I really want to bet Benbatl 9/4 with sky bet, the going right now is good, good to firm in places but with heavy rain forecast for tomorrow and showers later in the week it’s too risky. The horse likes good at the minimum to see the best of him. The 3rd to Maximum Security in Riyadh is strong form. But with the weather it’s a waiting game and hoping the odds don’t shorten. Now 11/4 with betfair.
August 24, 2020 at 18:48 #1498739DUKE OF HAZZARD 7/2
For me when he runs at Goodwood is form is worth upgrading best track for him go for him
August 25, 2020 at 01:23 #1498756darren I see why you like the horse at goodwood and he won the race last year and his form is 1112 at the track.
August 25, 2020 at 09:55 #1498763Agree with @mike987654 11/4 very tempting.
Benbatl is good form so far this year with form figures 113 (though not run since Feb) His 5 length win in a Grp2 at Newmarket is the best form on offer from those likely to line up.
Ground looks 50/50 though. Will watch the weather first before betting.
August 25, 2020 at 11:46 #1498765I read yesterday they will only run Benbatl if the conditions are right. To me the weather forecast it is not looking promising and could easily see the going come the weekend GS or Soft. I will hold off until the day of the race.
August 25, 2020 at 12:36 #1498767I’m a big fan of Regal Reality, but not at this price.
It’s Goodwood, so I’ll go with Duke of Hazzard here, I think that 7-2 is a great price. He’s on the verge of being a price where I’d usually sit it out, but I think he’s got a big chance.
August 25, 2020 at 12:56 #1498774Problem is of he actually lines up on decent ground he will be 6/4 absolute max as he is miles clear on ratings
The 11/4 is very much taking into account he is an unlikely runner
August 25, 2020 at 22:09 #1498801Benbatl at 11/4 is fantastic value if the forecast changes but right now after yesterday’s rain and more forecast it would appear more likely he isn’t going to run than is. Regal Reality I’m a big fan as mentioned the last time he ran at Salisbury but his standout form is on GF. Duke of Hazzard has the course form but he’s quite short now and ran a stinker last time for no apparent reason. With a clear run Escobar would probably have beaten DOH in the Lennox Stakes and he’s 25/1 against 100/30.
Anyone fancying DOH must have a look at Escobar. If the ground comes up soft he has on ratings the second best form in the race for his win on champions day. It’s not a great lineup after the top 2 and with serious doubts about their ability and even participation on soft ground this race could really cut up. Even as it stands Escobar is the 5th highest rated in the field.
The only horse with better from on soft is Century Dream and I think this speedier mile is less likely to suit him than Escobar.
Escobar has run well the last 2 times at Goodwood and the last 2 times on soft ground.
His last run at York we’d need to forget but his form at York is very patchy. The race was not run at any pace early on either which wouldn’t have suited him ideally.
David O’Meara’s in horrible form it seems which is a big negative but if this race does cut up, Escobar won’t need to beat many home to place.
Looking back at his Lennox 3rd he looked a seriously good horse in that race. He’s worth a chance at big odds currently.
Escobar 25/1 EW
August 25, 2020 at 23:58 #1498812I like Escobar as well Frenchy, bet him a couple of times the last 12 months, including that disappointing run at the weekend, but happy to go in again here.
Escobar 25’s EW
August 26, 2020 at 07:59 #1498823He’s 66s to sneak a place in the QEII also VTC, put up a career best on champions day last year, might be worth a few quid antepost before Saturday!
August 26, 2020 at 13:05 #1498840The going has changed at Goodwood to soft, good to soft in places and that is before heavy rain is due to hit. Benbatl won’t be running with the change in going. I am sure after more rain the going will be soft and that makes the race even harder to work out.
August 26, 2020 at 21:12 #1498870Money for both Escobar and Century Dream today.
August 27, 2020 at 04:24 #1498982Century Dream ew. 3 places.
August 27, 2020 at 07:37 #1498983Yeah I added him at 9/2 last night just in case Escobar runs a dog! They are the only decent soft ground performers here

7 declared including surprisingly Benbatl.
Going is now G/S with rain forecast for later today.
August 27, 2020 at 11:42 #1498995f*** me, Escobar isn’t even running, he was jocked up and everything. Damn it!! Lost the cash out chance as well.
Will try and win that back on Century Dream. Benbatl and even Regal Reality could both still come out with a ground change. I see Goodwood have tactically called it Good To Soft this morning, so they could both get declared probably. Century Dream now 5/1 and is the only horse with strong soft form.
Century Dream 5/1
August 27, 2020 at 11:57 #1498998Duke of Hazzard for me, but the prospect of a Rule 4 is probably enough for me not to go in too heavily. A bet for interest more than anything else.
