Don’t think Waiting Patiently is a Cheltenham horse even if he gets his ground, personally. He seems to thrive on these flatter tracks.
February 17, 2018 at 16:05 #1342750No enquiry but I’ve only just had chance to see it back and surely someone had to have a word with Brian Hughes about that manoeuvre.
February 17, 2018 at 16:09 #1342751Well done Brian Hughes for a ride that suited his horse’s name, and CC for making it a great race.
February 17, 2018 at 16:11 #1342752Shame Hughes felt the need to cut to the rail so aggressively and stop Cue Card in his tracks. Diluted the battle at the end, which would have been great to see and would have seen him win anyway.
Great to see Cue Card go well, I don’t think he quite has it in him at 12 to win at Cheltenham, he’s always going to be flagging at the end, but I’ve always fancied him as more of a 2 1/2 mile horse, it just always surprises me when he goes well over further, so maybe one final spin in the Ryanair may bring the best out of him, he clearly still travels well.

He won comfortably at Carlisle which has plenty of ups and downs, not unlike Cheltenham in some way, Sedgefield isn’t flat, nor Newcastle or for that matter Ascot. On the evidence of 7 wins and 2 seconds from 9 races he handles pretty much any track that he’s presented with.
February 17, 2018 at 16:35 #1342760Interesting that Brian Hughes said the ground was quick enough even though it was soft.
Wonder if we ever see the horse at Cheltenham.February 17, 2018 at 16:36 #1342761Can only echo what’s been said already! Brilliant race and tremendous performances from the front two…weight of my money seemed to weigh down Top Notch who I was never happy with from some way out!
Really hope we get to see Waiting Patiently run at Cheltenham, would be a crying shame if he didn’t go there…up the North!
February 17, 2018 at 16:37 #1342762Great race and well done to the winner and also to Cue Card!
I just wonder, if they had to take on Speredek for the lead, In my opinion it could have been a lot closer in the end.
Nonetheless it was by far the fastest race on the card and Cue Card jumped a lot better than he did earlier in the season. You still have to be highly impressed with Waiting Patiently who still seems to have a some improvement left in him.
February 17, 2018 at 16:38 #1342763Brilliant race. The winner is a lovely horse and it’s not the end of the world if it never wins at Cheltenham.
King George looks ideal.
February 17, 2018 at 16:56 #1342770I am wondering whether the ground is quiet so essential for waiting patiently as many are assuming. Not able to look back on form yet and need to look closer but he doesn’t completely strike me as a heavy ground slogger inhis action. I also think he’s got real improvement in him. It’s come quite easy to him so far
As for cue card I was there when he won that bumper. It nut just seems like ages ago but was ages ago. Tizzard has taken some knocking lately but he was spot on here (as he was about stepping him up to three miles which got a huge amount of abuse online in certain areas ) and his handling of CC has been superb
February 17, 2018 at 17:00 #1342771I agree with steeplechasing. I would not rule out anything for this horse. At kempton it was a bit “wtf?” With the way he oozed class
Coney Island couldn’t jump a fag packet

Wonder if we ever see the horse at Cheltenham.I thought they were flying, I thought Cue Card would be pulled up 3 out the pace he was going at times… but that was after watching the GN trial at Haydock, where they looked like they were swimming through treacle.
Looking back at the end of the race, I’m surprised there wasn’t an enquiry, I was sure Waiting Patiently had it in the bag first time I watched it, but with the KG finish with Vautour still in the memory, I don’t think it was a completely done deal, he wasn’t going away at the line and Cue Card is very capable of digging in and winning a head bob.
February 17, 2018 at 17:24 #1342780The stewards did look at it but said no riding offence was committed and it didn’t improve Waiting Patiently ‘s finishing position, which I fully agree with!

Such a ‘Northern’ attitude. Losing count of all the good horses they’ve saved for some silly little race at Aintree, who then gets injured and goes through a career without winning anything worthwhile.
February 17, 2018 at 17:38 #1342784That race was the perfect result for Malcolm and the old legend Cue Card.
I’d love it if Ruth went to Aintree instead of Cheltenham, imagine Waiting Patiently and Altior in the Melling

Don’t say that! Just think of Tindari, Dato Star, Cape Tribulation. He knew how to place them at Cheltenham and he got rewarded for that.
I think she is just a bit cautious about bigger fields, a faster pace and a turning track with it’s stiff uphill finish.
