Whether it was deliberate surely has no bearing anyway

The interference was still caused either way

No doubt in my mind Kitty’s Light had that sewn up. Little consolation in being given second place instead. He’ll have his day eventually!

Agree with FinalFurlong, I don’t think ‘intent’ comes in to it.

Problem is the handicapper will probably stick kitty’s light up a good few lbs the way they are these days

Doubly punishing connections, not getting the win and getting the hike up the ratings

I read the small print and queried FPTP with them. Apparently there were some issues on the market settlement for this race with them with any errors to be rectified. So i will see.

    Stewards Enquiry Report

‘An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line when the winner, ENRILO (FR), ridden by Harry Skelton, interfered with KITTY’S LIGHT, placed third, ridden by Jack Tudor. The Stewards considered that the interference had improved ENRILO (FR)’s placing as KITTY’S LIGHT, who had made up significant ground having jumped the last to get within a diminishing ½ length of ENRILO (FR) at the time of the incident, had taken a significant bump and was taken off its intended line for several strides, losing all forward momentum. Taking into account where the interference occurred in relation to the finish line, it was felt that KITTY’S LIGHT would have finished ahead of ENRILO (FR) but for the interference and therefore the placings were revised as follows: First, POTTERMAN, Second, KITTY’S LIGHT, Third, ENRILO (FR), Fourth, EL PRESENTE. Skelton was suspended for 4 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift left-handed without timely correction causing interference to KITTY’S LIGHT.’

Although it affected the result a 4 day suspension is extremely harsh, in my opinion.

Surely there has to be a means of changing the result without an offence occurring. If the stewards had not placed the ‘blame’ on Harry Skelton then Enrilo would presumably have kept the race. It must have put them in a tough position.

Presumably the stewards were on piece work because they also reported…

‘Shortly after passing the winning post on the first circuit, ENRILO (FR), placed third, shifted right carrying PLAN OF ATTACK (IRE), placed seventh, on to the winner, POTTERMAN, causing Sam Twiston-Davies, the rider of CHECKITOUT (IRE), which was later pulled up, to steady his mount on the rail, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of ENRILO (FR).

Turning out of the home straight on the final circuit, the winner, POTTERMAN, stepped right causing IRISH PROPHECY (IRE), which was later pulled up, to be shifted right and result in Sam Twiston-Davies, the rider of CHECKITOUT (IRE), which was later pulled up, having to take a significant check against the rail, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of POTTERMAN.’

Totally disagree with a jockey ban for that. Ridiculous.

Pretty certain bookies do not pay on both results with Ante Post bets.

    rob,

Plenty that have been changed don’t involve a riding offence. It’s a separate issue. Doubt Harry Skelton will be too bothered about the ban after the busy time he’s had. He wont miss much and probably would have had some time off anyway. Will be more annoyed about losing yesterday’s race. I see Paul Nicholls is pondering an appeal, he will be wasting his time if he does, no chance of getting that reversed.

How come the stewards haven’t got the power to promote Kitty’s Light to 1st place?
afterall they came to the conclusion the horse would have definitely won

They shouldn’t have that power Nathan, it would be totally wrong. All they can and should be able to do is what they did yesterday. You can’t promote a horse in front of another based just on opinion if no interference has occurred between those two horses.
They didn’t need to decide that Kitty’s Light would have definitely won, they only needed to decide that on the balance of probability he would have finished in front of Enrilo without the interference.

Seems a bit backward that the 3rd best horse in the race won

A similar situation happened over hurdles at Punchestown a few years ago- Cuneo, ridden by Rachel Blackmore passed the post first but was deemed to have interfered with Relegate ridden by Ruby Walsh who passed the post third. The beneficiary was Satoshi with Russell on board who wasn’t involved in the interference and split the other two passing the post.
    Final placings were
    1. Satoshi
    2. Relegate
    3. Cuneo

Others may know better, but I’m pretty sure that the placings can only be changed if a riding offence is identified. As far as I know if interferebce is deened ‘accidental’ then places can’t be changed.
