Wishing Santini a long and happy retirement.

His career is certainly a sign of the changing times. He retires aged 10 and having never had any long absences due to injury, yet raced under Rules a mere 18 times.

I am sad we will not get to see him race again, especially after his brilliant performance at Aintree.

11yo Moscato, who fell in the American Grand National and was walked off, has been officially retired. He made his first 21 starts in England, spending time in the barn of Sir Mark Prescott and Oliver Sherwood. In the US he was 2017 NSA Champion Novice Hurdler and was Eclipse Champion Steeplechaser for the COVID-shortened 2020 season. He was at his best on the quick ground at Saratoga and Belmont, a real shame he couldn’t run up there this year because of their asinine age rule (horses 10 and up barred from running at NYRA tracks) that doesn’t have an exception for jumpers.

For info here is a video of SANTINI going around his first one day event.

He is being ridden by William Fox-Pitt, multiple Olympic / World medalist.

Nuts Well took a hideous fall at Wetherby last Friday. Connections are reporting that he suffered severe facial injuries and his racing days are over, though they are optimistic he can be saved, and he is destined for a life at home with them.

What a marvellous horse he has been, and it is a sad end to his wonderful career.

Poor Nuts Well, it sounds like a horrendous injury. I hope he makes a good recovery and gets to enjoy a long life in the fields.

Speedy recovery Nuts Well, so glad they were able to save him. Sad that he ended up this way but at least he is still here and with lots of TLC will soon be kicking his heels in his field again…

    Happy retirement Stormy Antarctic.
Winner of the wettest Craven Stakes I have ever witnessed and nobody who attended the racecourse knew who had won the race as the racecourse blacked out minutes before the start due to a lightning strike on top of the grandstand and the biggest clap of thunder I have ever heard. The Tote was down, the big screens were black and we all waited soaked to the skin to see who went into the winners enclosure.
