"I was at the cheltenham preview after racing at sandown yesterday and nicky henderson never mentioned any allergy or that binocular might even miss the race. pretty poor. no excuse for keeping the public in the dark over such a high profile horse."

Found this quote on another website…can anyone confirm this?. Unbelievable that a trainer would not even tell the public after racing last night.

So what, McManus has the right to treat punters with contempt even if that isn’t true.

Punters are punters, they are not the holy grail – all they do is place money on the horses so why should there be this "community" to protect their welfare – who pays the horses training fees, who pays the price when they die, who foots the vet bills etc – not the punters I can assure you!, once the race is over it’s on to the next.

Sod the punters opinion, it’s worth feck all.

Lets face it the whole event has not been helpful to the race goer and punter alike and by keeping them in the dark about the allergy/injury issue so close to the event is not great PR on the part of connections.
I read somewhere on the internet yesterday that AP was supposed to have just recently said that Binocular was on fire! I seriously doubt he would ever say that and it was just media hype ….but the people that have backed Binocular antepost before the nrnb rules have lost their money and must now be very annoyed and quite rightly so…perhaps the trainer will offer to give them their money back!

All those who will not say a bad word of henderson are fools. He may not be bent but he cleary is completely idiotic and devoid of any management skills.

What a joke, he has made a mockery out of the sport. Two days before one of the biggesrt races of the year and the most eagerly awaited champion hurdle in years.

What a complete and utter moran!! I backed peddlers cross anyway so Im more annoyed that this will now take something away from his pending victory.

Also do any of you know the situation with ladbrokes on rule 4’s in their antepost market while it was no runner no bet??

Any mention of the substance(s) being found ‘over’?

Here we go again. Is this a discussion restricted to the dumb and dumber? How about displaying some intelligence before hitting the send button? Please!

Henderson would have applied the medication on the advice of vets. The vets would have supplied a guideline for the witholding period for the medication. That guidleline would have been published by the drug company. While the guidelines for witholding periods try to be as accurate as possible every animal is different and some will simply break down the substance quicker or more slowly than others.

The drug was applied with the realistic expectation that it would be out of the system come raceday. It came to light that another horse had tested positive for that drug outside the witholding period. This sounded alarm bells. In light of recent incidents involving the stable Henderson did the only thing professionally possible and had Binocular tested.

The trainer, connections and the BHB were on a lose/lose ticket here. More so given the recent trouble for the stable and the events surrounding Binocular prior to the 2010 Champion. Damned if they speak up damned if they don’t. This again highlights a situation where punters believe every medication given to every racehorse should be public knowledge. Be careful though. Too much knowledge can be a dangerous thing. A shame some are displaying anything but knowledge on this thread. Some commenting here should be ashamed of themselves.

    Bit surprised at this sentiment.
Where does the Levy come from if not from punters’ pockets?
Granted, most owners don’t make money from racing, so they’re net contributors, too.
    Nevertheless ….

Come on, it’s shame for you if you’ve lost money but that’s the nature of betting ante-post.

Poorly horse, given medication, not gone out of his body, can’t run. It’s not a trainers job to personally constantly update the world on the state of all his horses, now is it? We might like it to be, but really it’s not.

Why would we be ashamed. We dont have the previous rap **** for doping horses or being banned as a trainer for a period of time, or horses being ruled out of races 1 month before the race and then decided to be run. We have not ruled the champion hurdle favorite out because of the wrong sort of medicine. How incompetent is Nicky Henderson and his team?? That is the primary issue

The secondary issue is the lack of clarity on the situation…if this has been going on for 2 weeks then surely the betting public needs to understand the issue and then form their own opinion on the matter. The fact that all this news has come out in a 5 minute press talk is disgraceful yet telling everyone jockey and trainer that he is perfectly fine when he is clearly not.

Talk about fergal lynch etc….someone has to act on this issue sooner rather than later. Their should be some sort of ethics code brought into racing. When vast sums of money traded each day on 100s of markets…some sort of regulatory system has to be in place otherwise the thing is going to the dogs. If Henderson told a preview at Sandown that nothing is wrong with his horse he is a

    LIAR

AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH

EDIT: The fact the BHA Colluded with Henderson to keep this in the dark is unacceptable. They should read their own rules on insider information. The Game has been brought into disrepute.

More to this than mentioned on this thread ….betfair drift being investigated , insider dealing suspected

Some questions as to why the betting public were kept in the dark whilst the BHA and the trainer tried desperately to do the right thing, looks like that has backfired in spades

The perception of punters be damned is clear here , unfortunate as that is …RFC will be just loving this , their big showpiece is tarnished already without a fence being jumped in anger

What a sad mess , heads will have to roll……

The BHA conveniently ignore the millions that are traded on BF on the market.

Outside of Betfair very few punters will have been affected (in reality only those who backed Binocular on ante-post rules since the horse became sick) but that’s not the point really.

I presume the British press will continue their love-in with the Henderson yard.

The BHA knew the favourite for the most important hurdle race of the year had returned a positive test last Thursday, yet said nothing until their hand was forced by the declarations this morning.

"There was a lot of information to gather so the earliest we could have said anthing was Friday afternoon. Secondly, there was a genuine expectation that the levels of the substance would come down as testing went on but it didn’t. A key factor was the fact that every bookiewas by then NRNB on all Cheltenham races," he said.

…and meanwhile fortunes are traded on the horse.

Silvoir, I know your only the messenger, but frankly that’s pathetic.

Also i like to mention the bookmakers who are being pursued by the BHA ironically come out of this superbly well for refunding bets which they had no right to do. Bookmakers will obviously do this as a gesture to keep the Festival anticaption rolling for their big turnover 4 days of the year but all the same they have come out of this looking rather polished and sincere.
