fallon nearly always got the choice of horse right when he was there in fairness to him eg. dylan thomas in the arc who started at 11/2 and soldier of fortune was 10/3.also his choice to stay at home and ride oratorio in a hot irish champion stakes when it would have been easier to ride hot favourite scorpion in the leger just shows how well he knew the horses and what they were capable of.
July 20, 2011 at 18:15 #365297Not having a continual #1, riding out and riding horses in major races, will clearly have a negative effect, as no relationship is allowed to develop between horse and rider. Murtagh is sorely missed.
July 20, 2011 at 21:38 #365314Ballydoyle is basically screwed up right now with a yard of blue blood horses and no legitimate first jockey.Maybe the yard is too big and needs to be split up like the Godolphin yard.
Andyod, to be honest I thought this thread was just a fishing expidition and maybe it is but suggesting Ballydoyle should follow Godolphin’s racing strategy is startling. The Dubai outfit having done so well Vs Ballydoyle these last 10 years.
July 21, 2011 at 04:53 #365331In what way are the three year olds at Ballydoyle better than last year?Godolphin have won two classics in England and Ireland since they split up. Is that bad? I am waiting to see who gets the ride on SNA.three days before the race and no jockey. Is that getting "the best available"? Most jockeys have Saturday stiched up long before now. This is the biggest stable in the world with no world class jockey? I cannot believe it.Magnier must be losing interest in Ballydoyle and focusing on Andre Fabre.Seems like his main interest is giving Aidan proven horses from Australia to get global coverage and Group One honors in Europoe.Horses so good that it does not matter who rides them.
July 21, 2011 at 12:33 #365351Maybe things will be brought to a head by the St Nicholas Abbey King George booking because 5 runner Group 1s,inexperienced jockeys and slightly quirky looking horses don’t always mix…..and tactically there will be nowhere to hide on Saturday.
July 21, 2011 at 12:54 #365352I think it is not the jockeys that are the problem with Ballydoyle. It’s restricting the jockeys to orders and pre-planned tactics that are often wrong. What the hell were they doing holding up the stayer Seville in the English Derby? Same for Fame And Glory when he ran in the race, tried to out-speed Guineas winner Sea The Stars. So You Think when he ran in the Prince Of Wales, why make it in to a stamina test when your main rivals want a stamina test? All these might be jockey error, but it seems to me more likely pre-arranged tactics. Aidan is a superb trainer, but should allow jockeys more scope to use their brains.
Value Is EverythingJuly 21, 2011 at 14:40 #365357Oh it’s well known and has been for years that their race tactics are downright laughable. Goodness knows how many times they’ve sent off a pacemaker far too fast and he’s been ignored by the field. The 2009 Derby was the most farcical bit of pacemaking I’ve ever seen. 2 horses at the front and still went at a crawl. Pacemaking is a real art, and to do it effectively you simply must run a horse of merit. Jan Vermeer is a decent pacemaker to have as he’s not a bad horse in his own right.
July 21, 2011 at 14:41 #365358I remember Paddy Mullins trying to put up his son Tony in the GC on Dawn Run and the owner insisting on JJ O’N riding the mare.Where is Spencer,Hughes,Fallon,Murtagh,(and the group one jockeys from France.)? Any wonder they all left the yard plus Kinane.I am saddened by this turn of events.
July 21, 2011 at 14:44 #365359Maybe Hughes did not leave but he has been a go to jockey in the past.
July 21, 2011 at 15:02 #365360Gingertipster you are basically saying what I have been saying since Murtagh left. Also it seems to me that Aidan has a "people problem" when it comes to sharing the glory of Ballydoyle. This is not about Aidan and his son this is about Ballydoyle and training winners.I drew attention some place else to the over cooked instructions that world class jockeys are given before their races.I stand to lose a lot of money if SNA is beaten and am dismayed at the decision to put up an apprentice.
July 21, 2011 at 15:14 #365361God, I hadn’t realised Joseph was on him. Jesus wept. This’ll end in tears.
July 21, 2011 at 15:40 #365362Let him ride.
He shows more competence that plenty of the above mentioned.
They owners obviously trust him. He has never failed them.
Who says he lose because of the jockey??…if he is good enough joseph will win on him.
