They have changed it Ginge; they originally gave him a mark of 160+ for that performance.
February 5, 2018 at 19:16 #1340978Altior back out on Saturday for the Game Spirit providing the ground isn’t too soft. Please god he makes it, as good as he is, would he be good enough to win the Champion Chase without a prep? Can’t imagine the stats are in his favour there. On the other hand, if he wins his prep race, it will increase the chance of him ‘bouncing’ on the big day.
I feel like more has been made out of Altior’s wind op because the trainer has been overly careful. I’ve never heard of a horse bouncing because of a wind op, but is it a case that Altior’s was more severe than most?
For what it’s worth, Henderson has a 18.9% strike-rate with horses returning off a break of more than 60 days, whereas he generally has a strike-rate of 24%. This would indicate his horses are generally better for a run. I think he’s also talked about a change in his gallops this season so horses were needing their first run. However, he’s the greatest trainer in Festival history, so would you mitigate that in terms of Altior being ready?
February 5, 2018 at 19:46 #1340983As said over on the Ascot Chase thread Degaussed, I think the bounce factor might be overplayed. But it is definitely a factor. As for whether a horse can bounce due to a wind op, I haven’t the faintest idea, nor have I heard of one for that matter. But whilst they might not bounce, horses don’t always come back to what they once were after a wind op. I’m aware Might Bite underwent a similar procedure last season and if anything improved for it, but what worked for Might Bite is not guaranteed to work for Altior.
Physically Might Bite is hugely different to Altior, perhaps that might have some bearing on the effectiveness of such procedures. Most likely not.
My point is, Altior has everything to prove, especially for the price he is. Min – who I never believed would be that inferior to Altior over fences – hs proved he is better than ever. I think Min will surprise a few people how good he really is.
February 5, 2018 at 20:00 #1340985If a wind problem causes a horse pain then they can run below their usual standard on reappearance because they expect it still to hurt when they race. When they realise it doesn’t, which could be in that race or the following race, they actually settle better, travel more comfortably and feel the benefit of the operation.
February 5, 2018 at 20:10 #1340986Interesting theory Charlie. Is it your own, or did you hear it off somebody?
My problem with it is, surely the horse would realise it no longer hurts in the first few seconds of the race, why would they only realise this in the following race? Or why would they not realise this while doing fast work at home?

February 5, 2018 at 20:58 #1340994There is a part of me that thinks its the trainers who need the “wind op”,especially this time of year
@Charlie87…..Just looking back at the 2017 friday thread….some day fella for you, that would take the beating on any day,let alone cheltenham, quality stuff.February 5, 2018 at 21:06 #1340998Cheer pal. Won’t be forgetting that Friday for a while!
February 5, 2018 at 23:11 #1341006The aftertiming on this rancid site is disgusting but the vile charlie1987 outstrips them all
Never had a winner that he didn’t tip afterwards
February 5, 2018 at 23:46 #1341009So rancid you cant keep your eyes off it
February 6, 2018 at 03:10 #1341011I don’t think people should be using terms such as: rancid, disgusting or vile to describe this forum or those contributing to it. From what I have seen over the last few months of being on the forum it is enthusiastic, passionate and informative.
I would also describe it as a horse racing community with generally people wishing well to one another on their bets etc.
If someone has had a good day in the office then fair play.
February 6, 2018 at 04:18 #1341012What’s your problem Judge? Someone else on the forum has brought up my selections from Friday last year (completely randomly I might add) and you call me saying thank you ‘rancid, disgusting and vile’. Utterly unnecessary and childish behaviour, to say the least.
Assuming you are old enough to tell the time, you will see from last years archive that my post was made on March 17, 2017 at 08:10am. No aftertiming, you are talking rubbish as per usual and as CNC says, if someone has a good day in the office then why not say well done and congratulate them. You are a far cry from the type of people I associate with this sport and this forum, and you let yourself down with pointless posts that make you look simple and idiotic.
February 6, 2018 at 08:44 #1341018Min was great on Saturday, but i would wonder how good the form was?
Yorkhill his “main” danger decided Saturday wasn’t the day for him.
Simply Ned before his shock win was a low 150s horse. Special Tiara will improve a good bit for better ground.
Ordinary World, was running on at the finish, and for me might have been 7 or 8 behind Min at the finish?
I really liked Min for this earlier in the year and made a case for him to improve vs Altior…Just not sure his last two runs could confirm him as improved over fences..
As for judge, has someone hacked his account or something?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 6, 2018 at 12:11 #1341030Nice post CNC…..I am also new to the forum,my own experience has been similar, not only are these forums somewhere to share opinions, they can also be a learning tool.We all have our own methods, every day can be a learning day, that has always been my philosophy, never be too proud to learn from others, every single poster contributes in some way, long may that continue.
TJ1…..Charlie87 was acknowledging my post, there should be no issue with him,by all means aim it at me if required, were it your selections I came across, you would have received the same response, regardless.
Overstepped the mark here, timeform sqiggle, leave it to you to resolve that, your posts are as Important as the next mans, think your better than the one last night.
Regards FN
February 6, 2018 at 12:14 #1341032Agree with the quality of this forum, its great. New myself, tried OLBG as well, but it doesn’t have as in depth a forum nor does it have enough regularly posting on it.
This does and its much better.
Judge cheer the f up

February 6, 2018 at 12:50 #1341038Hi Jackh…..Its a great time of year for national hunt fans, plenty of form lines to sift through as the big festivals approach, trying to nail down the best horses from both sides water, easier said than done.Plenty will happen between now and march, lots decent racing between now and then, watching stables closely to see what kind of form they are in,not sure how we are all gonna fit it in,but we will
