St Nicholas Abbey ran a shocker first up this season so maybe he’ll come on for that.
September 14, 2011 at 16:26 #370939Maybe if Joseph were to ride him he,SNA, would improve.
September 16, 2011 at 12:09 #371084Ballydoyle is a large complex with several stable areas. Yes, 2 year-olds are separate from the older horses; with careful management it should be possible to stop cross-infection.

Judging from what I saw at Longchamp on Sunday, the rider is irrelevant. He looked a picture in the paddock, but once put under pressure he ran – yet again – as if something was physically bothering him. It’s probably time to draw stumps on the
SNA
project – he won his 4yo Group 1 at Epsom after all, and that looks as good as it’s going to get.
September 16, 2011 at 12:47 #371089Getting St Nicholas Abbey back to be able to win a group one at 4 must be considered one of Aidan’s finer accomplishments.
While not "useless" as described on another thread, he would definitely appeal to German breeders and could see Coolmore leasing or selling him to give him better opportunities.

I wonder. How attractive are sons of
Montjeu
likely to be to anyone as stallion prospects? For nearly all of them, temperament has compromised ability; and although
SNA
runs as if there’s something physically wrong, what’s going on in his head might be pretty complex too!
I’m not sure that any of
Montjeu
‘s offspring have really set the breeding world alight thus far.
Hurricane Run
??
Memphis Tennessee
is his top earner so far, and nothing from him has won at better than Group 3 level to date.
September 16, 2011 at 16:40 #371102Seems like Montjeu just gets Derby winners and Champion Hurdle winners. Most normal people would settle for either.Studs are for the mighty.Coolmore are just lucky not to have competition for his blood line.

I asked how attractive
sons
of
Montjeu
were as stud prospects, not the main man himself. What’s
not
proven, is whether his offspring are passing on the ability to go with their sire’s temperament.
September 16, 2011 at 18:14 #371116While I can understand your questioning of the commercial viability of Montjeu’s sons as stallions, the fact remains St Nicholas Abbey was the top rated 2yo of 2009 and managed to win a Group 1 as a 4yo. I can see his pedigree appealing to German breeders and their stoutly bred mares. Monsun and Tiger Hill mares would both be suitable mating partners.
Whether it will happen I dont know, but I daresay the Coolmore operation would find offers for him if they were to look down that road.

Your point is well taken. He certainly won’t have much of a commercial future here in the UK and/or Ireland, surely. Only I feel German breeders might be put off by the lack of success of other Montjeu stallions, at least to date – but we’ll see.
September 16, 2011 at 21:08 #371135At the end of the day it is all about money. I am not suer that he is finished racing for this year yet.He might go for the Champion Stakes.I believe there is still another win in him.He beat Midday rather easily I thought.

Only because she’d had to go after
Dandino
earlier than she wanted. 12F is the absolute limit of her stamina, and she’s never been a Spring horse.
SNA
was hanging and struggling a furlong out. He looked lucky to get back up that day, as the mare had been in front too long and got very tired in the last few yards. If he does win again, it certainly won’t be in the
Champion Stakes
(if it deserves the name) on Ascot’s round course, and probably in the mud.
Personally I doubt whether we’ll see him again. I rather think they hoped he would be good enough for the
Arc
, allowing them to reserve
So You Think
for the
Champion Stakes
… but it is not to be.
September 17, 2011 at 12:57 #371204Many Arc runners do like he did in his most recent race in Paris. The jockey never asked him to win that race. It was a prep race for the Arc and nothing more.I feel sure they at Ballydoyle were very happy with that race.I believe he will run in the Arc but of course it is up to big John.

I think you were watching a different race, wearing spectacles tinted with pink. He was the fittest of the four horses in the paddock,
Sarafina
the least so. Of course
SNA
was ridden to win the
Foy
, which was not run at a dawdle so he wasn’t done just for speed. He was done for stamina as well, and ran like a horse with physical problems. There’s no way that
SNA
can beat
Sarafina
in the
Arc
, given a clear run for the latter, and Ballydoyle will be all too well aware of the fact. If you want to take the 50-1 against
SNA
offered by Skybet, you’re welcome!
September 17, 2011 at 17:29 #371232Did the jockey ever lay the whip on SNA during the race?

Most certainly. Watch what happens as they come into the straight and
SNA
goes to pass
Nakayama Festa
. From that point on until he’s beaten (about 200 yds out) he gets a good few smacks from Soumillon. Finished very lathered, tired as he came in too. He won’t run in the
Arc
, except perhaps as a pacemaker for
SYT
.

Round
" if taken in conjunction with his other comments (about how well he now settles) – is sending out a warning – that he is now complete!
The real deal, a marvel of perfection… & "ready" to take on the world! Not long now…
