What’s your Champion get now Glad ?
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 3, 2026 at 20:18 #1757099Sorry, HDLG, but would you be kind enough to rephrase that question in English?
March 3, 2026 at 20:32 #1757105What horse are you backing now in the Champion hurdle

March 4, 2026 at 09:37 #1757143I dont really care about the prestbury cup, but i do care about british trainers competing. The balance needs readdressing and this year it looks like britain has more contenders.
Winning the big festival races is the way to get the spread of good horses shared amongst trainers. Not to mention willie and gordon getting to juggle there abundance of talent to the detriment of the races.
I also would like to see trainers and jockeys who i am invested in win at the festival. I wanna see Hendo, Nicholls, skelton, pauling do the business.
But i I understand some people just want to see good horses and dont care who trains them.
March 4, 2026 at 09:52 #1757146I’m the same in not being that bothered by the Prestbury Cup but the Festival has shown in recent times the dearth of genuine top class Grade 1 performers in the UK and that has to matter for the financial health & interest of the sport in the UK and in Ireland too if they still want to sell NH horses to the UK.
Just a small sign of an upturn next week will help and hopefully make some races a bit more competitive & compelling to watch.
March 4, 2026 at 19:40 #1757193Someone mentioned on one of the previews that it the British don’t get any winners at Cheltenham the market for Irish bred (or sourced) horses will dry up which won’t be good for business.
March 5, 2026 at 18:07 #1757244I’m shocked at the disregard for the Prestbury Cup! 😱
I think you’ll find that Skelton, Henderson, Nicholls et al would rather win the cup than have any individual winners themselves. And if the cup were to be regained ( have we ever actually won it?) there’d surely be an open topped bus tour of Lambourn…
More seriously, the main reason Id like more British winners is that it’s usually easier for me to get a handle on their form for betting purposes. - AuthorPosts
