November 6, 2022 at 18:55 #1622051Ian dury and the blockheads song comes to mind yet again….
Can you guess what it is?November 6, 2022 at 20:48 #1622065Well it’s not Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick ( new whip rules) , or Sex and Drugs and Rock n Roll (first part right but Lasix banned and not very rock n roll to be hustled quickly off to stud). Reasons for the (already rich owners) to be Cheerful?
November 6, 2022 at 21:09 #1622067All would fit in nicely greenasgrass!
This is the one I’ve got in mind, Willie Haggas can hum along to it too all the way to the bank.
November 6, 2022 at 22:28 #1622071Too right Sam..this one also sprang to mind…
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 9, 2022 at 16:31 #1622379Siruh du lac David pip trained aged 9, has been retired following his run on 4th November at Exeter when he was pulled up

November 10, 2022 at 14:10 #1622447Alpinista has been retired following a setback.
November 10, 2022 at 16:21 #1622455This retirement trend is very worrying. Luxembourg would have gone to stud had he won the arc or gone close. With so many retiring it seems like 3 year olds will never get a better chance of winning the all aged group ones. Vadeni and Luxembourg will be very competitive in the middle distance group ones but a decent filly with the allowances will be hard to beat.
Maybe I’m too much of an old fart but I so miss the days of dahlia, triptych etc competing for years at the top level and turning in some great performances. Recently Highland reel was a regular including two hong kong vases.
I fear racing could have a bleak future if this mad dash to make stallions isn’t reversed and I can see a season where there are very few top older colts and should the three year old be well below standard flat racing could lose a lot of its followers. The signs are there already with falling attendance figures and I can only seeing it getting worse. I’m hoping to go to the Chester may meeting and many a star has been unearthed there,St Nicholas Abbey winning the ormonde one of my favs. Im sure coolmore will send loads of decent horses there but wont be much else.I can see the obrien/Appleby domination continuing and that is not good for racing IMHO. I feel better now after my wee rant.🤣November 10, 2022 at 19:08 #1622471Benbatl retired to stand in Japan. Agree about premature retirement Micky but this fellow has had a proper career and I wish him well in his new role.
November 11, 2022 at 02:02 #1622494Its nothing new the retirement thing (Flightline was a given for me not to come back) and most of the horses you mentioned were mares who will more than likely stay in training at 4 & 5 as opposed to a colt due to the financial rewards.
Re Highland Reel, he didn’t appear to be Coolmore’s main Derby 3yr old as he went to the French Guineas & French Derby and was beaten in each of his first 3 starts at 3, so he was always going to be a likely candidate for staying in training especially as two of his three wins as a 3yr old were overseas in US & Hong Kong.
Although with the likes of Coolmore/Godolphin who tend to have a lot of firepower in the 3yr old division there is more of a chance of their better 3 yr olds staying in training and although it didn’t really pay off we did have Adayar & Hurricane Lane as 4 yr olds this year when they could have easily been retired (I believe both are set to come back as 5 yr olds, fingers crossed with more success).
We also have this year’s Derby winner Desert Crown (who quite easily could have been retired) coming back at 4 along with the Irish Derby winner Westover and Inspiral so not all doom and gloom.
November 11, 2022 at 13:29 #1622527Luxembourg and vadeni possibly the best of the three year old IMHO. Definitely not all doom and gloom but a worrying trend happening.
November 11, 2022 at 15:38 #1622549Vadeni I would tend to agree with but for me the jury is still out on Luxembourg – for me Desert Crown is probably the best of them all but was not able to prove it but with Stoute’s ability with older horses you would have to think that there is a lot of improve still to come being that he has only had 3 lifetime starts…..assuming he shows no ill effects from his injury.
November 15, 2022 at 09:50 #1623183I didn’t see any announcement but Desert Encounter has obviously been retired as the National Horse Racing Museum posted a photo of him and he’s about to start retraining for his new career. Age finally caught up with him this year but what a career he’s had!
November 18, 2022 at 18:34 #1623562Lisnagar Oscar retired today.
I know we all love him, but after today’s pull-up, is it time that Regal Encore was on this list?
November 20, 2022 at 10:49 #1623944Kia Joorabchian, who is on Luck On Sunday at the moment, has confirmed that Persian Force has been retired to stud.
November 20, 2022 at 20:14 #1623998“Lisnagar Oscar retired today.”
