Percussion is the obvious one for me. Bet him a couple of times round here, and he’s the exact type I want for this. 10’s is fair I reckon, and although he’s the type that seems to always find a couple too good, I’ve bet him anyway.
Also near the head of the market is Make Me A Believer, and he’s a potentially unexposed one.
Coko Beach always gets a good word from me, and this trip round here, looks ideal. He was more forward then I expected last time.
I’ve always been a big fan of Royal Pagaille, and would love to see him round here, but difficult to be with him Antepost when he’s got a few other entries.
There’s a few at 33’s I like. Annual Invictus is not the most reliable, but can put in the odd good run, while Wayfinder looks way too big off his last run.
I could be tempted by Wayfinder, but he’s got plenty of other options, and the same applies to Moroder, who I think will win another big handicap this year, but unfortunately has other engagements right now.
Percussion the early bet, and I’ll probably add another from those mentioned
Percussion 10’s
November 18, 2023 at 15:54 #1670924I’ve had an ante-post here with Fantastic Lady at 12-1
November 25, 2023 at 16:00 #1671794I thought that 33-1 was too big a price for The Big Breakaway, so he’s my ap bet.
I like your bet Jeff on Fantastic Lady too
November 25, 2023 at 16:22 #1671802Percussion 9-1 ew
November 30, 2023 at 17:10 #1672273Ashtown Lad for me at 10-1 as I think he should be the fav
December 1, 2023 at 04:04 #1672316I’ve always felt there was a big race in Highland Hunter. He’s 12 across
the boards at the moment, but I’d expect someone to stick their neck out
a bit on him. I’ll keep a watch and if it looks like 12s is as good as it
gets I’ll take that.December 3, 2023 at 22:15 #1672662I’ve got highland Hunter in some each way doubles with others in the Welsh national.
Just a bit concerned the trips a bit on the short side for him.
Wouldn’t be averse to having a couple of quid on Annual invictus if there was strong vibes he was going to be taking part.
Far from sure about half the field quoted in the betting are gonna be declared though!!
December 4, 2023 at 11:54 #1672683This looks likely to cut up, and I’m not convinced we’ll be left with the storngest of renewals once they get to the tape. It should be an open renewal all the same though.
Ashtown Lad running of just 2lb more looks like a gift, and Percussion must surely land one of these races sooner rather than later, but I’m happy to shop around for a bigger price.
Threeunderthrufive is my main hope, granted he’s priced accordingly. He’s gone up 3lbs for his Wincanton run, but I think he’s a solid 150 horse, so I don’t think it’s beyond him. Paul Nichols doesn’t get involved in handicap chess, so I think he’ll be fine tuned for this.
Chambard was a little hard done by to go up 4lbs for his Cheltenham run, but with the yard flying, and the potential for a bit of cut in the ground; I’d be tempted by the 16’s.
Celebre D’Allen has gone up 10lbs for that win last time out, which seems harsh given the way the race fell apart, however there’s no denying he did it fairly easily. Does he have 10lbs of improvement in him at 11? Probably not, but he got a run around here in the Topham, which wouldn’t have done his chances any harm.

I dont think Threeunderthrufive is running in this. Cant see in the latest betting.Havent a view yet, personally, but i’d imagine the ground will be very soft, heavy, with the week’s weather forecast indicating copious amounts of the wet stuff.
December 4, 2023 at 12:49 #1672687I was typing as the confirmations were coming in. The 16’s about Celebre D’Allen are all gone too, so I’ve had a bit of a shocker these last 45 minutes!

December 6, 2023 at 07:05 #1672870The Network horses have a decent record in the race. Three by Network have run and all have placed at some point with a 2nd, 3rd and 4th between them.
December 7, 2023 at 11:55 #1672962Percussion is 6 pounds wrong. Trainer hasn’t put a claimer on unfortunately for us backers.
December 7, 2023 at 13:40 #1672965I’m very surprised to see Moroder last in the betting, granted he was pulled up on his comeback run but his trainer said he’d need it and the fav was also PU on his comeback we just know he likes the fences. I think as a factor being proven over the fences is massively overrated by the betting public myself. Moroder has very good form from the backend of last season, was progressing nicely as a staying chaser, just needs to get back to that sort of form. More than happy to take a chance at the prices.
December 7, 2023 at 14:58 #1672972I’ve also found myself taking another look at Moroder. I figured he was going for the London National when I saw he was 50/1, but alas. I’m going to Aintree on Saturday, and he screams ‘token on course bet’ to me.
December 7, 2023 at 17:16 #1672980From what I gather Peter they want to get him to Aintree for the big one so its giving him experience of the fences, Sandown would have been an obvious port of call given he ran so well in the Whitbread or whatever you call it these days and that race looks a fair bit weaker than this. He could do with winning or running well if the National is the plan given the cut in the field size.
December 8, 2023 at 00:52 #1673002Was desperate to bet Moroder for this all week, but couldn’t with that Sandown entry.
Got to bet him here, even if if I’ve got the suspicion that he may need another run to get him spot on. Bet him a few times last year, and already made the shortlist for The National.
Betting Coko Beach too. This seems an unusual target for him off current mark, but then they seem to have him miles ahead of where they had him before. I genuinely liked him for The Savills, and might be reading too much into it, but they just seem to taking a slightly different approach with him this year, and even off top weight, I can see him figuring.
I was interested in the two Crawford horses for The Grand Sefton, and that’s still the case here. Even from out the weights, Dorking Cock in particular looks a fair old price
Had already bet Percussion, but can’t have three in this, so I’ll be laying him back, hopefully for profit
**Just kept Percussion**
