No, Andy. The horse’s official name, the one with which it’s registered, is Authorized. Dave Jay thinks I’m a tosspot for pointing it out but there you go.

In normal contexts, perhaps, but the horse’s name is spelled the US way, therefore ‘Authorised’ is not the horse’s name just as surely as Ouija Bored isn’t the great mare we’ve known in resent seasons.
June 4, 2007 at 09:06 #63380First read of the forum since the derby, I assume EW has spat his dummy judging by the fact he’s deleted all his posts? EW, I think you need to calm down mate, if your going to give an opinion be prepared and magnanimous enough to respect the opinions of others.
I thought it was an awesome performance worthy of a champion and I think this year we have seen the best collection of Guineas/Oaks/Derby winners for a good few years.. I hope he goes on to win the Arc and carry all before him.. Didn;t see the french Derby but I haven;t seen another 3yo yet who will be able to cope with him over 1m 4f and I don’t think Rail Link will beat him giving him weight..
I thought Light Shift was a good winner on friday as well.. Dropped back in trip I think she’ll be just as effective as she has an awesome turn of foot.
I treated every person with an opposite view to my own with the utmost respect, however, as you can see from some of the replies, the same respect was no given to my opinions and this is why the posts have been removed
I have now become a lurker with no opinion and look forward to reading everyones thoughts, even those who seem to contribute feck all to the forum

June 4, 2007 at 11:34 #63382I think EW puts a lot of time and effort into what he does and doesn’t appreciate his views being rubbished by folk who don’t do the same. I can fully understand why he doesn’t bother .. I feel the same.
June 4, 2007 at 11:43 #63383EW,
Your posting is always interesting mate and I enjoy debating with you. You tone can sometimes be pretty condescending and petulant (Tone is often a very difficult thing to convey in the written word so people may misunderstand).. Which may be why you get a lot of rises against your posts (I can;t really comment on this thread because all your posts were deleted before I saw them, i’m just commenting generally).. However, normally what you say is well reasoned and I for one wouldn’t want you to stop posting.
Different viewpoints will serve to make us all better all round punters and students of the sport which is one of the main reasons I joined this site and continue to enjoy it.

PCH made a very valid and sensible point about horses becoming unbalanced around Epsom, one that has been echoed by a number of professionals since, and we can all benefit from such insights.
.. I don’t know what point you are making here, are you saying that I am just copying what someone else said and that I might not as well have said it because someone else said it and there’s no point in stating the obvious because some tipster or trainer has already said it?
My comments aren’t aimed at gossips or aftertimers, they were my conclussions a good while ago that I thought I might share with my fellow enthusiasts on the forum, regarding ratings and stats produced from the races run at Epsom on the Saturday of the meeting, which haven’t proved to be reliable in the past, due to unique nature of the course.

dj
Aren’t you being just a little precious here?
What I believe you’re saying is that Derby form is unreliable owing to the nature of the course?
All I’m saying in response is that good horses, travelling well within themselves, rarely become unbalanced on the course, and to suggest that Authorized was in any way fortunate, or that any of the field would have beaten him on a less idiosyncratic course, ignores the class gulf between him and his pursuers on Saturday.
Any other inference you may have drawn is entirely of your own manufacture.
Nah!
The horse’s owners can obviously be forgiven, being foreign, but that doesn’t mean we have to b*****d
is(z)e our own language?
Edited to say; Don’t know who gave me all those stars but they made a complete b*****ks
of my point!(Edited by reet hard at 4:52 pm on June 4, 2007)
June 4, 2007 at 16:21 #63389We also know in hindsight that HC was well worth that 130 rating. I say that Authorized beat nothing of note, but beat them very well. If HC was worth 130 in hindsight, then Authorized cannot possibly equal that, in foresight, by beating what he beat yesterday.
A very interesting and intelligent point.
Looking at HC’s career RP ratings, it seems odd that his highest rating was in the Derby, rather than for his 2 Breeders Cup victories or for the Irish Champion win.
Which would suggest that those in charge of RPR think that Authorized’s win on Saturday would put him at least 2lbs better than the fields of those 3 races.
It also puts him just 1lb behind Falbrav’s best ever performance.
And it’s rated 6lbs better Dalakhani’s imperious victory in the Jockey Club.
Now, if I had to rate those 4 horses at those stages of their careers i.e.
Authorized now
HC
Falbrav
Dalakhani just after the Jockey club
Authorized would probably be my 4th choice.
So, unless he improves further, I think he’ll have a hard time living up to this 130 rating.
Really good post, good way of looking at it.
June 4, 2007 at 16:48 #63390Dear maurice
anyone can mispell.
June 4, 2007 at 18:33 #63391I don’t think Authorize will achieve a better RPR rating than he did in the Derby.
He beat some very good horses easily in a very fast time and while he will surely win more races, he has won the one that matters as far as his trainer and connections are concerned. Wherever he goes next, the pressure is off and if he wins he is likely to do it cheekily rather than be ridden along from the 2f pole.
The Derby is a unique event in terms of prestige and it is often the peak of a horse’s achievements. We tend to remember the winner long after other races have faded from our memories. It is usually a fast time and that almost guarantees a high rating.
I hope I am proved wrong, but I just have that feeling.

Yes – and I do appreciate the irony of your remark – but this didn’t seem to me a matter of spelling; rather, it seemed a matter of one person’s decision to ignore the registered spelling of the name.
June 4, 2007 at 18:54 #63393Timeform have rated Authorized 132+. I am very surprised at this as they have had to raise Eagle Mountain and the 3rd and 4th considerably. This does seem a little over the top although I was very impressed by him and would have given him a very large "P" to any rating which through Eagle Mountain would be 126 or so.( the mark the official handicapper has given him)
Ah well – we all know handicapping is pretty subjective

It does not have to be anything like as subjective as some imagine (I realise that I am sounding like a scratched record). ÂÂÂ
