I’m on at 5/6 Mike he’s just gone evens. JG won’t be running him unless he’s absolutely fine
October 16, 2020 at 00:04 #1506202Frenchy I am tempted to have a large bet on him.
October 16, 2020 at 02:45 #1506207All over Stradivarius now at 11/10 on exchanges!
Didn’t JG describe the Arc as an exercise canter or something similar? Was nowhere near a hard race. Same can be said for the Prix Foy. He should be spot on for this I think.
People are using his defeat by Kew Gardens as a reason to oppose him but he still ran to a big figure that day and Kew Gardens is a class stayer and better than anything in this field. Plus Strad was 8/13 that day and you can get odds against for this.
He may get beat but even money is a gift imo.
I have a funny feeling Champions day will be suprisingly be good for favourite backers this year.
October 16, 2020 at 06:43 #1506210Totally agree KK, Kew Gardens was way better than anything running against him tomorrow. Backing Stradivarius over his career has been a licence to print money time and time again. I thought finally the markets had woken up after his Ascot romp but now he can be backed at odds against again! Amazing!
October 16, 2020 at 07:31 #1506212I think you might be giving Kew Gardens far more credit than he deserves there he won a Leger but the form looked stronger at the time because we thought Lah Ti Dar would be something special, in the end she wasn’t. Kew Gardens was thumped by Morando at Chester and beaten by Search For A Song in last years Irish Leger. The facts are (you can look them up on BHA site if you don’t believe me) Stradivarius hasn’t run to a figure bigger than 118 in this race down the years which is partly mitigated by his opposition bringing his rating down, partly down to it being a Group 2 but probably also down to it coming at the end of a long season where he’s had other things which were more important. This is a theme across Champions Day down the years and why the name of it is probably slightly flawed coming this late in the season on horrendous ground normally.
October 16, 2020 at 08:12 #1506218I couldn’t disagree with that more, but completely depends on how you view it TTM. I don’t think it’s anything to do with a long season personally. The first race in the Long Distance was 3 years ago and he wasn’t even fav that day. Then he won 2 years, and then last year, he just got a little bit stuck on the surface, maybe it was getting sticky a bit maybe it was to do with being half a furlong shorter than normal and Kew Gardens is a good horse, no question for me….He was officially rated higher than what’s lining up tomorrow, ran a good race in the Arc and nearly won the Coronation Cup previously to winning this one, that’s way above anything tomorrow.
Neither Broome or Sovereign have done anything since June last year and Search For A Song was laid out to win the Irish Leger.
There is nothing in the race at Kew Gardens level. The two defeats you mention came off a break and in fact his record off a break was poor generally, so it easily explains that.
Not pointing this directly at you, but personally I think it’s hilarious that there are so many people that have been willing to take him on over his career. He makes fools of them all the time.
With the race last year actually being 1m 7.5F, His form at 2M+ is 1311111111111 and yet people want to take him on?
What is everyone smoking?!!
A horse with a record like that, can be backed at Evens tomorrow. If that’s not value, I don’t know what is!!
October 16, 2020 at 08:17 #1506219People like to knock Champions Day, but (and I’ve done this before), these are the winners on Champions Day over the last 9 seasons…..
Stradivarius
Order of St George
Magical
Simple Verse
Dancing Rain
Cracksman
Almanzor
Frankel
Cirrus Des Aigles
Muhaarar
The Tin Man
Slade Power
Roaring Lion
Minding
Solow
Olympic GloryAnd that’s not even listing all of them. These are multiple group 1 champions.
What more do people want??!!
You can’t have a Champions Day at the end of the season on Summer Ground. It just isn’t possible, so it either gets scrapped as an event (pointless) or people accept it as it as and realise that “Champions Day” is actually Champions Week at Royal Ascot in June every season
October 16, 2020 at 10:27 #1506225This is not a betting race for me. But I will be hoping Stradivarius can end the season on a high as I don’t particularly fancy anything in the field to take him on with.
I will not be backing horses that ran on that deep ground at Longchamp only a fortnight ago. I am expecting some below par performances from them horses tomorrow. Strad may or may not be one of them. But for me the sensible approach is to keep onside the horses that come into the meeting fresher

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 16, 2020 at 15:37 #1506248The first instinct is to look to oppose Stradivarius off the back off a tough race at Longchamp. However, that one’s price at a shade of odds against pretty much allows for that as he should win if he has no ill effects from Paris efforts. Rest are priced about as I’d expect and I can’t really find a strong contender to latch on to. If I was going for anything each-way (not my favourite way of betting) then I’d plump for Fujaira Prince, lightly raced this season and progressive, but favourite needs to be significantly below par.
October 16, 2020 at 16:06 #1506252Did he have a tough race?
They crawled around and he wasn’t given a hard time
October 16, 2020 at 17:32 #1506268I must admit i thought Search For A Song put up one of the most incredible performances of last year in the Irish Leger.First mare in 30 years to win it and for a horse to pull that hard for half a mile and still beat a horse like Kew Gardens like that was incredible really.
Seems to get better as the season goes on but ran well in that G1 over 10F behind Magical and had Armory behind her. Blinkers seem to of done the trick with her and i love her to bits.
Soft ground is a bit of a concern like.
October 16, 2020 at 17:43 #1506271I backed Search For A Song in the Irish Leger at a nice price so she did me a good turn there. But this is soft ground and connections have said they didn’t want the ground too soft.
October 16, 2020 at 21:24 #1506289I’m surprised at 12-1 for Fujaira Prince. I wouldn’t call him a strong fancy, but I’ll go with that price.
October 16, 2020 at 23:38 #1506310I am slowly backing strad on the boost with WH I have 1.39/1 I will get the next 3 boost later tonight.
October 17, 2020 at 03:29 #1506326I think that the 12/1 for Fujaira Prince 4 places Betfair is a stonking
good bet. I can’t see him being out of the 1st 4 home. Strad is a wonder horse, but although Gosden said
he is finea fter his run in the Arc, I find it hard to believe thata run on bottomless ground
hasn’t taken the edge off him. I think with the ground conditions here that FP can reverse the
form with Search For A Song and take this.October 17, 2020 at 08:01 #1506342Don’t want to detract too much from the subject of this thread other than to say I think Stradivarius is the price he is because he’s taking on unknown quantities today and he’s facing a bigger field than he usually would which I think shows you other trainers respect him but they know he’s not this invincible horse others make him out to be. He will go down in time as a great stayer and so he should but context is needed, his hardest year/s in this division were when he emerged and was taking on Big Orange and Order Of St George and the one occasion he faced Vazirabad. Once they retired he’s been beating up some fairly ordinary (not G1) stayers, he is very good but this division is not and the bulk of the opposition today are new to him, some unexposed over this sort of trip and they may not be taking him on in his prime. If you offered me his price today against the likes of Nayef Road again I’d bite your hand off as we know he can beat them all day everyday.
Regarding the Champions Day concept – its flawed because the name implies the winners of the races and even those competing in them are the champions of their divisions. The list Frenchy rolled off is impressive but even within that list – Roaring Lion wasn’t a champion miler he won a poor renewal of the QE2, Donjuan Triumphant last year the champion sprinter? The name is wrong I have no issue with the races being renamed something else and being run as Group 1s on the same card.
