BOGNOR, twice well beaten over further on turf since winning over CD off 5lb lower and returning from 157 days off, was fancied to be ready enough according to the market. Always up there, he looked like winning comfortably when sent for home off the final bend, but he was eventually forced to battle. This is his surface.
QUOTES Trainer Mick Appleby: Bognor is still a bit weak andhe should go in any surface. He should come on a bit for that.

SIGHORA moved easily before coming right away and got off the mark as she pleased. She had been absent from the track for 215 days and seemed handicapped about right on 78. Therefore while this was a very pleasing comeback, she didn´t have to better that mark and was obviously helped by the favourite bombing out

December 11, 2014 at 11:26 #498096I continued to work on the sectional times from Lingfield as supplied by
Turftrax
.
One important point to note is, I have corrected the formula Simon Rowlands uses to upgrade a horses time effort in pounds, he uses a constant of
1.25
, I replaced this with my going allowance, so if you now change the time % figure to 98.3%, in the (lbs diff) box you should see the figure "
0
".

WENTWORTH FALLS proved a different horse dropped back to this trip in first-time blinkers last time, and the question was whether the headgear would continue to work. Sitting in last off a good gallop, he cruised into contention and once again found a smart turn of foot to settle matters. He´s firmly on the upgrade and it won´t be long before he´s a three-figure horse at this rate.

PERSONA GRATA, off the same mark as when winning an apprentice race here the previous week, so 7lb well in, easily made it 3-3 (all at Wolverhampton). She was keen early but only really came under pressure fora few strides around the final bend, before cruising home up the straight. There´s no telling how far she could progress.

BURNHOPE was ridden with a bit more patience this time and travelled nicely into the race. Asked to pick up passing the 2f pole, he pulled right away once sent to the front and won this with a deal in hand. This was only his third win in 32 starts, but if still in the same mood he would take the beating if turning out under a penalty back here on Friday.

RAZIN´ HELL, returning from three months off, came into this with a record at Southwell of 2213113 including winning the nursery on this card last year. Very well backed beforehand, he made just about all the running and refused to be passed up the straight. He will always be of interest back here.

Comment:
The
Turftrax
sectional timing went tits up at lingfield yesterday, they had problems with 3 races, notably the 15.10 won by
Indus Valley
, where the winner returned no sectional times at all

Maybe the connections didn’t want anybody to note the horse’s sudden improvement and lost the transponder

INDUS VALLEY had slipped in the weights and shaped encouragingly in second over 7f at Kempton a fortnight beforehand. He won this a shade cosily in a sustained move from just off the pace in the straight.
Food for thought…

December 18, 2014 at 19:26 #498852Hi,
Rather than harrowing the usual 2 inches they harrowed 6 inches to mix more wax into the surface to aid its longevity. They did change the going from standard to standard to slow.

EXTREME SUPREME got off the mark in a maiden over C&D last month and made it 2-2 here courtesy of a cosy win. Fitted with a first-time visor, he broke well, before being hard ridden to get on top, but won eventually a shade snugly. He was entitled to win as the best horse in the race, but looks the type to keep one step ahead of the handicapper.
QUOTES Derek Shaw, trainer of Exteme Supreme: He was a real two-year-old but got jarred up at Chester on his second start. He suffered from an abscess in his foot earlier this year and had to have a quarter of his hoof cut away. I´d have been devastated if he´d been beaten today.

Bainne, missed the break as usual before staying on well down the wide outside. She can win races if she ever learns to hit the traps running.

SOFTLY SHE TREADS is at the top of her game and she showed a fine attitude in the closing stages to record back-to-back wins. She´ll have no problems going back up in trip and she may be capable of better.
QUOTES Trainer Pat Phelan: From Softly She Tread´s first run she has made us look silly being disappointing but she has come good and the visor seems to have made the difference. She has been tough and genuine today which we thought she was. It will be up to the owner if we come back again in the new year or wait for the turf next year but she has comea long way in a short time..

SUMMERSAULT looked more at home over 6f and should go on from here. He was green in the home straight, where he followed the hanging runner-up, but knuckled down well enough when straightened.
QUOTES Jamie Osborne, trainer of Summersault: I think he´s a horse who does have a future. He had a fractured pelvis as a 2yo, which is why he made a belated appearance on thetrack. There´s a chance we may put him away now and save him for the grass.
My comment:
Jamie Osborne
had it off here, he tried to play down the performance of the horse when interviewed by Simon Mapletoft…

GREATEST JOURNEY readily completed the hat-trick off 10lb higher than last time. He´s a much-improved horse since being gelded, stepped up in trip and switched to synthetic tracks.

STARFIELD hadn´t been at his best returned to Tapeta last time but registered a clear-cut success to maintain his unbeaten record on Fibresand and confirm himself a useful sort. He´ll be up in the weights for this but looks the type to hold his own in slightly better company.

PEARL RANSOM hadn´t run at 7f since his early days but the drop in trip wasn´t a problem. In fine form since a summer and autumn break, he´s a Polytrack specialist and is particularly effective here.
