I think the 2 N.Henderson horses will be hard to beat in this. Zaynar is a tough horse and Walkon franked the Triumph Hurdle form when sluicing up at Aintree. The step up to 2m 4f should also help as he alloped all the way to the line at Cheltenham.
Sentry Duty is one of my favourite horses. He showed his talent as a novice when stuffing Celestial Halo. He goes very well fresh and won a handicap hurdle in impressive style on his reappearance last season, before following up in the Ladbroke off a hig weight. That was a great performance.
Mr Thriller would be a danger to all if he runs, but he could well have an alternative engagement in the Hattons Grace.
Katchit should improve for the step up in trip and should be thereabouts if he rediscovering his form of 2 seasons ago.
Of course, I think there wouldn’t be a dry eye at the track if Hardy Eustace were to win, and although its highly unlikely, I’m sure everybody will be cheering him on.

He won the Morgiana first up last season and stranger things have happened. He’s obviously ahowing something at home because Dessie said a few weeks ago that he’d retire him if he didn’t feel he could be competitive in these races. Maybe I’m just a sentimental fool but there might just be some value in him come Saturday morning.
November 17, 2009 at 21:01 #259160Im really looking forward to Karabak and Katchit running this weekend, shame that they had to run in the same race, but there isn’t really anywhere else to start Katchit off really.
Both of them look really good at home, and it wouldnt suprise me if Karabak finished infront of Katchit on Saturday.
Glad to see Straw Bear back over hurdles too, not a chaser, and i hated seeing him on the chase course.
November 17, 2009 at 21:21 #259169I’m looking forward to seeing Karabak on Saturday as well. Already had a few bob on for the Stayers Hurdle.
He looked made for staying trips in the Ballymore last season.
November 17, 2009 at 21:43 #259182I’m with you IC…I backed him for the Stayers immediately after the Ballymore..he looks a staying hurdler pure and simple with all the class required but without the scope for chasing. A career hurdler in other words…in my ideal scenario Big Bucks ends up in the Gold Cup this year.
November 17, 2009 at 22:01 #259190who’s going to ride zaynar?.
November 17, 2009 at 22:06 #259192who’s going to ride zaynar?.
Richie Killoran maybe? ? ?
November 17, 2009 at 22:11 #259195I think that at the minute much depends on a) the ground and b) whether Lough Derg runs or not, as he usually injects so much pace into his races. If it’s soft and Lough Derg does run then I’ll definitely be having a go on Time For Rupert (currently 25-1). I dont think we’ve seen the best of him yet and with conditions suitable I think he could put in a really good run here.

wtf?
November 18, 2009 at 08:47 #259218May have an ew on Wendel if he runs; according to Jumping Prospects he has strengthened up no end during the summer, is the pick of all of Charlie Manns horses, and has ran well at Ascot in the past. Likes g/s ground. Was supposed to be going novice chasing this season, so maybe the race is just a pipe opener, but 20/1 ew may be worth a risk. Hasten to add I know nothing about the horse other than what I’ve read in the book [also like the name!; wonder if he’s related to that horse Beowolf of a few seasons back?]

Sarcasm my friend.
November 18, 2009 at 11:30 #259251so who’s riding it then. simple enough question for a racing forum.
are you one of the seven dwarfs?.
November 18, 2009 at 15:51 #259299I’m assuming Andrerw Tinkler will be riding Sentry Duty, so that rules him out. Would McCoy be free to ride him?? You would think he’d be ideal for the horse.
November 18, 2009 at 16:34 #259309i very much doubt if JP McManus would let him off the 9/2 second favourite in favour of the 5/2 fav. and with katchit likely to run thornton’s going to be on that one, so AP’s going to be needed on karaback.
November 18, 2009 at 18:14 #259322Zaynar is a class act but with his penalty I think he’s vulnerable. Plus he’ll need to travel better than he sometimes does at a track like Ascot. You can get away with it at Newbury or Cheltenham to an extent but Ascot is not the kind of place you can afford to lose a bit of ground.
November 19, 2009 at 08:05 #259407Is Zaynar definitely running? I would have thought Henderson would send him for the 4yo hurdle race at haydock that he sent Binocular to last year, which he is also entered in on the same day. Less chance of him getting a hard race at haydock…
