STEVE ROGERS justified support and made a winning handicap debut for his new trainer. The longer trip promised to suit and ultimately he needed every yard of it. This ought to blow away any cobwebs and the handicapper can´t go mad, so there should be more to come.

BE ROYALE was 6lb higher than when winning at Wolverhampton last November, but she enjoyed the ideal sit behind duelling leaders. This is as well as she has ever run and, a 5yo who hasn´t been overraced, she could rate higher still when things fall similarly kindly. The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner. They noted the trainer´s explanation that the mare needed the run last time after a break.
QUOTES The strong pace helped Be Royale and also the switch back to Polytrack. She won with a bit in hand and could follow up – Robert Winston, jockey.

CARLANDA got the better of the argument and won for the first time since arriving from France. Second on a couple of occasions over 1m6f at this venue in the past, stamina is clearly her forte and she turned the tables on the runner-up in what was a much stronger-run race than that of their last meeting nine days previously. She should have more to offer.

COURSING, back down in trip under a penalty after getting off the mark in first-time blinkers at Wolverhampton 11 days earlier, was still officially 5lb well in. Always handy on the outside, it looked as though she might face a battle when coming under pressure turning in, but once sent to the front in the straight she bolted clear. Even after her rise she should take some stopping in the near future.

TEAJAYBE went close off 1lb higher over 2m here on Fibresand in April. He was reverting to the Flat returning from a seven-month break on his debut for the in-form Michael Appleby yard. Luke Morris switched his mount off in about fourth over this 2f shorter trip, and the combination came there cantering turning in. He took over without being asked a serious question over 2f out, and crossed the line a hard-held winner by a clear margin.

RP course notes:
A moderate handicap in which the winner proved in a different league.
THE WEE CHIEF, returning from another lengthy absence, looked as though he had only just joined in as he cruised up to the leaders coming to the last furlong and he was still on the bit when hitting the front. He does have a great record fresh and this was the lowest mark he´d ever raced off, though, while he did stick his head in the air with the race in the bag close home. There is no telling what he will do next time.

This looked competitive on paper, but the winner made every yard and the rest never got a look in.
PENSAX LAD, put up 4lb for his Lingfield win, broke well, had bagged the outright lead by the first turn and never saw another rival. He´s at the top of his game at the moment, is now 3-3 under Ben Curtis, and could well defy another rise. His trainer thinks he´ll keep improving with age.

ROCK CHARM, tongue-tied for the first time on this half-mile drop in trip, travelled well in behind the leaders and saw his race out strongly. There might be a bit more improvement in him now that connections know what he needs to show his best.

COME ON DAVE broke well and made every yard in the first-time eye-shields and blinkers combo. He came right away in the straight to win by five lengths, which won´t do his mark any good, but this track suits his style of running so expect him to return here in the coming weeks.
