Only the outstanding Triumph winners usually go on to win the Champion, like Katchit. Pentland Hills was only an average winner, even when he followed up at Aintree. He may be good enough in what is a thin year but I would not be confident.
January 12, 2020 at 10:05 #1479618I’ll take a gamble on the ground for Sharjah here at 10-1.
January 12, 2020 at 21:28 #1479674Had a bit on Not So Sleepy at 66’s, Im sure not the worst bet particularly in what looks an open year. If he can maintain progress and learn to settle? Hope to see an improved run off 144 in the Betfair. Hoping for two things; 1. NTS is another Make a Stand and 2. Better luck than last year’s A.P bet of 25’s on Sir Erec
in the Triumph.A good jockey doesn't need orders and a bad jockey couldn't carry them out; so it's best not to give them any.
January 18, 2020 at 12:34 #1480107I’ve added Darasso at 33-1 ew to go with my Sharjah bet. I hope that at least one of them makes it there.
January 18, 2020 at 15:27 #1480144Pentland Hills did alrite in that ground.
January 18, 2020 at 15:31 #1480152Really Mike ? , beaten by a handicapper and at level weights would have been beaten by cornerstone lad , personally I think he,s got plenty to find to win this
January 18, 2020 at 16:18 #1480174Still as clear as mud.
I’ve added Petit Mouchoir at 40s ew NRNB with b365.January 18, 2020 at 17:35 #1480182Can see why people want to write off pentland for the champion hurdle but this is the weakest champion hurdle I’ve ever seen I reckon. I still think pentland fully deserves to be near the top of the market for the champion. His form is similar to many of the other key rivals for the race. But clearly there’s an absolute tonne left to come from pentland hills and that’s what I like most about his chances. He pulled hard early on again today and came there swinging. The horse either idles in front or his early keeness blunted his finish, either way a strong pace in the champion hurdle will clearly help a lot more and better ground will help and I think Nico will ride him a bit cooler and get there later next time, as he did look like he would win by 4/5 lengths today jumping the last
January 18, 2020 at 19:16 #1480193Pentland hills has 0 chance, theres nothing left to come nvm a tonne … where is this tonne going to come from? That was with a weight allowance today… empties if he has a challenge.
January 18, 2020 at 22:07 #1480214Honeysuckle at 10/1 sticks out like a sore thumb
If she wins the irish champion hurdle I find it very difficult to believe they wont come here
If she doesnt and the ground is gd to soft then sharjah looks the bet
Cant have epatante or pentland hills at the prices
If it was to be soft or worse then call me lord looks a half decent e/w bet, the much stronger pace of a champion hurdle will show him in a much better light than when he won the international hurdle
January 18, 2020 at 22:40 #1480216Nothing left to come hahaha! Ham you do come out with some corkers. Zero chance in champion hurdle? Do agree honeysuckle is a live chance but I think pentland will be top 3 in the champion and I’m confident of that.
Ham, you do know when a horse is keen early on, they very often do empty late on in the race. I don’t even know why I need to explain that but clearly I do. Both runs this season he was very keen early in the race and emptied both times like you say. But it’s not a feature of the horse is it lmao. The horse didn’t empty in the triumph or at Aintree because he wasn’t as keen then.
Clearly when he’s running in better than heavy ground the pace in the race will be quicker so he won’t be so keen plus They will go quicker in the champion hurdle anyway. So if he’s not keen in the champion hurdle, which I think is likely, then surely he won’t empty, not as much anyway. And if that’s the case Then there’s plenty more to come from him if he finds off the bridle. So that’s why I’m saying there’s lots to come from him. The stronger pace suiting and the faster ground suiting. Both those will help him. So that’s the improvement. And by the looks of this pathetic category this season he hasn’t got to improve much to finish top 3.
But I love your confidence, you were wrong about EE last season so I’m hoping you’re wrong about this horse.January 19, 2020 at 11:30 #1480235Not a vintage race by any means but on the day if sharjah, saldier, epatante, honeysuckle, silver streak and cornerstone lad turn up off levels he has literally no chance, if you think that being keen early on and still getting beat off ballyandy qualifies as a true CH winner then im baffled, i do indeed come out with some terrible shouts (as do most in horse racing) but being remotely confident on pentland hills for this is absolutely the icing on the cake for coming out with corkers

What makes you think he wont be keen in the CH?
What was i wrong about elegant escape last season with? I said a horse like ABP would beat him? He did fid he not? and he finished 6th? Unless im remembering it wrong
January 19, 2020 at 14:13 #1480246Maybe read my post again when I clearly explained why he won’t be keen or as keen in the champion hurdle. I said the ground will likely be better than heavy come Cheltenham so that would encourage a faster pace. Plus it’s the champion hurdle mate, pretty sure they never go a crawl so if you don’t think those 2 things will help pentlands keenness you need a new hobby.
And he’s still second favourite so clearly the market thinks that wasn’t his best showing yesterday and would quite obviously beat cornerstone lad if there’s a strong pace off level weights.
Do you Just read form lines in straight lines without analysing the race at all. Do you never look at how the race was run, or how a horse travelled or anything ? Same with DDS yesterday. You’re slaying the form because of the proximity of 3rd without even taking into account how heavily eased dds was and how he idles infront anyway so he’s never going to win by half the track anyway.
And yeah cracking tip EE 6th beaten 26 lengths mate. When you acted like he was the second coming.
Pentland will definitely beat balltandy and corner stone lad in the champion that’s for sure. And yeah he will finish top 3. And I’m confident because I’m confident there will be a strong pace which will bring out quite a bit of improvement in him
January 19, 2020 at 14:53 #1480248It shows the lack of quality in this year’s race if Pentland Hills can be second favourite despite not winning a race all season.
Honeysuckle would win this easily if only her connections would run her. Hopefully she will win at Leopardstown and force their hand.
January 19, 2020 at 19:03 #1480258Pentland Hills’ wins have been on the following ground…
GS, GS, GD, GF, GS.
So ruling him out based on what happened yesterday on Heavy is dangerous. Makes form almost meaningless when a horse runs on its least favoured surface. Did very well considering.
January 19, 2020 at 19:39 #1480263And yeah cracking tip EE 6th beaten 26 lengths mate. When you acted like he was the second coming.
That wasn’t Ham it was Potato.
Not a sentence I ever thought I’d have to say here
January 20, 2020 at 09:30 #1480284Just on Honeysuckle lads, are people getting a bit carried away? She’s only beaten Bacardys by 9L over 2 and a half miles; now that could be decent form and she did it well but does that make her a good thing for the Champion Hurdle? Obviously she’s in the Irish Champion Hurdle so hopefully we’ll find out then. If she beats Sharjah and Petit Mouchoir over 2 miles on decent yielding ground in Leopardstown then she’s definitely a contender.