July 21, 2011 at 16:23 #365365Dear RiGitS be kind enough which of those mentioned is Joseph as good as.He is as good as Murtagh? He is as good as Fallon? He is as good as the world class French jockeys available to Coolmore,Oliver Peslier , Gerald Mosse or Chris Soumillon, not mentioned by name? He is as good as your first choice earlier, Heffernan? As good as Hughes? As good as Spencer? As good as the two apprentices that he shared the title with? Why not one of them? Now it will be the horses fault if Joseph does not win.I would say it will be the horses credit if he does win.Total rationalisation. This has to be the greatest line of wishful thinking that I have read in the forum in a long time.Would you have accepted the short anti post price for the horse two weeks ago if you knew that Joseph was riding him?
July 21, 2011 at 16:38 #365366So You Think when he ran in the Prince Of Wales, why make it in to a stamina test when your main rivals want a stamina test?
I guess that you are talking with hindsight there? (If not and you foretold it on your tips thread – fair dues!!)
Was ‘Rewilding’ considered a rival? A main one offered @ double figure odds?!Truth is before the race it was seen by many as a two horse deal with ‘Plantr’ being put forward as the one to trail SYT home!
Don’t you all remember??…those bookie reps before the race saying how ‘Plantr’ was the eachway steal!! – the golden ew bet to nothing!
A little like they did with ‘Buena Vista’ before the Dubai World Cup…The thing is!
One of ’em couldn’t help himself and kept quoting how Soumi said that he jumped off ‘Plantr’ last time and said that he has sooo much speed/pace that he could win over a mile!!
– And guess what?? That’s what they’re looking at next for him!!
Wouldn’t it be nice to see ‘Canford’ tracked by ‘Plantr’ @ Longchamps in the Moulin? The stalker being stalked?!! – Side topic! The point of this post is – BallyD weren’t worried about anyone else – except ‘P’!
They wanted to run the guts out of him fearing that the toe of ‘Planter’ might get them – whilst playing into the hands of ‘Rewilding’… I can’t see any others in the field other than him who a strong pace would have suited!!Again – as it was in Paris – a no win situation!
Who says he lose because of the jockey??…if he is good enough joseph will win on him.
Fair said!
July 21, 2011 at 16:45 #365369Joseph rode the pants off Hughsie. Winning a Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas in his first major ride on a 4/1 shot and dictated like Dettori with a proven clock in his head.
Pesiler this is the same guy who disgraced himself by putting 2lb overweight on the great horse Goldikova. A unprofessional senior jockey twice his age.
Murtagh…who was involved in schooling last night at Naas with his disgraceful rides on Alanza etc
Spencer who couldn’t live with the pressure at Ballydoyle and threw numerous Group 1s away because he panicked unlike Joesph.
Soullimon who disgraced himself publicly by calling Andre Fabre a twat. Who can only ride one way….and is loathed by all his peers.
Fallon a guy who has been given more chance in life than a cat and throw it back in Coolmore face time after time with his clearly disgraceful behaviour. Once again embarraing AOB at the Epsom Derby meeting. AOB also was seething with the dopey ride he gave Wonder of Wonders giving the winner a uncontested lead off a slow pace.
I back Joey O Brien any day….any race….any price. He is pure class. He is a brilliant horseman and jockey and knows this horse inside out since Sam Curling left Ballydoyle on a part time basis as his workrider.
Joesph will not be found wanting
July 21, 2011 at 17:17 #365373I drive to work every day in my car. Does that make me a GP driver? Dear RiGinS Joseph ran into the rail in Kerry. Does that make him a bad jockey? No.One mistake does not rule out anyone.Soumillon may have bad manners but as a jockey he
is world class. As for carryong overweight I would not go there with Joseph.Interesting to hear your assault on the others though.I guess in the light of what you say Aidan had no other choice. But I thought you wanted Heffernan. Don’t you remember?July 21, 2011 at 17:37 #365375I would have said Heff because he gave So You Think a great great ride in the Eclipse.
I for one second would not have thought they jock up Joseph but that doesn’t mean i didn’t think he was good enough.
I want Ballydoyle Jockeys riding Ballydoyle horses. Doesn’t matter if it was McCabe or John Reid 10lb claimer or Heff or Murtagh at his hay day.
I don’t want blow ins like Pat Smullen etc….When did Pat Smullen last ride a Group 1 winner?.
Joseph is well up to it and will be able to make 9-7 with ease.
If Joseph wins on St Nick this weekend….i have no doubt nothing in the History of Aidan O Brien’s career or John Magnier will match the joy and happyness and greatness this would give team Ballydoyle.
Its its meant to be….it will happen
