It’s why Arkle is still remembered all these years later , wonder where GDC go next , they can prob have another go next year but at 10 it’ll be difficult
March 14, 2025 at 16:31 #1723877He looked fresh enough ginge kicking out leaving the paddock , Rummy did similar after races , may well depend on the ground , if it was really soft or heavy there’s more chance of me running in it
March 14, 2025 at 16:32 #1723878I think they only have the GC left for him. He could bypass Punchestown as there is nothing for him to win at that meeting. He’s had a very tough season and I’m quite sure they’ll put him away and have a final go next year.
March 14, 2025 at 16:34 #1723881Rip Corbetts Cross
March 14, 2025 at 16:36 #1723884Banbridge was beaten well before he reached the 3 mile marker. He was a probable non-stayer going into this, but it wasn’t stamina that beat him today.
Value Is EverythingMarch 14, 2025 at 16:37 #1723885Funny thing is if Ino had been saved for the National Galopin wins the Gold Cup by 12 lengths and we would using ‘legend like’ superlatives about the horse.
March 14, 2025 at 16:38 #1723886Great bit of supplementing won that comfortably. Galopin may have been slightly hindered but it made no difference he was beaten fair and square.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 14, 2025 at 16:39 #1723888Ah poor Corbetts Cross, didn’t realise it was that bad.
Hope GDC gets tucked away and skips Punchestown, he had as hard a race in defeat or harder as he had in his wins
March 14, 2025 at 16:40 #1723890He’s still a legend for me Mike. If nothing else because unlike certain other high profile horses he dances every dance and he never completely bombs, might be slightly below par at times including today but still runs to a standard that would go close in most grade 1s.
March 14, 2025 at 16:40 #1723891He’s very in and out Ginge and another reason for not liking that KG form , Fact to File if you def knew Mullins would run him would be my bet for boxing day
March 14, 2025 at 16:40 #1723892Banbridge ran an absolute stinker considering the ground. He was never travelling.
Galopin Des Champs not as good on a faster surface but connections were absolutely mad giving him 3 hard runs before a 3rd Gold Cup attempt. Greedy owners me thinks.
The winner was sublime and should definitely skip the Grand National as he’s only 7.
March 14, 2025 at 16:43 #1723895Time 6 seconds faster than Racing Post Standard.
Probably too firm for Galopin. But also it was strange Paul held him up.
For sure Galopin was held up to win his first Gold Cup, but he’d been ridden prominently on all his last 7 starts. ie It’s not what the horse has got used to and didn’t race with the same fluency today.Value Is EverythingMarch 14, 2025 at 16:44 #17238963-1 now for the Grand National.
Must surely go there and attempt to make history.
March 14, 2025 at 16:45 #1723897I agree Mike take the winner out GDC is 12l clear. I don’t buy all this making excuses, Galopin was travelling like the winner two out and got beaten by a better one on the day.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 14, 2025 at 16:48 #1723898He was outstayed by a younger stayer , Cromwell peaked this horse for today and I know I keep mentioning it but they really didn’t try very hard at Punchestown ….
March 14, 2025 at 16:51 #1723900It was a blatant handbrake job at Punchestown but that would only be with Aintree in mind you’d think? Let it off now the weights are set.
March 14, 2025 at 16:54 #1723901Incapsulates the glorious highs and desperate lows in one race. Condolences to all especially Corbetts groom.
Winner has improved massively to take this in the manner he did – GDC went down on his sword and was well clear of the rest and Townend looked after him on the run in when he knew it was a hopeless task. Sods law he will probably go and win at Punchestown now!
It will go down as one of the most surprising Festivals of all time that had a bit of everything what with what happened in the Champion Hurdle/Champion Chase/Gold Cup, throw in a 100-1 winner of the Triumph Hurdle making his jumping debut, Mullins with a record equalling 10 winners (with the chance to beat his record in the last) but missing out on the big two and the emotionally poignant fairytale wins of Marine Nationale/Jazzy Matty and you literally had a narrative that not even Hollywood would believe if you wrote it.
