Probably ran below par, if that was due to a lack of a run or not who knows…I would be interested to see where they go with her next, possibly Aintree? She’ll strip fitter probably.

What a mare Benie is to do that on her 4th start for mullins and her first start over hurdles for him.

She shaped like a stayer hugely, but one with plenty of ability.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!

    Absolutely delighted

As you’ll see from early in this thread, I backed BDD at 14s for any race from way before Christmas.

    Fantastic mare

Like MOM i backed Benie ante-post but only 10s not the 14s.

Chuffed but I’m really hoping that winning this doesn’t mean she isn’t going to see a fence again. She could be anything once put back over the larger obstacles. I hope she’s given a proper chasing campaign next season but I doubt it. She should be campaigned for a tilt at the Gold Cup.

She beat Midnight Tour all out, GC shouts are a bit OTT.

Well…you’re right the form is nothing to shout about (as AJ clearly not at her best) but OTOH trainer said she needs to go back up in trip and she is a big strong lump of a mare who doesn’t really need the weight allowance to level the playing field. Also as good/better over fences.

What race does Willie run her in at the Festival next year? Might as well train her for the GC, then if she’s holding her own in Graded company over fences and he has a rake of good hurdling mares next year she can go to the GC; if not she can easily transition back to hurdles like she did this year, and VVM did before her.

GAG, they have said she hurts herself when she jumps, hence the long breaks between racing, i will be interested to see if they ever go chasing again…perhaps, they could go chasing at one of the festivals, and then let her have a break until Christmas, and go again.

Ah right enough I did hear them say she takes a lot out of herself over fences. Maybe there is more risk of something like a pelvic stress fracture in a big framed horse over fences, like Douvan or Sizing John got.

It’s a long long way to go from a mares hurdle to taking on the boys in grade 1s. She looked made for the Stayers Hurdle I thought, but I’ll worry about that next year!

She apparently arches her back wrong when she jumps fences and gives her back trouble, no pelvic or such issues.

Apples Jade is in season, which would explain her poor run. Michael O Leary told RUK in his Samcro interview.
