Also the USA focus idea does have some extra possible credibility given the doubts about long term viability of the Middle Eastern market.
May 11, 2010 at 13:28 #295282Betweem Montjeu and Galileo they have at least two to follow Danehill and SW.Oratorio and High Chaparral have started like rockets so I don’t think there will be any noticable loss of impact at the track.Has anyone noticed in the last interview with Aidan not a word about Fencing Master? Or Beethoven for that matter! They were both very promising last year
May 12, 2010 at 23:50 #15048I started a tread some time back when I suggested that there was a "Bug" at Ballydoyle.I simply suggested that the reason that the horses trained there were running so poorly was that they had a bug. One person seemed to agree with me. Everyone else disagreed.Going so far as to suggest that the downfall of the property market in Ireland was the reason why the horses were not winning! Yesterday Cabaret started fav. and ended up 7th of 8.Starspangledbanner started jfav and ended up 5th of 12 in a sprint.I have no idea how Cape Blanco will run today but if I were a betting guy I would run for my life…away.I am familiar with the bug and until it is cured there will be moments when horses run like they are well.(see Midas Touch on Sunday) However until all the horses are running as they should for at least a month the cure has not arrived.Nothing will appear at home on the gallops because it is only at the business end of the race that the effect can be seen. In fact I had a trainer once ask me if my horse was a sprinter, not a stayer. It is only when a serious question is asked you will discover that the horse is still not right(see Cabaret yesterday)We were told that Cape Blanco had a slight heel cut or something.I know it is his firat run nevertheless Midas Touch was on a first run so we will see. Beethoven is definitely coughing. Steinbeck must step up.(He is being trained all year especilly for the Irish Guineas).Fencingmaster is supposed to be going for the Irish Guineas,we will see. JanVermeer needs a race before the English Derby but not before the French one, figure that one out yourselves. Mickail Glinka had a setback! You’ill be Mine is out of the Oaks. After finishin 9th of 11 on her initial run and in front of Famous who started fav.and finished second last. Is there a bug at Ballydoyle ? Too many stone bruises; too many"setbacks" for my liking. Until proven otherwise by the running of the horses I withhold judgement and all bets. But if you ask me to get off the fence my answer is yes.Or maybe, just in the three- year- old barn. Then I got to thinking, could the visitor from Australia be the bearer of bad news!

Crikey what was wrong with adding this to the other thread on the same topic which appears just below on the list.
And as I said there it’s just a long Danehill/Sadler’s Wells hangover. Get used to it. The stable lacks speed these days no matter how much they spin to the contrary.

I think it’s too early to say that. I’d imagine O’Brien’s horses will be good for the business end of the season.
May 13, 2010 at 12:21 #295528Whatever the cause, you would have to say they are running poorly, more poorly than would be caused by a Danehill/Sadlers Wells hangover. These are the same horses that were winning group 1’s last year, showing plenty speed.
I don’t think they’ll have been at all happy with the way their horses have been running. I would doubt very much that it’s by design (i.e. that they are preparing them ALL for Autumn campaigns and such) and if it’s a simple case of them not being spot on then we should see a pick up very soon (halfway through May now).
How have the horses been improving for their second run – any stats 1st run Vs 2nd run anyone?

Yes definitely a bug it would seem… What complete non sense the idea was….
The only bug in racing is the training regieme of Godolphin, its been sick a long long time, another top class horse gone downhill under their care. Dear oh dear
May 13, 2010 at 13:45 #295534There was an excellent interview with Dessie Hughes before the National. he discussed having a bug in his yard for nearly ten years.I cannot trace it myself maybe someone could. Did any of our readers ever have a horse in a yard with the bug? I experienced it in three different yards. So I have some background to draw on for my observations.Horses will lose contact in the final stages of the race when asked for the big effort. We used to call it hitting the wall.Right up to then they are going nicely. So watch the Dante for the Ballydoyle horse in the final furlong. The Midas Touch won first time out so Cape Blanco must be fit.Since it is his first run it is difficult to draw any conclusions until his second run. Also every so often the horse with the bug has a good day and can win but he will be back to his old problem shortly after.Just saw the race. Excellent race.Up to last years form. Great performance. Now for his second run in the Derby.
May 13, 2010 at 13:54 #295537Big Bug
Just won the 2 most important Derby Trials in a week in Europe with 2 first time runners
May 13, 2010 at 14:31 #295542Interesting the price of both winners.Fours about both Midas Touch and Cape Blanco. How about that. Somebody was not confident enough to back the Ballydoyle horses coming back after a very good 2yo season.Just as surprised as the layers at this run, last year he did it in heavy ground.

Ive said a few times now how opinions like yours (i.e you think there is a bug) will have a possitive effect on their SP’s and to take advantage, hope some of you listened, I dont back horses but If I did I would selectively backing O Brien horses now and over the next few weeks.
Regarding his filly yesterday – well I would never trust O Brien in trials with a filly, wait until the big day if you like the horses, and once again her running yesterday will lead to a huge SP when she runs next (wherever Aiden feels is right)
Once again the bug idea was non sense, simple just a different training approach this year. Genuinely feel they will have thie rbest Autumn campaign in quite some time..

Are you related to Aiden O’Brien? you seem to know an awful lot about his operation.

As much as those suggessting there is/was a bug
May 13, 2010 at 19:00 #295572AOB in trouble with BHA after not allowing an inspection of Cape Blanco.
AOB seems to think he is above the rules of racing.
Makes you wonder what the vets would’ve found.
Value Is EverythingMay 13, 2010 at 20:05 #295582Coming up with a complete crock of cack- nul points.
Subjecting us to it twice- nul points.
You saw the Derby winner today, get yourself a few quid and abandon the half-baked theories.May 13, 2010 at 20:28 #295586AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 17716
Yes in fairness enough is enough, the idea was utter rubbish to begin with given the fact that you were largely basing your theory around their runners in the English trials (races Ballydoyle couldn’t care less about and never ever aim their first string at anyway)
There is no bug, just accept it and move on

Different rules for the big players in every sport im afraid, Ferguson gets away with murder in football given the abuse he gives to the officials.
Unfair I know but the big players will always feel they can get away with things, why? Because they usually do….
In this instance I would 1000000% agree with Aidans decision, Aidan is responsible for a pontetially multi million pound animal in his care, Coolmore have a team of their own vets and as such I am sure there was one present. Why on earth would he let another Vet near his animal and forfeit the care of his own team?????
Absolutely ridiculous asking for the horse to be trotted up and examined….
York stewards with too much time on their hands..
