How many times you been to Chelsea
August 15, 2010 at 19:18 #312942I like it Matt. Think I’ll start a Somerset CCC thread up for next season. Now they will be in a different parish to the rest.

I can imagine some people might not like it, supporters of other teams, but I promise you, they’re definitely the team at the moment.
Such quality.
August 15, 2010 at 21:52 #312992Ramires and Drogba have never been been named in FIFA’s team of the year, the’ve never won any World Footballer of the Year awards etc… so how the hell can they be best in the world?
Are you serious?

Drogba was the best "striker" listed. Some would say he finished behind the 3 best players in this era…

Listed in 2007.
Hmm, I’ll move on only because, despite not being a Chelsea fan, Drogba is my favourite player.

Yeah, only Champions of England.

Well, there is that.
But why let that little fact get in the way
August 16, 2010 at 00:36 #313010Personally as a Chelsea fan i was desperate to win last weeks game. Hell theres only 5 possible trophies you can win and it could be said that the Charity Shield is worth more than the European Cup these days (at least you have to win something to be in it and not come 2nd 3rd or 4th to enter)

Yep i concur that our fans these days leave a lot to be desired have thought so for ages really. Probably due to the glory hunters that follow teams that are doing well for the moment. Dont go any longer in fact stopped going just before our Cup win in 97!! The fans were changing then!!!

Apologies Jose, when I said never I mean they weren’t named last year. However, you’re talking about 2007, Matthew is saying Drogba is the best striker in the world now.
If you’re going to use opinions from years ago then surely Robbie Fowler is the best striker in the world, Gazza is the best midfielder in the world, and Bruce Grobellar is undoubtedly the best keeper in the world
August 16, 2010 at 10:47 #313036Drogba is the best striker in the world at the moment.
August 16, 2010 at 13:47 #313060Fair enough, One Eye. I think Drogba is a better player now than he was in 2007. Where that puts him in relation to other players is up for others to decide, but it’s not going to be easy to get into a World XI currently. Messi and Ronaldo take up two spots even if they were to miss 9 months injured and Villa will be a practical certainty to join them for this year. Much of this depends on how far you extend the term "world class." It’s overused, yes, but for me Drogba’s recent record means he’s fully deserving of being described as "world class."
August 16, 2010 at 15:14 #313068Oh he’s definitely world class Jose, I think that’s quite hard to disagree with.

How did I know that was coming!
Chelsea may have scored 12 goals in two games, but they haven’t exactly been overfaced, have they? West Brom are some way short of Premiership class and Wigan are as woeful an outfit as I have ever seen – eleven strangers thrown together every weekend to annoy supporters and ship goals.
Arsenal may have been up against an equally inferior team in Blackpool, but some of the football they played was out of this world and a league apart from anything any other team in this country is capable of producing. Slick, accurate, one-touch football has become the trademark of the Gunners in recent years and despite failing to take advantage of the extra man against Liverpool, they’re going to be one hell of a team.

No you’re not. Will you stop posting sh*te Matthew

Are we really going to get this thread bumped to the top every time Chelsea pick up three points?
So far Chelsea have played West Brom and Wigan, two of the three favourites to be relegated. In golfing terms all you are is on par, simple as that mate. Beating one of the top six teams is like getting a birdie, dropping points to a lesser team is a like a bogie. So all Chelsea are at the moment is on par, they have recorded two out of two victories like they were expected to.
You’re next three games are against Stoke, West Ham and Blackpool so if you haven’t got 15 points after these games then you will be behind schedule. After that it gets tougher. You have away trips to Man City, Aston Villa and Liverpool as well as having to play Arsenal etc. If in early November you’re still banging in four or five goals a game then by all means come back and say Chelsea are the best team on the planet.
But until then, can you please stop this nonesense

You still haven’t explained why a full strength Chelsea side (apart from Drogba who came on as sub) were easily brushed aside by Man Utd in the Community Shield. You weren’t such a good team then where you? But now you’ve beat Wigan and West Brom you’re suddenly the best team in the world.
And don’t you dare come on and say Chelsea weren’t bothered about the shield; Ancelotti is on record as saying it was a game he desperately wanted to win (hence the full strength side) in order to gain an early psychological edge of United. It didn’t work though.
